MALICIOUS (1995). Extremely pedestrian flick of a guy on the outs with his girlfriend (Oddly, enough she doesn't want to be intimate in the library) who meets a Bad Girl at a party-Dressed in Black, High Heels (Shown constantly), endlessly smoking-who engages him in wild sex in the Front seat of her car and on a yacht (Topless scene here). Guy gets back together with his girlfriend, but the Bad Girl is not going to take being dumped lightly....
On its own terms, not a bad flick, but MUCH lifted from FATAL ATTRACTION and by the finale, almost a plagiarism of PLAY MISTY FOR ME. I think the creators of SWIM FAN may have seen this as they used the basic plot device involving school sports. John Vernon plays another Cop, but actually halfway likable.
The main reason I checked this out (and You should as well) is the Bad Girl is played by Molly Ringwald::shocked::::shocked::, who was so likable in all her John Hughes films and maybe figured Nudity might get her more adult roles. **1/2

MONSTERS 2010

A photographer tries to get his boss's daughter safely back to the states after a yearly reoccurring alien invasion.

I really liked it.

The first 2 FEAR STREET movies on Netflix. Where the hell are these kid's parents?

realdealblues 07-14-2021 08:46 AM

I watched Fear Street 1994 and 1978 last weekend. I thought they were both enjoyable for what they were. Overlooking the missing parents issue previously mentioned as being a bit of a stretch, I'm still looking forward to seeing the final installment this weekend.

A bit of a surprise this, actually a decent anthology, reminded me a lot of V/H/S trilogy. If you like those you will like this also, ignore the score on IMDB.

I didn't like VHS but I still want to find a good anthology. I never heard of The Dark Tapes so I'll add it for a watch one day.

If you didn't like VHS you would probably not like this also. Has a sequel vibe all over it.

4.7 is not all that bad for IMDB standards. At least not for horror. I've seen good horrors only get a five as well.

Trashy horror often only gets like 3 or even a 2.

I didn't like VHS because it felt crude against women with the opening harassment scene and almost rape scene in the next segment. I reviewed it around here somewhere.

THE BOY (2016). This has an odd premise and You may be tempted to check out early, but stick with it. Good performance by Lauren Cohan (THE WALKING DEAD, SUPERNATURAL) and film is very Lewton-esque with a quite unsavory plot device. ***

Speaking of odd: A film set in Britain with a British lead... doing an American accent.::big grin::

Okay, that’s a surprisingly high ranking considering the story sounds like crap.

Fear Street: Del 1: 1994 5/10

I'll let this IMDB review speak for me, because I'm lazy.

"It takes less than twenty minutes for this movie to rattle off every millennial's basic childhood pop rock playlist. I'm not kidding-in twenty minutes I counted eight 90s songs used. Eight songs in twenty minutes, meaning the film will transition from playing Cypress Hill to Radiohead with as little rhyme or reason as someone just flicking through radio stations. This isn't nostalgia; it's cheap, it's cynical, and it's irritating, especially when it's the only thing the film gets even remotely right about the time period it's meant to take place in. Top it off with some seriously unlikable characters and it all makes for a film that felt like a rough 100 something minutes to sit through."

Started on the second one and decided very early on this just isn't my cup of diarreha and moved on to something else. That else would be..

America: The Motion Picture 5/10

The creators was on drugs when they came up with this shit, right?

Had no idea about the background and history of this movie, even if I've seen my shares of found footage.
Like it, I think I would have enjoyed it even more If I would have seen it early.

If the story had been executed better this could've been a cult classic such as 30 Days of Night, From Dusk Till Dawn and Demon Knight. The makeup effects were pretty cool.
