Pissed Jeans took awhile to grow on me but I quite like 'em these days. I really need to replace the MP3s I've got with some nice shiny records :D

Yeah, totally. I was the same way. I really dig them now, though. This is the only record of theirs that I actually have on vinyl. Man, the song "Fantasy World" is so awesome.

^Hey Elvis, I may have asked you this already, but have you ever gotten into The Revelators? They were a short-lived late-90s band on Crypt Records. This album is amazing.

Yeah man those guys are great. Been awhile since I heard all the Crypt styled stuff. Been rocking a bit of the Oblivians lately so I'll dig out those guys too.

Oh, nice. I was listening to their record Soul Food not too long ago.

There's a real classic for you. Have you checked out Look At Yourself?

Hey Fortunato- love that Link Wray! What a crazyman!

Yeah! He was a nut. Definitely one of my all-time favorite guitarists. Have you heard the "Missing Links" series that Norton Records put out? It's a bunch of un-released tracks from Link and his various projects. I think there are four volumes, and they're all amazing.

neverending 11-13-2011 10:02 AM

Yah, I have Volume 3. I think my fave Link Wray song is Hot Dog.... the lyrics are pure insanity.

I haven't been able to find an LP of it yet so haven't checked it out. The cover always fascinated me. I need to get The Magician's Birthday too.

I've got the first album and Salisbury which are cool but Demons & Wizards is my favourite. It took awhile to grow on me but now I love it. The Wizard is such a great tune been starting the day of with that for the last few weeks.

Killer album. Definitely one of his best piano records.
Did you ever hear Screamin' Jay Hawkins's cover of "Whistling Past the Graveyard"? It's pretty awesome, since I imagine Hawkins was one of Tom Waits's inspirations.

Sorry..

Oh! Yeah, that song is great. Adkins was a real maniac; I've read so many stories about him. His music was insane, too, but also amazing. Truly one-of-a-kind.

Elvis_Christ 11-13-2011 10:53 PM

Hasil Adkins ruled. You guys see him in the Joe Coleman documentary Rest In Pieces?

Yeah man it sure is. You recommended that one to me awhile back after I mentioned I'd been listening to his album Victims Of The Fury.

Blue Valentine rules love that album. Big fan of Closing Time and Small Change too.

Have you heard Brant Bjork? I think you'd like his Gods & Goddesses album.

The 2nd Capt. Beyond album is just as great as the first, as well.

Yeah I didn't like the second album initially but it's grown on me. Not as wild but still has some solid tunes on it.

Sistinas666 11-30-2011 01:56 AM

I realize I could just youtube it but I'd rather hear your opinions. Is it hippy type music, this Captain Beyond? And if so is it something a Zappa fan would dig?

They were a hard rock band (featuring the original Deep Purple singer Rod Evans) with psychedelic tendencies. Personally I think they were a bit to heavy to be called "hippie". Not as out there as Zappa but maybe similar to tracks he did like Willie The Pimp... I'd say a Zappa fan would dig because I'm one and I like the band a lot.

Sistinas666 11-30-2011 02:35 AM

Hey Elvis, did you listen to the Sun Red Sun record? I forget the title(its a burn) and I realize its old as hell but I think you might like it. It had Ray Gillen and Mike Starr.

It also has wild timing changes that a Zappa fan would appreciate, too, I think.

Oh, yeah man. I love that Growers of Mushroom record! "Sad Road to the Sea" is one of my favorite tracks. Was just listening to that one the other day.
Haven't heard the Elias Hulk one, though. Definitely will check it out. Weren't they a krautrock group?
