S. Darko 2/10

Wow. That was awful.

cheebacheeba 04-05-2021 08:32 PM

So I hear.
Was it the same guy directing again? Because I saw some other movie he did. Pretty dire.

I’m pretty sure S Darko is a fan made movie. That was the vibe I got from it.

It had a lot of weird characters. But no, not really. The movie had a rather deep story and took itself very seriously. It felt like a movie that would have worked better as a tv show as the story had potential to go on and on and on and... Oh man..

That image looks like it's from another kind of movie.

I watched Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) back on April 1st.

It was pretty much what I expected. I found it enjoyable but I'm not watching for storyline as much as I am the big guys going at it. On a writing level, I felt the whole hollow earth storyline was a bit over the top. I know Kong wouldn't have found his Axe and without it, but I would have been content with Millie Bobbie Brown storyline although with the addition of maybe a couple other characters spending more time trying to find out what was making Godzilla attack "humans". The Mechagodzilla storyline seemed rushed, but in the end, it is what it is.

The Island 6/10

Good until it went full-on Michael Bay with non-stop action and noise.

I'll just stick with Logans Run.
Once was enough with the Island.

I was thinking of that movie too.

Next 7/10

Such a weird ending for this kind of movie. It’s like a superhero flick where they stop the movie right before the last half hour of climactic ending. Probably ran out of money. The movie needed to be an hour longer.

Yep, I share your thoughts on this. I thought Kong wielding an ax, and having a chair/throne in the hollow earth (and I guess it was a 'Kong community'), was a bit over-the-top, something I wasn't really comfortable with... Even though the Godzilla films of the past do give the giant monsters more human-level intelligence from time to time, it's been inconsistent, where they seem to have human-level intelligence in one thing, but not for most other things.

The Meca-godzilla ending did seem a bit rushed.

I really liked the Island. I don't remember the action ending very well, but I do recall a chase scene, but it definitely didn't bother me.

Yeah, I never had the desire to watch The Island again, but wouldn't turn down watching it with someone else. It's similar to Logan, THX and many others, but being raised a clone for harvesting your organs was a new twist.

Really liked Next too. I don't recall the ending. But I no doubt wished they had done so much more with the concept.

The Levenger Tapes adds a nice twist to the found footage genre. What happened? Who made it? It keeps you interested and that's to their credit. Acting is not superior quality, but decent by FF standards.

Worth a watch.

Violation 2/10

The only thing you will remember from this snoozefest is a 20 seconds look at an erect cock. So if that's what you would like to see in a movie then THIS is the MOVIE for YOU!

Tommy Jarvis 04-10-2021 01:23 PM

Escape Room seemed appealing, but ten minutes in, it looked pretty lame. So I turned it off.

I guess that's one thing streaming services have up on videostores. Once you rented something, you feel more compelled to finish it.

cheebacheeba 04-10-2021 04:31 PM

Which escape room was it?
There's 2 called the same thing, right?

The Kid Detective (2020)
7/10

"A once-celebrated kid detective, now 31, continues to solve the same trivial mysteries between hangovers and bouts of self-pity. But a naive client brings him his first adult case -- to find out who brutally murdered her boyfriend."

Entertaining Mystery-comedy film, awash with organic humor. It's not a great mystery, and not terrifically thrilling or suspenseful, but still enjoyable.

Next is one of those movies where I remember hating the ending and feeling cheated. There is a horror movie with a similar twist I recall reviewing around here with one of The Descent actresses. The context in that one was better I think.

I remember reviewing this one. It wasn't better than Cube to me but it was kind of passable I think. At least I wanted to see the sequel. I thought the ice trap was the best one.

Do you have a website for the location we can check out? I've never been to one but I like the concept. I never thought Cube type places were real until I saw Escape Room.

Entertaining film, fresh with organic humor though not especially situational humor. Not an easy film to genre-ize, but I would call it a mystery-com. It's not very funny, not a great mystery, not a thriller and not suspenseful. Likeable characters but not to the extent of investing in the stakes. The ending reveal was rather brief and not as exciting as it should have been, not totally satisfying.

I thougt it was hilarious.
Clue wise I believe the viewer don’t have a chance guessing. And yes, the ending could have been more climactic and suspenseful. But i really liked the story and most of all the main character/actor.
