Not classic, next time post that in "Modern".

The Omen (2006) - I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I think it was pointless to remake the original, but they did a pretty decent job.

An American Haunting - I had heard nothing but bad things about this one, but I really liked it. The only things I didn't much care for were the modern-day storyline that bookends the movie and the "why did they have to go there?" twist. I don't know much about the true events of The Bell Witch so maybe there's something to it, but I thought that was a weak cop-out.

The Omen series seems to be quite a popular choice lately.

Omen III: The Final Conflict

Pretty good. Nowhere near as awesome as the first, but a bit better tha #2. Sam Neill did an amazing job...I still say this guy needs to do more horror. One thing that bugged me though:

**Spoilers**

The ending. It was a pretty good way to end it, but it just made Damien seem like a complete moron. He can recite like half the bible from memory, yet he didnt know that passage that comes on screen at the end? About Christ returning "not as a child, but now as King of Kings". Cool ending, but that parts was pretty dumb IMO.

Phalanx 11-04-2006 09:43 AM

Devils Rejects.
First time I'd seen it.
I didn't like HO1KC much at all...so I was pretty apprehensive about this "sequel", but hey, it was on weekly hire, and I'd heard it was somewhat better than the first (IMO - Not as though that would be too hard) from a few people.
While I found it more watchable than the first one, I still found the characters stupid, annoying, and over the top. The "rescue" I saw coming a mile off.
Overall not bad, at least this one made me laugh a few times...but, wasn't overly impressed by either of these films.

All the Die Hard movies are great:)

zombie honeymoon, fragile and pan's labyrinth.

the last two were very beautifully done movies and highly recommended. i know pan's labyrinth may still not be out over there, but fragile is on dvd.

Just saw "This Film is not Yet Rated" last night. It's a documentary about the MPAA film ratings process. Definitely interesting, and sheds some needed light on the uber-secretive ratings board, though it has some weak points.

Still, this movie would probably interest a lot of horror fans, since horror tends to get treated a bit unevenly in ratings.

I personally hated the second one...the third one more than adequetly made up for it though.

I just saw "Fun With Dick & Jane" last night, and must I say that it wasn't funny, except for a couple of minor parts. Though it isn't Horror, I just felt like telling you all.

Rating: 4.0/10

PhilnEdee 11-04-2006 12:04 PM

American Haunting - unrated....really a big dissappointment there. If you loved it, great, not trying to be difficult, but I really thought it was poorly acted on top of boring crap.:(

very fun movie .. a little too flashy because of the american influence i suspect - but still a lot of fun - top notch voice work.

Kind of pisses me off that I saw it used on DVD at Blockbuster for around $10, but I passed on it because I'd never heared anything about it:(. Wish I would have known Sam Neill was in it, would have snatched it up anyway...

it was pribably the shortened american release - if you want to console yourself that way.
i have the japanese import - its over 30 min longer.

i could be wrong about which one you saw - but probably not ..

phantomstranger 11-05-2006 12:31 AM

"The Horse Soldiers"- John Wayne
"Backlash"-Richard Widmark
"For A Few Dollars More-" Clint Eastwood
"Death Rides A Horse"- Lee Van Cleef
" High Plains Drifter"- Clint Eastwood

the BEST ghost flick ever.

shortened releases are sometimes better, Creepers is a way better cut than Phenomena. Funny how he's said he hates actors in a few interviews.... actors must hate him for his horrible dialogue direction.

doesnt hold a candle to Hardware (few movies do)- but still a good movie.

Phalanx 11-05-2006 07:16 AM

Hardware? Is that the futuristic one where a terminator type robot put itself back together? I can't really remember it, butI do remember liking it....came out at roughly the same time as freejack and circuitry man, no? Other decent looking scifi films I cant remember...
Whats this latest one to do with hardware?
