The Prophecy (1995) Christopher Walken is a great evil angel. I really like the story too, it's pretty original.

As I have a few mins I will list a few more of the movies I have watched recently.
The Wax Mask - This is a bit of a strange one...tons of nudity, not as much gore as I would expect from a movie associated with Mr Fulci but I quite enjoyed it all the same! Not one of the best but worth a look if you are a Fulci fan I guess. 6/10 Superstition - Silly bad acted slasher from the 80's. One or two decent kills and a laugh with a bowl of popcorn if you are so inclined! There are tons of better slashers from this era but what the hell... 5.5/10 House of 1000 Corpses I spent an evening re-watching this and Devils Rejects. I still prefer this one though...Cptn Spaulding is already a legend - this movie just gets better for me every time I see it. The nearest to a TCM kinda feel movie whcih actually puts out and delivers! 10/10 The Devils Rejects I purchased the Spec. Double DVD edition with the 2 hr documentary and spent the evening with Spaulding, Otis & Baby and had a ball! I still prefer 1000 but this had a different feel and delivered in a different way to 1000. Awesome 10/10 Swingers This early Vince Vaugn movie is well worth a watch. I love V.V's character in this movie - with some classic lines and hilarious scenes. Not bad at all. 6.5/10 Dangerous Game This is a really strange movie. A film about how Hollywood films are created??!! hmmmph. I love Harvey Keitel but I just couldnt really get into this strange movie of sex, scripts and flashbacks! Madonna was er...Madonna, Keitel was his usual quality self but this did not save this turkey. Sorry. 5/10 The Fog John Carpenters original classic. I adore this movie, recently added the remake to my collection so I had to watch the original before I submitted myself to what most describe as a horrible remake. This double DVD spec. Edition is without doubt the business though. Great film and some great documentaries to boot. Simply a classic. 10/10 Ghostwatcher I gotta say that I'm really getting a penchant for these little indy ghost stories. I loved The Ghosts of Edendale (see my review a couple of months ago on this very site), The Lady in Black was a class little film also, so when I placed this into my DVD player I was hoping for more of the same. What I got was a pretty much decent creepy little movie. Yes, some of the acting is shoddy and the effects in parts are indeed lame but this movie still managed to creep me out in parts. A good solid story to boot - I'm glad I got this little film. 7/10 Finding Neverland I wasn't particulary looking forward to sitting through this movie when mrs Pea Soup in the eye popped it into the DVD player. After watching it I cant wait to see it again. Depp is superb in this (isn't he always)?? Winslet also puts in a strong performance. Some scenes are reminiscent of Burton's 'Big Fish' with some trippy elements which is no bad thing. This movie really should be viewed by all 9/10 |
battle royale... hadn't seen it in a a few years and it's still a great watch.

KissKissBangBang-awesome lil gem of a movie-should have had much more kudos from the Industry.
I watched Anchorman. Stupid but I got about 2 or 3 really good belly laughs out of it so I cannot completely trash it. I do not recommend it though. It seemed to me this movie was trying so hard to be several different things and failed at all of them. Will Ferrell is still a very good comedic actor though, and I have high hopes he gets a role that pushes him up into the Belushi/Sandler status soon. I haven't seen Taladaga Nights but hear it may be his stepping-up movie. Good for him. |
Swingers, only 6.5/10, is kinda low don't you think. This is the movie that started Vince Vaughns career. I would have at least given it a 8.5/10. Also a 10/10 for both House of 1000 Corpses and Devils Rejects, while I enjoyed the second far more than the first, neither deserves a perfect ten. 10's should be reserved for the best of the best, such as Halloween, Alien, The Thing, etc..
But it's all subjective, to each his/her own. |
i'd give Swingers a 10/10 for the answering message machine scene alone..
|
It is all subjective I agree - however to give a film 10/10 or even an 8.5/10 just because it started someones career I find a strange statement. Does this mean that we give Rubberface (Jim Carrey's film debut) a 10/10 simply because it launched his movie career?
I thought Swingers was good, so I'm sticking with 6.5/10 I must agree the answer machine bit was hilarious though - how about 6.7/10 then?? I love the House of 1000 Corpses and Devils Rejects - they are two of the best 'new' horror movies I have seen in a long time, hence 10/10 as I believe that these will be looked at as classics in 15-20 yrs time as we look at Halloween and such like now. |

but for the writing, acting, direction, fresh origionality, taking the piss out of hollywood .. it's still a 10 to me. "well, nothing going on here, lets go" (in the middle of a huge packed happening party) "i'd have killed to get that part !" man there are more good lines in this film than you'd find in 50 other comedies combined.. |
"Soul Survivors"
Really bad |

