In the Tall Grass 4-5/10
A movie about people walking in tall grass. Directed by the guy behind the Cube trilogy and I could see some similarities. Also, Patrick Wilson was in it, so.... THAT’s good. |

Anyone watch "El Camino" yet?
For (if this is possible) anyone that doesn't know this, it's a netflix movie follow up to the "Breaking Bad" series and focusses on Jessie Pinkman after the events of the show. Seems like just about everyone loves it. I started watching it. Pretty good so far - with the returning actors/characters falling nicely back into their chemistry. Sadly, we started watching very late so only got about a half way through...but what I've seen so far I've liked. Obviously coming out of the kind of tragic events of the end of BB, so there's not really much of the comedy aspect going on, and the character is practically crawling back from ruin. Don't know what it's leading up to...don't know how it'll end or if we'll ever see more from the BB universe ever again - but thus far, it's worthy. It's nice to visit again. |

Maggie - A zombie film with very little zombies in it. Not to mention the slowest turning zombies ever.
The concept sounds interesting. Reserve 90 minutes for what has only 1 minute in a regular zombie flick. It was nice to see Schwarzenegger about as far away from the Terminator as possible and his portrayal of a man dealing with the loss of a child and the feeling of powerlessness that comes in it was pretty good. They avoid the trap of turning this into a cheap tearjerker and the moment with the kiss on the forehead was pretty tense. That said: Does that mean the film lives up to it's full potential? Could they make more out of it with a different cast or script? Does the element of zombies keep it from getting more recognition? Or is it the presence of Schwarzenegger? Not sure. |

Dragged Across Concrete 6/10
Have you ever dreamed of watching a movie about two guys talking in a car? You have? Well then, the waiting is over. THIS IS THE MOVIE FOR YOU!!! |
I Trapped the Devil - Slow boiler (sometimes a bit too slow for my liking) with an intense finish that made up for a lot.

HIRED GUN (2016). Really interesting doc on musicians who are hired to appear on albums and tours, usually without much recognition or job security. Could almost be a companion piece to THE WRECKING CREW, 20 FEET FROM STARDOM and STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN (all which I heartily recommend). Pink and Alice Cooper get the highest marks as far as working conditions, but Billy Joel fans should give this a pass as he comes off as a major tool. ****

Terminator: Dark Fate
I wasn't expecting much...the default setting of any Terminator veteran post T2. Honestly? It's ok. I liked it more than Genesys. I definitely liked it more than T3. I would say...it's kind of roughly balanced with how much I liked Salvation. Definitely made as an intended relaunch. It's interesting. The new Terminator has got some balls. Unusual storyline, hadn't really thought about what would happen if "etc etc' had occurred. Decent action scenes. Ok characters. Couple of nice twists. Nothing is ever going to touch Terminator 2. This one at least got a little closer than most. |

DANTE'S PEAK (1997). Found this to be pretty damn good-don't get all the negative reviews- with believable characters and impressive special effects. *** |

You can't do a review based on your experience with the franchise thus far, and a trailer? All that's gonna do is convince people not to watch it...which sadly, they're already not...apparently it's getting slayed, which is more likely the result of people already going on past films to make their decision. It's not up there with T1&2...but it's at least a little bit of a return to form. |

And I read both story breakdowns on wiki and wikia. It wasn't just going by the trailer. |

You're right. Nothing has come close to T2. This, well, still pretty far away. But, closer. Quote:
Even if say it was a source or author, journalist or whatever the many online equivalents would be, even if it was a source you admire, trust, and you find to be in line with your existing tastes etc...there's always the off chance that their take, might influence your own. You gotta get boots on the ground with this. I mean I know you're not gonna like it as much as T2. I knew I wouldn't either...so trust me, you're going in correct about that...but it was, (I say this as a guy born in 1981 who holds the original dearly as well as the first sequel...I believe I was at the perfect age to be in fucking awe of these movies - and I too, have been consistently disappointed and let down by the franchise since...it's ridiculous...and it pisses me off that the whole franchise is stained by the ratio of bad/good Terminator films) not bad. Take my advice - go see it. It's not gonna be better than on the big screen...so even if it's a shitshow by your standards, you get the best possible shitshow, and less exposure to online complainants that'll hate it on the merit of the other latter sequels/reboot attempt further effect your own judgement. I believe if this had been Terminator 3, I wouldn't have lost faith in the franchise like I did when I saw what they *actually* gave us. When you write a review, man. I'll read it. |
