Don't Hang Up - Two prank callers get a taste of their own medicine.
Good stuff, this. They manage to create tension with unlikable characters - Peyton seemed the most likable. The killer looks scary in the mask, which brings you more into the story. There are some twists near the end, but goign into detail would lead me into spoiler territory. |

Ready or Not -
This reminded me a bit of Clue with mansion and odd characters. But maybe it's either a bit too jokey or too dark, I can't figure it out. There are some real hilarious moments throughout. But perhaps with a movie like The Burbs where it's continually played back and forth with the are they killers or not would work better for Ready or Not. Also, there are a few obvious character things that happen which aren't really twists. I remember first seeing Samara Weaving in the Evil Dead TV show and thinking that she was a good actress in her small role. So it's cool seeing her in this movie. And I do kind of like the ending. Yet something about it just doesn't reach that level of a Burbs or Clue. I didn't immediately want to watch the movie again. |

Never Hike in the Snow - A Friday the 13th Fan Film -
I guess this is a bit better than the first one from the same people. But it's still not worth keeping for me. The short does have some good stuff. I liked a few of the opening shots. And as a big fan of Friday the 13th Part 6, this does have another surprise like the last short film. Although it doesn't make much sense given the events of Part 6. But still it's a cool moment, that I don't want to spoil. But at the end of this short, I was just thinking, that's it? Perhaps they are working on a third part. This is only worth checking out if you like Friday the 13th Part 6. Other than that, I would skip it. |
Love and Monsters 8/10
Indeed a monster movie. I really liked it. |
As Above, So Below (2016)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...low_Poster.jpg Pretty silly. But honestly the goofball occult treasure hunt plot was really the only thing remotely interesting about it, as dopey as it was. The Mortuary Collection (2019) https://www.voicesfromthebalcony.com...ion-Poster.jpg I'm a sucker for an EC Comics-style anthology, and sadly this was also just kind of dumb. |

I don't know if the story or the acting makes this an Oscar contender, but nevertheless I fell asleep. |

BONE TOMAHAWK (2015). Very gritty Western becomes very gritty Horror film towards the end. Really good , sort of THE SEARCHERS meets THE HILLS HAVE EYES. Kurt Russell is wonderful here with strong support from Matthew Fox (TV's LOST), Richard Jenkins (SIX FEET UNDER, READ BEFORE BURNING), Patrick Wilson (HARD CANDY, LITTLE CHILDREN), David Arquette (SCREAM) and Sid Haig (SPIDER BABY, COFFEY). An excellent script also. ****

I also saw the original back to back with the remake, I updated on the other thread...not as good as the original in my opinion...I felt like it wasn't scary at all really (or atleast it didnt scare me)...the original still gives me the creeps, the mix of music and realistic circumstances can make us understand the fear the character is going through...but i did enjoy the remake as just plainly fun, and it's cool seeing another movie with this story. |

The Babysitter
& The Babysitter - Killer Queen Both are competent slasher/comedy films. Probably liked the first one a little bit more, but both are fine. Not a bad double. |
The Arrival (1996)
scifi horror, scary aliens who attack disguised as humans trying to kill other humans, and some scary ball that reminds me of other scary contraptions in other films (hellraiser's box, phantasm brain suckers) how they bend their legs will make you uncomfortable (or comfortable depending on preference?) http://www.ericdsnider.com/images/arrival03.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZhbrG5xpwBA/hqdefault.jpg |
