Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
I liked this one a lot. Strange art style, but worked for me... The overall story was quite simplistic, but yes, played out a lot like a long issue of a comic book. Being set in the film version of the "Ultimate" universe, you get to see some slightly different iterations of the villains which was interesting. Good balance of action, dark moments, and humour. Loved the "main" Peter Parker used in this one too...close to being Raimis version, and while it was kind of tragic to see what had become of him...it was good to see him back in action and move towards his happy ending. Miles Morales as the "new" Spider-Man was well done, and played right with good measures of naivete and inexperience, but also great heart. The actions scenes were well done, even if in that last scene with realities colliding a lot of the time I didn't know what the hell I was looking at. The stakes are big, and it was really cool just to see these various other-reality characters I've followed both on screen, and interacting with each other. Overall, this actually ranks as one of the top Spider-Man films for me. I'd give it 8/10 - Definitely worth a watch, and I'm glad I did. As a comic fan, I'd very much like if they did a darker follow up to handle the "Morlun and co" storyline... |

THE GREEN MILE (1999). Solid adaptation of Stephen King's book with, for my money, perfect casting for the roles-could almost see their faces while reading the book. with Doug Hutchins loathsome as Percy and Sam Rockwell not far behind. Very good in every way, only real beef is Paul saying things that Brutal said in the book. Also, kudos to the late Michael Clarke Duncan, so touching as John Coffey. ****1/2 |
DIGGING UP THE MARROW 2014
A horror film director is contacted by a man claiming he has discovered real monsters. The director and his camera man try to document the man's story. I found this to be horribly over-acted and that took away from a pretty cool idea. |
ALIEN: ZONE OF SILENCE 2017
A woman follows the trail of her brother and his best friend after they disappear in the desert. Quite boring with really no payout in the end. |

The Killing of a Sacred Deer 9/10
I truly loved this movie. It got inside my head and I caught onto things the middle half of the movie. Might need to watch it again so I can watch it a second time to see if there's anything I missed. Martian was truly creepy and he certainly knew how to get inside people's heads. https://deadpeasantssociety.files.wo...2576.png?w=809 |
Nightmare on Elm Street - Remake
I watched it again to see if it was as bad as I remember. And it is still bad. The original is a classic horror movie. The remake doesn't even come close. |

FROZEN 2010
Three friends get trapped high up on a ski lift when the resort closes down for the night. Just about everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. Except for the lame dialogue, it was pretty good. |
Cape Fear (1991)
7/10 A excon (Robert DeNiro) seeks revenge against his former attorney (Nick Nolte). Martin Scorsese's direction here is very crafty -- kind of a mix between Brain DePalma à la Body Double and Hitchcock à la Marnie -- and I might recommend it just for that, if you like that sort of thing. But as far as story and suspense goes, it's just alright, the story hits all the same plot points as the original 1962 film (which is a better film), and the ending is rather cliche, senseless and anticlimactic. |

The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996)
5/10 In 2010, United Nations negotiator Edward Douglas (David Thewlis) gets rescued at sea and is taken to an island where Dr. Moreau (Marlon Brando) and his assistant (Val Kilmer) are conducting experiments combining human and animal DNA in an effort to remove human immorality. The film suffers from two main defects. First, it's much too disjointed. Some interesting main plot points are introduced, such as Moreau's experimental intention to genetically remove evil, and Edward's romantic interest in one of Moreau's creations, buts these main plots are neither passionately pusued, nor are these mixed well with other plots points. The film also tries to create a 80's styled "manimal" bad guy that just comes off comical, unrealistic and cliche. The original film, Island of Lost Souls, is a much better film. |
Just got done with Aquaman.
Never really a character I've followed too much (aside from this series called "sword of atlantis" with a different titular character) outside of his appearances in Justice League and the like. I felt this was a pretty well done, self contained film. In fact I'd say I'd rate this as the best of the current run of DC movies. I felt like Atlantis itself was maybe a bit busy/over the top, but hey, they were going for wow factor I guess. The storyline is simplistic though serviceable. I thought it really shone in the combat sequences...the first fight between Aquaman and his brother felt SO comic book, but you could see what was going on and it just looked and felt like it should. Bit effectsy, but yeah I enjoyed it, in fact much more than I thought it would. |

