as a brain-off, horror movie is very enjoyable with comic relief by john goodman. the fact that it's about killer animals just adds to the fun

That's what it is, a bunch of goofy/stupid stuff. Ordinary story, decent acting(for a comedy of this sort anyway), there's a good number of laughs and a couple really funny parts. If you like goofy/stupid stuff comedy then you should enjoy it.

The previews make it look like a bad kind of stupid:p

Well making me laugh isn't exactly the hardest thing in the world to do. But for someone more critical of comedies I'd say it's hit or miss. I think it's a perfect trailor in the sense that it pretty much shows you how the whole movie's gonna be.

tarcher80 08-06-2006 08:43 PM

sorry, but i'm lazy and didn't feel like writing a different post for this thread, so i'm using the one i posted in "the descent" thread.

i just got back from the descent and it definitely lives up to the hype. now excuse me for a moment while i become a critical bastard. the "oh shit" moments were great, but i think neil used a little too many-by the end they had lost some of their value. also i was a little disappointed w/ the creatures-they just look too human. i think if the creatures were a little more shocking in appearance, it would have made the film even scarier. now, that being said i still loved the movie. i may not have jumped (like everyone else in the theatre), but my heart was in my throat more than once. neil marshall does a great job building up the tension then letting it out like a balloon. he gets your mind away from the creatures just long enough that when they pop up it makes for a great scare. decent back story too. i did not know what was going to happen w/ the main characters and their conflict until, well... it happened. the ending that hollywood added wasn't too bad, but the original sounds much better. all in all this is a very well made horror film that should be seen.

Miss Olivia 08-06-2006 09:01 PM

Awesome. I can't wait to see it.

I just watched The Delta Force with Chuck Norris.
Cheeseball fun.

Bad Taste

How this flew below my radar for so long is a mystery to me, but I finally saw it & I loved every minute of it! Great, sloppy gore, subtle dark comedy, well acted & directed on a pretty low budget. This movie was awesome from start to finish and includes one of the most creative kills I've ever seen in my life. Excellent lowbrow horror fun...

I may go see it tonight.

Alone of course. :(

"V for Vendetta" 7/10

It was ok. Nothing more, nothing less..

"Half light" 4/10

Horror movie, MY ASS!!

"Mirrormask" 2/10

Surreal crap with a boring story, actors as colorless as a concrete wall and make-up effects so lousy it brought back horrible, horrible memories of the BBC-"Neverwhere" experience.

It was easy to see that the story and lots of the ideas came from the mind of Gaiman, but maybe it just doesnīt work on film..

Altered States

At first some of the dialoge made me worry that this would go over my head, but I got the feel of it pretty quick and wound up really enjoying it. The ending seemed a bit forced, but it was still fitting. Very cool movie...great visuals, really deep ideas, leaves you with lots to think about.

Speaking of the ending...

Im too lazy to do the research...this came out before the video for Take On Me by A-Ha, correct? If so, I love that video even more now for referencing this movie. (For those not famillar with it, I recomend checking it out. The video's probably on YouTube or something. Even if you dont like the song, Im sure you'll agree that the video is pretty awesome)

Vodstok 08-07-2006 11:52 AM

ask and ye shall recieve mr penguin man. the A-ha video is from 1986, 6 years after altered states came out (1980)

I finally got my copy of Xtro today....I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet. I'll have to watch it a couple of times before I can tell if I liked it. Some of it was a little....vague. The alien at the beginning was pretty cool. I'll probably watch it again after it gets dark and see if it gets better.

Phalanx 08-07-2006 03:42 PM

Got Jacksons King Kong on pay per view...nice effects, great musical scoring, a little boring though, felt as though it was really pushed to that 3 hr mark.

The_Return 08-07-2006 03:51 PM

Snow White: A Tale of Terror

I liked it. It was very slow paced, but still an enjoyable twist on the story.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

10/10

THIS is a perfect movie.

joshaube 08-07-2006 06:37 PM

After reading the IMDb comments on this film, I'm really eager to watch it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; while the original is in some terms a classic, I found this reinvisionment of the novel to be leaps and bounds above it. Why? Because this, in my opinion, is how Ronald wanted his novel to be seen. He disowned the original, and I am curious to see what he would think of this. I certainly love it. Tim Burton cares for his work, greatly, and it sure shows through.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

I own it, its amazing. The only errors are in the dialogue, and that acting isn't flawless, but good nonetheless.

Sometimes I question your taste, but you're dead on with this one. Has been one of my favourite films ever since I saw it in theatres as soon as it came out. Love it.
