Aliens....

slayer666 12-28-2006 07:57 AM

The Descent...unfortunately. What a stinker that turned out to be.

Phalanx 12-28-2006 08:33 AM

People sure seem to split down the middle re: "the descent".
Didn't look that great to me...kind've like a ripjob of pitch black with a different setting, but hey, I'm sure I'll at least give it a watch sometime within the next year.

Just watched Burtons BATMAN. Still like this one most of all. Best batman, best suit, best music/score, best car, best villain (all iMo of course)...Whoever gets the Joker part (even the seemingly ridiculously unsuitable heath ledger) in the next sequel in the batman begins line, has a lot to live up to...

The_Return 12-28-2006 08:37 AM

I think Ledger should be able to pull it off...have you seen the photoshopped pic of him that's been floating around? He can definatly look the part...and as far as fitting the darker atmosphere that Nolan used in Begins, I think he'll be a good choice to keep the character more serious. Crazy as fuck but grounded to some extent...I think he'll pull it off.

Phalanx 12-28-2006 08:42 AM

I won't judge fully until I see it...but still, IMO Nicholson made for THE best comic based film villain portrayal yet. I personally thought that the rumours of Adrien Brody were kinda promising, I can see him pulling off the look better, but hey...the first one was alright, so I'll watch the second either way.

Agreed that Nicholson was incredible in the role...Ledger will certainly be alot different, but I think it will be a good take on the character.

I cant find the fan poster that I mentioned with Ledger, but as soon as I find it I'll post it for you. Really shows that if nothing else, Ledger can easily look the part.

Saw. (4th time)

I never get tired of watching this one. Anyone bashing The Descent and saying they adored Saw, needs to get their brains checked.

I take both movies' names in the same breath because both of em have a lot of similarities and share the same edgy, tense, taut, claustrophobic atmospheric feel.

Revenge of the creature.

crabapple 12-28-2006 01:13 PM

Revenge of the Creature. Now that's a sequel I really enjoyed!

Phalanx 12-28-2006 01:57 PM

Agreed return...looks like he could get the look down, and I think he's an alright actor in general, but...I dunno if this ones beyond him or not. The jokers gotta be sinister/crazy all the way. I think that where Nicholson played him extremely well, there's a lot more darkness that could be thrown onto the character, he's an absolute brutal, psycho bastard...I'd like to see Nolan take that one to another level.
Still, I think Adrien Brody could pull off the LOOK even better, and absolutely look like the Joker is supposed to, without much effort, he's got the slimness, the long face, the sharp nose kinda thing...apparently he put his name foward to play the role, but I dunno...is the Ledger thing confirmed yet?

Im not 100% sure if it's confirmed, but every site that Ive looked at seems to say so...Im assuming that it is.

I Brody would look the part alot better than Ledger for sure (Hell, he even looks the part without makeup), but beyond that I cant see him doing very well. He's a talented actor but I just cant see him i this kind of role. Even though I havent seen him in very much, it doesnt seem like Ledger would have to strain too hard to pull of the whole psycho bit.

Anyway, we'll see in '08. Really, I'm just excited that my favourite villain is getting back on screen:D

alien apocalypse

My Summer Story -

i had this on laserdisc .. bought it in a batch of others - without even knowing it was a sequel to A Christmas Story.

it was made by the same director (bob Clark) featured the same score as A christmas Story . same teacher... but everyone else was different.
(including a horrible piece of miscasting - Charles Grodin as the dad)

it was a bit uneven but still won out in the end.

evilreign 12-28-2006 04:14 PM

full metal jacket, amazing movie

Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter

Really entertaining:). Great cast - Even though he never lasts too long, it's always nice to see Ian Hendry.

i'm glad i didnt pay money to watch M. Night Shyamalan thumbing his nose at the audience.

what an arrogant prick.

Martin

Wasn't all it's cracked up to be. Martin was a great character trapped in a sub-par film IMO.

Posher778 12-28-2006 06:25 PM

Feast

I watched this with my girlfriend and her relatives, and, it was... interesting. I guess for a random story and zero budget it was ...ok. The gore was supreme, the jumps were usually perfect, but everything else lacked. I enjoyed the *spoiler* Heroines dying and the heroines changing in comical ways with the headlines and all*spoiler end* that was funny. The acting was dumb, but, whatever. The dialogue was unfathomably bad, and the creatures were stupid and did stupid things. It was one of those, i'm bored so lets watch a dumb movie.. movie. Maybe worth a rent if you are extremely bored, but, meh.

5/10

Yeah, I'm getting tired of his same old style...Loved unbreakable though, but the rest, really not all that great. His whole "twist at the end" bit just got annoying after unbreakable.

Saw like a few minutes towards the end of "altered states", wow...what a weird looking movie...gotta get that sometime.

Well worth seeing. really cool movie. Might be different where you are, but over here you can get the DVD dirt cheap (Got mine at Futureshop - 2 for $5)

Phalanx 12-28-2006 07:44 PM

Should be pretty cheap, looked relatively old, I'll look around.

Pan's Labyrinth...with Doug Jones signing autographs and doing a Q&A

9/10 Fucking beautiful film!!!

Phalanx 12-29-2006 01:14 AM

Batman Returns...not bad...I don't think any of the three sequels really lived up to the first one, but I had no huge problem with this one, far better than the two to follow...but yeah, IMO the beggining of the decline.

unbreakable was a brave film .. it broke a few molds and did it with style - i live that film.

lady in the water was just a big arrogant go fuck yourself to the audience.

***********Spoilers ********* as if anyone cares *******************

killing the critic ... i can see why he would hate critics ... at least uwe boll had the balls to fight them in person.
telling the audience ahead of time everything that would happen ... a bigger cameo - key roll...

i did like the concept of the people working together, i liked the idea of mistakes being made.. i could even go with the whole fairy tale deal ..
Paul Giamatti was brilliant (the howard girl was kept passible by denying her dialogue)
its just his presentation .. it was so fucking smug.

Once?! thats like saying the ocean is a little wet.

We watched a movie called Last Exit about 2 women, one having the worst day of her life and the other having just a generally bad day. It involves a lot of asshole driving, and eventually a car chase and gunshot. All in all, it was pretty good (for a lifetime movie), but the end was one of those unfulfilling, unresolved "realistic" endings where everyone gets hurt and no real questions are answered.

The_Return 12-29-2006 10:56 AM

The Thing, with Commentary

Couldnt get through the whole thing...as much as I love his work, Carpenter is just not an interesting guy to listen to. Really informative but boring at the sane time, if that makes any sence. Kurt Russell was somewhat entertaining I guess.
