watched DEAD MAN earlier today for only the second time...brilliant

Just watched Miike's IMPRINT - pretty damned entertaining, sort of threw the whole spectrum of taboos at you in that one.

The_Return 10-13-2006 07:07 PM

Friday the 13th (What else?)

Well I was planning to marathon the whole series tonight, but considering I fell asleep during this, I think I'll head to bed, haha.

The Omen (2006)
You know what? This wasn't bad at all. Infact, it's quite a strong remake. Or re-filming, as I would call it. The plot follows the original almost to a t; save for some apocoplytic relating to recent world events (which was quite smart in my books). The acting is definately down from the original, way down, and Julia Stiles is a big stinker - but it doesn't distract from the overall experience that much (and besides, she's not the main focus). Visually... it's stunning. Set pieces, camera work, effects... all done very well. The Damien in this movie, in my opinion, is a lot creepier then the older Damien in the originals. Overall... it's like the original. There's really no point to it, except for opening the original up to a newer, flash-craving, audience. And what's so wrong about that?

If you like the original, I'd say check this out at least. There's not too much difference, except for the fact that the film footage is fresher.

Geddy 10-13-2006 10:01 PM

I'm watching Friday part 6 right now. After that 7 and then I'm going to bed.

Phalanx 10-14-2006 07:49 AM

Pink Panther (the new one)...it's ok, nothing great.

Watched "Ali G - Innit" last night, some laughable stuff...

heebiejeebies 10-14-2006 07:59 AM

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. I skipped this one last week because I thought it would be yet another weak addition to the franchise, but I reconsidered when I read some positive reviews. I have to say I was impressed and really liked it. It's not nearly as good as the original, but what is?:p

The Departed. I went to see this with my cousin. I'm not a Scorsese or Dicaprio fan, but I really liked this movie. It's not as good as Infernal Affairs, the Asian movie that inspired it. IMO, Scorsese fell into the same trap a lot of directors fall into; he felt the need to take things one step too far with the ending. He should have ended it about two or three minutes earlier. Overall, however, it was good. Jack Nicholson is great (if a bit over-the-top at times).

Somebody should make a thread on this horror movie for all the kids and new horror fans out there, coz itīs fucking awsome.

Great horror story, great effects and good acting.

The Third Man (1949)

One of the most stylish and entertaining thrillers of all time. The scene in which Orson appears is so mysteriously perfect. Excellent piece of noir.

The Woods
Excellent acting, directing, and art direction - but it didn't make a lot of sense. Good, not great and it takes a bit of a nosedive in the third act.

Poltergeist
Fun trying picking apart what Tobe Hooper did and what Speilberg did on this one. Who would have thought that a project this troubled could end up so much fun!

I've heard they quarreled quite a bit during production. I'm guessing Hooper wanted a gore/scare fest while Spielberg wanted a supernatural action-thriller. Who knew a 50/50 combination of both could be so perfect?

Deep Red (Profondo Rosso)(1975)

I love this movie more and more every time I watch it. It's geniusly creepy and stylish. One of my all-time favorite movies.

crabapple 10-14-2006 09:33 PM

Yeah, Deep Red is great...it's a real horror movie, and it has a great sense of fun and style. Character and story are good.

Madison 10-14-2006 09:51 PM

urgeok 10-15-2006 04:50 AM

Man of the House.

picked this up because i had to use up my store credit.
and was suprised !

Tommy Lee Jones playes a tough no nonsense texas ranger (a stretch for him) but he gets to have fun with it ..

he's been put in charge of protecting 5 witnesses to a homicide ... and they're all cheerleaders.

the suprise of this film is that it didnt fall into a single stupid cliche that i was expecting.

it was extremely well written and directed. great dialogue..
even Tommy Lee couldnt have pulled this off if the writing was bad ... so kudos to the people involved.

related fact - the directors first film was Critters :)
