Hard Candy

Wow. Just wow. I fucking loved it. It gave me a grim satisfaction to see that pedo get what was coming to him. Although I found some of the interactions between the two to be somewhat unrealistic, and some of the girl's dialogue was a little on the cheesy side, this was still quite a good movie. Very much recommended, especially if you have a vendetta against pedophiles.

Hitch

Why was this movie 2 hours long? Or at least it seemed like it. Pretty boring, mildly funny, decently acted anti-romantic comedy. Lots of recognizable faces in this movie, but that couldn't help the sappy script.

D+

My wife, Alana gives it a D-. She says she laughed twice.

Black Beauty (1994) 10 / 10

Phalanx 10-01-2006 07:12 AM

I personally don't like most of what Smith has done...his sense of humour...which they/he clones into pretty much every one of his typecast roles...just makes him come off as an arrogant, annoying son of a bitch. That, and I think he looks kinda like a weird asian with a skin disorder, that tends to get to me.
(Aside from the bad boys series, which I actually think suited him pretty well, I liked those...more likely because it was Lawrence acting the over the top bigmouth for those, and not him)
But Hitch? Boring, completely unfunny to me...yes, it dragged on and on and on and on, and I have to say that if I'd actually went to this at the movies, I would've walked out within the first half hour. Whoever wrote this shit ought to consider making documentaries about advanced business studies...the humour level would be just about right there.

The Leopard Man (1943)

Jacques Tourneur is one of my favorite directors. He's brilliant, and his geniousness shines in this film. Like Cat People, and most other films Val Lewton produced, this flick has got atmosphere that makes anything modern feel boring. Excellent movie, I can't say enough about it.

If you don't have the Val Lewton boxset, get it.

28 Days Later

I watched this when it first came out, and I hated it.

Maybe it's because I already had lowered expectations, or maybe it's because I'm more mature, but whatever the reason, I was blown away by this movie.

Beautifully shot, heartbreaking and very original. The duality between the main characters was a stroke of pure genius.

If you didnt like this movie, I very strongly suggest giving it another chance.

Eek. The only thing that's excellent about this film is it's animation. It's one, if not the most, preachy film I've seen in the past decade. We get it already... father, son, stop force-feeding it to us. I couldn't even finish it.

X-Men III: The Last Stand

CrimsonFiend138 10-01-2006 05:13 PM

Dark Town. I liked it; it's a vampire movie but it had the feel of a zombie movie. They seemed to be eating the body-parts like zombies more than drinking their victims' blood.

The Mothman 10-01-2006 05:51 PM

The Fog
after seeing the thing, i expected a whole lot more out of this. it was still a good movie though, but it just didnt compare to The Thing. The musical score was one of the movie's best features.
7/10

X-Men 3----- 7.5/10

Nice finish to the franchise [ yeah...right ]
Good acting, nice effects, solid story.

Slither-----8.5/10

What a hoot.....fun movie along the same lines as Night of the Creeps.

hellfire1 10-01-2006 07:57 PM

loved slither. very fun movie.

last one for me was the crazies.

It's funny, I actually think that's the weak point of the film. I don't like the score- repetition works in Halloween, but it just annoys me in The Fog.

Videodrome. I went into it with high expectations, and I was SEVERELY disappointed. What a pile of shit.

One of Cronenberg's weaker attempts. James Woods is the only highlight, IMO.

Equilibrium

Running Scared
>>: B

_____V_____ 10-02-2006 01:09 AM

I d give Equilibrium a C or at best B minus, not because of the movie itself, but cuz they tried to rip most of it straight from the Matrix, especially the fight sequences. The movie was enjoyable, but NOT original.

Watched a french movie called Anatomy of Hell tonite, in my continued series of watching offbeat flicks. Not sure if anyone has seen this one yet, but if you are planning to, then be ready for some graphic and explicit scenes. Reminded me of a softcore porn almost, but the story itself didnt make much sense, cept the fact that the entire movie was based on an undercurrent of assertion of dominancy. Watchable, but watch it when alone.

What did you not like about it? I'm just a little curious, as I think very highly of this film (and indeed every film that Cronenberg has made.) Don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to bash your opinion - different strokes, and all that. It's just that this film in particular is generally held in high regard.

hammerfan 10-02-2006 05:49 AM

Half Light

I thought it was pretty good. I figured it out pretty early in the movie, but I still enjoyed it. Even with not being a Demi Moore fan.

I m glad. Bruce has always been a very underrated actor...he d give most modern day actors a run for their money...sadly underused throughout his career though...maybe the tag of "Ash" was his five seconds of glory, and his Waterloo too...

I hated to see him as the ring announcer in "Spider-Man" (guest appearance cuz of his association with Sam Raimi I guess)...he deserved so much more than that...

the_real_linda 10-02-2006 09:49 AM

he'll always be asociated with sam and rob cuz of them always being friends and throught renaissance pictures they've got to work together a lot....i like that sam puts him in cameos like he does with ted...ted is the cuter of the two brothers i must say
