300.I think it was reallly good.

Zodiac - Very good. Even though it's 2.5+ hours, you never feel it. Fincher's best movie in a long, long time.

i was about to pop that in a while ago but my friend said it sucked.
decent amounts of gore?

the_real_linda 03-11-2007 03:09 PM

my new best friend, i found it weird that mia kirshner and eric mabius wer both in crow films and then the dude who was originally meant to play tim in the l word was in my new besrt friend with her, and how she played the parody character of katherine from cruel intentions in not another teen movie and then played the same character in my new best friend for serious....yep i like films

I wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be. It wasn't that memorable or anything at all, it was extremely repetitive, and I thought the acting was horrible. The only thing that was amazing was the visuals, especially the millions of arrows. The fighting was gory enough, but repetitive. Nothing new ever happened.... And..... the plot sorta turned into mush..... Bleh, it was OK, nothing more.

6/10

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

It makes me want to cry at the end! It's always so sad! best of the 3!

Man of the Year

I read a lot of reviews that slammed this film for not making more of a political statement but that's actually one of the reasons I liked it. Now if it just got rid of the secondary storyline that pulled it through the unnecessary "suspense" territory it would have been better.

High Fidelity

I haven't watched this one in a while and wasn't anxious to because I figured I had enjoyed it so much in the past because my life was in a similar place. I was wrong. Still a damn good movie.

i didnt like the suspence/thriller part of Man of the Year either. i love the rant he goes on in the debate.

Fast Food Nation(2006) Dir. Richard Linklater.

been looking forward to this since the trailer i first seen few months back. not reading anytiihing about this, except Linklatter i thought this was going to be a straight up comedy. i was wrong. its more of a day-to-day of people who are in one way or another employed by a fast food restaurant called Mickeys. The movie takes place between 3 seperate groups of people. one is a bunch of illegal mexicans just hopping the border start working at a slaughterhouse that provides meat for Mickeys, the other a teenage girl who is a hostess at a Mickey's and the other is a president of marketing of Mickey's corporation.

7/10 - worth checking out. its got a gruesome ending which alll meatlovers will love.

The Aviator

I dont care what anyone says, DiCaprio is incredible in this film and as far as I'm concerned its right up there with Scorsese's best work.

Lord of the Rings 2---- 8/10

LOTR 3------ 9.5/10 (It's way too freaking emotional... Not that its a bad thing, but it's almost unbearable)

The Mummy Returns 9/10

Brazil

it was alright. dragged on for too long, Deniro didnt have big enough of a part, and it made absolutely NO sense. porbably wasnt supposed to. As a movie that made no sense, I'd say Naked Lunch was better.

amazing visuals in this one though.

Did you watch the Criterion version? The "final final" directors cut was better I thought. One film that I feel gets better with every watching.

yes it was criterion. was i supposed to understand this movie or not?

Unaboner3000 03-12-2007 07:27 PM

Heartbreak Ridge

I never get tired of seeing this film. Clint Eastwood at his best.

Mario Van Peebles: "You know what's 12 in. long and white? NOTHING!"

Clint: "I'll tell you what's black and bleeding if it don't shut its face."

:D

I think there were parts of the movie that came together to express certain things. I loved the vision of the future, instead of everything being perfect and clean there's still all sorts of problems and the government... heh, the a/c stuff was priceless. The dream sequences are the only things that really don't fit into the "story" I think... but hey you could even look at it as just a love story. :)

I love the ambiguity and dream-like state of the film with the amazing visiuals and odd story. Like I said, watch it a couple more times (I know it's long but when you're bored and don't know what to watch heh) and see if it's any better.

The Mothman 03-12-2007 08:42 PM

visuals were definetly a very high point. I think if i watch it again il try not to understand it too hard. Thats what I did with Naked Lunch. thats the type of movie you're not supposed to undestand. you ever seen that one btw?

Sick_As_Fuck 03-12-2007 08:44 PM

Poseidon [2006]
Mehness. Nothing more.

Stay Alive [2006]
I thought it had a few good parts but overall it sucked.

Yeah, pretty good, I have to watch it again though because the first time I was dissapointed. I think I was expecting a movie based on the book, but Rashomon seemed more akin to the novel while Naked Lunch was just a trip heh.

You know, I can't mention Brazil without at least one saying "face stretching".

oh yeah. that was fucking pricless. after that the guy just slammed some saran wrap around her face. tons of funny amusing scenes in that film. shoe hat had me laughin. Like the shit being pumped into the suits too.

anyways, you should definetly re-watch naked lunch. I didnt like it that much the first time either, but you gotta throw out all expectaitons before you do and just watch it. dont think about it. just watch.

Scrapbook

What a let-down, I was looking for some gore laden fun, I'm an hour or so into it and am bored as hell.

How dissapointing... the only part I really liked were the cring inducing foot stabs.

Started watching "The Sentinel" (Hey...wasn't that the name of a tv series a 'lil while ago?)
Thus far, not altogether impressed...but I'm only a half hour in...I'll continue, but it's not looking GREAT at this point.

Probably gonna watch "Fearless" tonight, first time.

the_real_linda 03-13-2007 04:58 AM

Unless fearless turns out to be bad, and REALLY bad...the whole seeing that instead of ultraviolet thing, probably a really good stroke of luck for you.

Pan's Labyrinth. 09/10

I remember posting the trailer of this movie about 8-9 months back in the Trailer Discussion thread, and I thought the movie had looked promising a lot...and I was right.

How so!

A great movie if I ever saw in recent times. Del Toro's finest work yet. Its worth the 3 Academy Awards it got for Art Direction, Cinematography and Make-up. I am adding its DVD to my shelf as soon as I can. Highly recommended for anyone looking to spend 2 hours of total entertainment.