The Pool: A good thriller that uses everything to it's advantage and builds up tension very well. Granted, it does get a bit forced/convoluted at times. But the story telling does keep you involved in the plot, and there even is time time for a laugh or two.
Cut Off (aka Abgeshnitten): A very enjoyable serial killer flick with Moritz Bleibtrau shining again. It does follow some of the genre tropes, but at least it does not go for every low hanging fruit. Example: the one character you would expect to be in cahoots with the killer turns out not to be. |

ATTACK THE BLOCK 2011
British sci/fi dark comedy. A gang of youths try to battle aliens in their neighborhood. Quite funny and i would gladly recommend it. |
That jedi guy was in it right? The traitor?

Mercy Black
This was not good. It could've been if they had focused more on making it creepy and atmospheric instead of relying on cliches and jump scares. This could've been a good story about viral legends and the things children or just people in general do when they believe in something awful. The acting is terrible and there's nothing scary about the Mercy Black creature. 3/10 |

Unfriended 2 Dark Web -
I wasn't going to watch this one. I remember someone here reviewing it and I commented on that fairly recently. I thought it was just a sequel to the first movie which I didn't think was that good. But it was short and has Betty Gabriel in it. I've noticed her in a bunch of movies recently. I think people started to notice her in Get Out as the maid. Since that I've seen her in Westworld TV, Counterpart TV, and Upgrade. She's a really good actress. Unfriended Dark Web surprised me. The setup is still the same with the computer screens and chats telling the story. However maybe I should have known it wasn't a true sequel from the title. The acting is good from everyone. The actress who plays the Amaya reminds me of another actress that I'm trying to remember. I like how current it is with some of the computer technology talk. There is one thing about the movie that might be a bit of a negative. I'll just say that if you are a good computer user then what happens early on might not make sense. But just go with it. I think this movie is worth a watch for horror fans. I like it a lot more than the original. It's still not worth owning. And it is a bit dark in the end but according to wiki there are alternate endings that I'm reading about. |
WE GO ON 2016
A young man takes out a newspaper ad promising $30,000.00 to the first person that can prove what happens after death. Thought it would be dull but it turned out quite interesting. |

28 Days Later... (2002)
8/10 Pretty good zombie film taking place in England. Captures the action, suspense and essential characters well. The actor Cillian Murphy always reminds me of Eric Roberts. He's played so many American roles, I didn't even know he's an Irish national. The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008) 7/10 A psychic priest helps Mulder, Scully and FBI with a deadly missing persons case. Pretty good film. I enjoyed it. The ending wasn't perfectly clear to me, needed more exposition, but maybe I was looking for more than was there. Not sure what the prior harsh reviews were for. Maybe just unmet expectations. It's a crime drama with supernatural, suspense and horror aspects, as opposed to sci-fi, sci-fi effects and humor. It does severely undeploy the natural comedic talents of the stars, but of course too much of that can wreck the serious horror tones. |
Shazam! 7/10
Pretty funny with a pretty cool villain in Mark Strong. But what really rubbed me the wrong way was how different the boy and the superhero acted even tho they were supposed to be the same person. I blame the boys bad acting. His character was so damn annoying. |
I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu, 2019. 4/10
Director: Meir Zarchi https://horrornews.net/wp-content/up...ve-Deja-Vu.jpg Holy fuck was this terrible. I often found myself staring at the screen with my mouth agape, thinking wtf am I doing here. Cold Pursuit, 2019. 5/10 Director: Hans Petter Moland ![]() I didn't like this one at all. Liam was good dishing out his revenge but everything else blew. This was a comedy folks. Yep. Unbelievable. |

I Trapped the Devil, 2019. 7/10
Director: Josh Lobo https://cdn.flickeringmyth.com/wp-co...ot-600x334.png This film was really good. It does mirror POD by Mickey Keating but goes a bit deeper and darker. |