Just watched The Addams Family Values. I love these movies.
Joan Cusack is great as Debbie. |
Dracula" (1979)
-Frank Langella I remember seing this movie when it first played in theaters and I thought it was a fine film and I still think it is. IMO it's much better then the early '90's Coppola film |

Your probably right, this should have gone under "Last Movie Seen" not "Last Horror Classic Seen" but I still like it. |
House on Haunted Hill (remake)
Uh. it wasn't bad, and the first hour was GREAT! But.... when it *spoiler* started showing that cloudy ghost thing, it got retarded...* 6.5/10 |

Like Eraserhead. Only not so extreme. And it isn't quite as good. |
The Graduate
Up there as one of my favorite dramas. The fact that Dustin Hoffman is in it certainly helps, considering all his movies are up there with my "top something-or-another". I love how normal and calm the mood is. The actors all portray such wonderfully normal human beings; Human beings who make mistakes, sin, and forgive. |
Finished Wicker Man.
Agreed with Alky, a fantastic film. Wonderful ending, great acting as well. So, how do we think Hollywood is going to bastardize the ending? |

Time Bandits. One of my all time favorite movies.

Even if they dont change the ending (a longshot, I know) I really dont think Nick could pull off those final scenes. He's a decent actor, but I dont think he's right for this part at all. Oh well, Im planning to go see the remake this weekend with some friends. Hopefully they wont screw up too badly... |

Masters of Horror: Jenifer 7/10 - Definitely one of the gorier of the series. Do not watch this while you are eating dinner, or if you are squemish. I was expecting more from the story. I was left wanting more answers, like where was she from, whho raised as a child, who were her parents, how does she get these men to fall for her, things like that.
Masters of Horror: Deer Woman 8.5/10 - I laughed a lot through this episode. I love the humor John Landis uses in his movies, such as in An American Werewolf in London. There is even a reference to the movie in this episode. The girl, Cinthia Moura, who played the Deer Woman is very, very easy on the eyes. My only problem with the movie was that it seemed like they ran out of time and ended the movie too abruptly. A good watch nontheless. |
Boogeyman

The Cable Guy
This is right there with Dumb & Dumber as one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies. It's also kinda funny to see all the cameo from then relatively unknown comedians like Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Janine Garofolo, Jack Black, etc... Funny, dark and probably one of the highlights of Jim Carrey's career in my eyes... B+ The Evil Dead You gotta respect any movie that blatantly blows over half it's budget on gore & FX. Being in the low budget film industry (sort of) I really can appreciate how much some films accomplish with so little. This is one of the best minute budget films ever made in terms of entertainment value. Sure, there are some corny lines and bad acting but it all adds to the fun of a great, sloppy, cult classic. B |

Flowers of Flesh & Blood
This is the supposed sequel to 'Devil's Experiment' in the Guinea Pig Series, yet it is the third DVD of the boxset??!! Anyway I watched this expecting the same sick gore of 'Devil's Experiment' and boy did I get it. This is obviously a case of doing everything from D.E x 10 ! More gore, more torture for a longer duration. Great if you like this kind of thing, if not stay away. 7/10 Making of Guinea Pig This is quite an interesting docu-film talking to the director's and crew of the Guinea Pig Series. Quite informative with scenes from all the movies. Not bad as documentaries go. 6/10 Boogeyman 2 This is one strange puppy of a movie...pretty much yourt average slasher although there are a couple of extremely memorable kills. Pretty much all been done before, but it was ok. 5.5/10 Equilibrium Star Wars aside I have never really been into sci-fi or action films particularly (ok, so I have watched Flight of the Navigator, The Last Starfighter, E.T. & Batteries Not Included - but these hardly count as sci-fi!). I have never been interested in the Matrix movies so when I saw this in the bargain bin for £2.49 I strayed from the norm. and after many positive reports from people on this forum decided to take the plunge and purchase it. I found this to be a really good popcorn movie! Ok so some of it is hilariously silly ( I can't think of Christian Bale's rivals name in the movie) but his acting I thought was shocking, as was the dialogue (particularly the part that he is screaming " I cannot feel") or something along those lines...for a guy who is meant to be emotionless he had a darned angry expression throughout the film, I think he should have been subjected to tests before Mr Bale!! hehehe. This aside though I thought the actions sequences were amazing and the overall film is a must see 8/10 |
sympathy for lady vengeance
great film. it was pretty lo-budget but the shots came off like a big-budget movie. great cinematography, beautiful scenes, good acting. it's a little hard to follow b/c the story telling is not chronological and the subtitles come and go pretty quickly. it jumps around a lot like memento, but definitely a must see. think kill bill minus all the hoakie violence and more dramatic acting. 8/10 |

