Yeah, that's one of my favorites, too. I'll have to look for this one.

EDIT: Found it on Tubi. I'll watch sometime between tonight and Sunday.

Voyagers 6-7/10

Lord of the Flies in space.

It was good up until the 50 minutes mark, then it turned a bit implausible. But an entertaining watch nevertheless.

Army Of The Dead
I wasn't expecting much and that's kind of what I felt like I got. Nothing really new to add to the genre. I called everything in the storyline before it happened. It didn't feel like a total waste of time but I wasn't entertained the entire film either so maybe a 5/10 or simply put, it was "Ok".

Great White 6/10

Your standard non-cheesy shark flick.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I would say. I wasn't expecting much. I did a party watch with it. No surprises in this. But it was mildly entertaining.

Suspiria (2018)

Finally got around to watching this one. I have been hesitant just because of my love of the original but I finally talked myself into watching it. I predicted the ending after the first time Susie started dancing for the leading role in front of Mother Blanc which was fine. Makeup effects were enjoyable and kudos to Tilda Swinton for playing 2 main parts, as well as a minor 3rd part in the reveal of Mother Markos during the ending. I didn't know she was playing the extra parts until looking up the film on Wikipedia. I feel I know what the director was going for but I think he ultimately fell short of creating a masterwork. I understand the setting and the events of 1977 in Germany but ultimately it seemed to confuse and slow down the plot in a way that didn't feel necessary. I enjoyed that there was more focus on the actual dancing in the school than the original film and how it worked into some of the other scenes. It was really a slow pot boiler which was fine with me. It in some ways reminded me of "The Witch (2015)" that I watched a few months ago as far as the tempo aspect but not as well complete as a whole vision. In the end I guess I would probably give it a 6/10. Maybe a 7/10 if I was feeling generous as some of the performances were really strong but I can't overlook what I feel were some of the other flaws that could have been done differently to make the film just a touch more cohesive and enjoyable in my book.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do 6/10

The horror movie I've been looking forward to the most since the beginning of last year and of course it couldn't live of to my slight expectations.

The story was confusing but not very interesting, the lighting was too dark (probably to hide the fact that the budget was too small for decent sets) and the scares so damn unoriginal.

If we gonna see a 4th installment, which I highly doubt now, I hope they skip the "based on a true story" part and have the Warrens investigate the Overlook Hotel next.

Brimstone Incorporated 6/10

This horror anthology looked like a film school project, BUT the first story about a date from hell was delightfully loony. Sadly it went downhill from there.
I will say though that the actors in generel did a decent job (except for the waitress) and the gore effects were quite good. I just wish the actor playing the sleazy host had delivered his lines in a slower pace, because I didn't catch half of what he was saying, but I'm sure it was funny.

I might look up the directors other movie "Her Name was Christa" which includes the exact same crew.

Dead Body was a fun ride. At first sight, it looked like a predictable piece of trash, but imo it used it's red herrings pretty well. Making it an enjoyable watch.

Too bad the new Conjuring didn't impress you. I'm hoping I'll like it a lot.

So what'd ya think? My mom was checking out the original Quit Place the other night, and she was not digging it. Gave up on it. Too slow for her.

Tommy Jarvis 06-06-2021 04:04 AM

The Poughkeepsie Tapes was horror in its purest form. It's been a while since a horror flick was this disturbing.

SerialKiller 06-06-2021 08:55 AM

Thirteen Ghosts. I have a love hate relationship with this movie. Waiting to hear back from Bama to see if A Quiet Place 2 is worth watching.

I think it is the worst of the trilogy, but still good.
Had no idea about the case. Is there any good documentary about it? Maybe even on Netflix?

Saw it, was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Had a Grave Encounters vibe on it in the first part, but

Maybe the language barrier and the poor subtitles, but I didn't understand who was the nurse and also the girl?

Also, is this a sequel to: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356176/ ?

Yeah the subtitles weren't great. I think the nurse was one of his experiments with that bird beak sewn into her head. I think the little girl must have been their daughter. He seemed to have a fascination with giving people animal abilities by experimenting with their eyes etc.
I think the movie you found is a sequel . I'd like to check it out.

Might be the first one actually and the Asylum the sequel.
On IMDB the Asylum is Villmark 2.

The Paper Boy (1994) 7/10

Very well acted by the boy. Ironically, one of the few things he’s been in is Goosebumps, which is synonymous with bad acting.

It’s on Youtube.

Tommy Jarvis 06-11-2021 01:31 PM

The Woods followed pretty much all the beats from the template set by The Blair Witch. Good to have seen it, but nothing truly memorable. And the proposal bit felt tacked on and unnecessary.

Curious about the setting, though. It's supposedly set in Northern Oregon (and the shots in the beginning kind of look like they double for Portland), but according to the imdb-page, it's filmed in British Columbia. Only a 3,5 hour drive up from Seattle, so not that far across the border. Regardless, it makes for a lot of beautiful forest shots and that's always a plus in my book.

Blood Punch - A horror-ish Groundhog Day, just lamer. And it had a discount David Arquette as a meth dealer.

Heather (from the original)'s brother goes back to the woods to search for her 20 years later.

Thought it was pretty stupid.

classic_horror_fan 06-13-2021 02:55 PM

I got to see a few newer comedy horror films this past week. I got to see Full Moon's new comedy horror called "Weed-gies," which is about similar creatures to the classic ghoulies with similar humor that's meant to be stupid but funny, and it is funny and entertaining in that sort of way. Those into the Ghoulies series should get a kick out of that one as well. Another is "Channel 13," a comedy horror anthology that is also meant to be stupid but funny, also entertaining in that sort of way. Another is a spin-off on Scooby-Doo with a Great Dane, similar mystery solving gang that rides around in a van, called "Saturday Morning Mystery," only this one is actually more scary than funny, but it does keep interest, and they did overall a good job with it. ::devil::
