cutthroat island ..

horrible movie.

american actors cannot make 'old world' dialogue work .. they just cant do it.

Had its moments. Went a little overboard in places with the whole self-referential/intentionally chessy sthick, but it could have been worse.

Schramm

one of the most fucked up movies i have ever seen. creates good atmosphere, but too fucked up for my liking.

Children of Men (2007)

The best movie I've seen in a damn long time. Brilliant filmmaking.

Many people bash it for taking the franchise to the extreme edge. I think they tried to give it a different twist from the other disappointing sequels before. For a horror movie, it was pretty decent viewing. For being a sequel...well...it isnt another Aliens, thats for sure.

Despare 01-06-2007 09:53 PM

Watching Cobra right now.

Omen III: The Final Conflict. 06/10

No use making any sort of comparison with the other two before, simply because this one runs on a slightly different track. Damien's 32, while in the other two he wasnt even 18.
Its different from the book, obviously, and is loaded with plenty of dramatic moments like (**SPOILERS**) the original British Ambassador planning his own dramatic suicide, Damien talking to Jesus's statue from behind etc. The deaths are nicely done, and one particular death is totally grotesque and revolting.
Sam Neill does a decent job, although he doesnt look as menacing as he should be. Direction is OK, atmosphere is tolerable, and the script has its slow moments, but picks up in the latter half. Not a fitting end to such a strong character of Damien Thorn by any stretch of the imagination, but a nice curtain to his cinematic personality. A decent watch, IMO.

Evil Aliens

great fun .. unless for some unfathomable reason you cant deal with humor in your horror movies (i'll never understand those people personally)

very similar in style and subject to Jackson's Brain Dead

Hadn't seen it in forever. It plays almost like a spaghetti western with long, silent shots of the countryside. Really cool, really odd. You can totally see the genesis of Elle Driver in the protagonist, Friga. 7/10

Those of you not into porn, beware - the version of this film called "A Cruel Picture" has hardcore in it. The one I listed still has plsnty of nudity, but the porn is gone...and the movie is paced waaaay better in the edit.

SPOILER WARNING

Man you must be hard to please! The Second Coming of Chirst wasnt enough for you?:p. Haha, I thought it was a great ending:

"Nazarene, you win...nothing"

Definatly my favourite of the sequels...nowhere near the original but head and shoulders above Damien: Omen II. Omen IV: Awakening was just plain weak...

Yeah, me too. I saw a behind the scenes thing at the theater last night and remembered how much I enjoyed the last two. Solid superhero movies full of action and, something most can't portray, strong emotion.

This one looks really good.

urgeok 01-07-2007 06:26 PM

yeah i cant wait.

funny going back to #1 and seeing how much the CGI improved by #2

still a great flick though.

In my opinion, when one dagger of Meggido in his back did the trick, what was the Second Coming of any use anyway, cept other than making him "weak"?:p The Second Coming didnt help the other 6 monks, did it?;)
Anyway, if he was really as powerful as shown in the original, he should be at the peak of his powers when he's in his early 30s. Hence I felt it was a little bleak. Of course, its slightly better than Omen II. That I agree.