i thought the movie was a lot better than i had expected. ********************************************** SPOILERS ********************************************** Kurt Russells 'changing the direction of the propeller' scene actually got to me. |
The Ringer
I thought that this Johny Knoxville comedy could have been better but overall it was a fairly funny movie. It does come though with the typical sickly slushy feel good ending but due to the hilarious scene with the chinese girl with the incredibly small head (still makes me laugh now thinking about it). 6.5/10 Revolver After receiving much slating in the British Press this latest Guy Ritchie movie soon found itself in the sales in my local HMV. I picked it up hoping that this would be a good addition to what I consider 2 amazing previous Guy Ritchie movies; Snatch (my fave) & Lock Stock. Although I would consider this easily the least impressive of the 3 movies it is still nevertheless a worthy addition, a couple of good twists - typical Ritchie plots and a good solid performance by Ray Liotta. Not unmissable but worth a viewing. 7/10 The Frighteners I must admit to owning this on VHS for the best part of 5 years and NEVER viewing it. Quite shocking, I know...so when I saw this in the bargain bins (poss. due to the recent spec. ed. double DVD release) I had to pick it up and find out what I have been missing out on - which proved to be alot! Jackson really has pulled out all the stops with this fast moving thrill-a-minute ride. Michael J Fox is great in this little spook roller-coaster of fun. I know most of you on here have seen this so I won't bore you all with details but this really is a quality spook fest. Thoroughly enjoyable! 8/10 Possessed When I picked this up the instant attraction was that many years ago I purchased the book 'Possessed' by T. Allen which being a fanatic on the Exorcist I found to be a chilling read. This movie which is based 'on the real version of events' or so it says on the cover grabbed my attention, not to mention that the thought of James Bond ( Timothy Dalton) wrestling with the devil grabbed my imagination so it had to be an instant purchase. What I got was a cheap Exorcist rip off. Don't get me wrong, I love The Exorcist and normally seeing rip off's of classics I find enfuriating to say the least but aside from 'Possessed's final 20 mins or so I actually quite enjoyed it. If you are into possession movies in a big way then you might get something from this. If you love the exorcist and want to see another poor mans version then give it a whirl. If not stick with the one and only Exorcist (or Exorcist 3) - you just can't beat the originals. 6.5/10 Saw After purchasing Saw II I decided I would re-watch the original and then follow it with the sequel having a Saw-Saturday night Special! Even though I obviously knew the twist I still found this movie enthralling from start to finish. Destined to become a classic. 10/10 Saw II I was intrigued to see what they would come up with as a sequel. Would there be the infamous twist as per the original? Yes of course! I was really impressed with this sequel. It had good tension and I loved the fact we got to really know the back story of Jigsaw. Excellent. 9/10 Assault on Precinct 13 Continuing on with my Carpenter season I plucked this from my attic - dusted it down and slammed it into my DVD player. After initially being hit once more with what I can only describe as the most addicitive theme tune EVER (it's still in my head - and now due to humming it constantly for over a week, in my colleagues at work heads also...de de de de de derr) i finally got into what can simply be described as a classic piece of film making. This film for me has lost none of it's original effect, * SPOILER* the shooting of the little girl for instance still shocks to this day. I have never watched the remake as I could not see how it could do anything but fail to live up to this masterpiece. I would rather just watch this again. 10/10 |

Knoxvilles performance as a 'developmentally delayed person was abysmal .. pulling up his pants and saying 'me' instead of 'i'm' was the extent of his range (me jeffy) it just became mushy and preachy so damn fast. i think they still could have kept the message while remaining rude and offensive throughout the movie.. |

I couldn't agree more - spot on there urgeok! |
Finally got around to watching Jenifer. I love how these MOH episiodes are only an hour long, I had tome to watch this before work (and still have time to come here and post about it:p)
I thought it was very good. The ending was beyond obvious, but otherwise there was a couple unexpected bits. My new MOH ranking: 1. Cigarette Burns 2. Dreams in the Witch House 3. Dear Woman 4. Jenifer 4. Chocolate 5. Incident On and Off a Mountain Road 6. Sick Girl 7. Homecoming |
