Red Sparrow (2018)
Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to 'Sparrow School,' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. Her first mission, targeting a C.I.A. agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.

Good movie. Wife and I both really enjoyed it. Brutal, smart, compelling performance by Jennifer Lawrence. I recommend it.

Re: Born (2016)
A legend covert soldier with a mysterious past now decides to once again unleash his beast inside of him to stand up for what he cares about.

I.M.D.B.

Started off interesting with Metal Gear Solid-esque stealth action, but slowly degenerated into the ridiculous, with one emotionless man fighting flawlessly against impossible odds, dodging bullets and using some bizarre monkey-like close quarter combat. All the while his expression never changes from mildly bored looking.

Good. Strong performance by Freeman carries a decent zombie movie. Enjoyable.

Solo: A Star Wars Story
7/10

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ory_poster.jpg

IMDB: "During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion."

It's fairly bland and unimaginative in general. The story picks up some momentum in the last 40 mins. It feels like the film must dutifully fill in the Star Wars Han Solo cannon (what the previous Star Wars story said happened).

The story makes a horrible blunder in taking on emancipation of robots... a ridiculous story and unwelcome diversion... which actually stumbles into being insulting to actual emancipation and civil rights movements of humankind. When the film made light of the droid wanting droid emancipation, because the droid was eccentric and delusional, it was funny, when the film turned to pickup the torch, it dropped everything.

Stranded at the side of the road after a tire blowout, a group of friends become targets for an enigmatic sniper.

I like director Ryûhei Kitamura. Versus is my favourite zombie movie ever made. Unfortunately, other than some good camera work and some fun gore, this movie wasn't particularly interesting.

Deadpool 2
8/10

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...l_2_poster.jpg

Deadpool assembles a team to save a boy with supernatural abilities from a time traveling cyborg named Cable.

Deadpool continues to be a fairly creative and humorous superhero film, full of parody, breaking the 4th wall, and a cord of genuine heart and goodness. The heart and goodness still comes through, though not as convincing as needed, nor quite as heartfelt as the prior film. Deadpool's concern for the boy is underdeveloped.

I noticed Deadpool 2 makes a continuing joke where the Deadpool character mentions Cable as being "dark", and then peppers the film with Deadpool teasing Cable for being racist. The theatre audience was silent for almost every re-appearance of this bit, where otherwise there was plenty of laughter.

Jailbreak (2017)
I.M.D.B.
What started as a simple escort mission will soon turn to chaos as the prisoners of Koh Kla take over the prison grounds. A special task force [Jean-Paul Ly, Dara Our, Tharoth Sam] gets trapped in the prison will have to fight their way out for survival, to protect a key witness

Weak story peppered with out-of-place humor, but this is a martial arts movie and not much more. The fight scenes are great, and this one is definitely recommended for choreographed fisticuffs enthusiasts.

Tomb Raider (2018)

Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she discovers the island where her father disappeared.

This movie was...fine. Nothing really interesting or memorable. Genuinely felt like the video game in places. A forgettable movie that was competently made but generally uninteresting.

CONSPIRACY (2001). Very good HBO presentation of the 1/20/42 Wannsee Conference where various branches of German Civil Service met with the SS to make Genocide a National concern. Solid turns by Kenneth Branagh (Reinhard Heydrich) and Stanley Tucci (Adolf Eichmann). ****

They did have guns, unfortunately they started off with only 2 bullets and the rest of the ammo was in an outbuilding.

Feral (2017)
I.M.D.B.
Students fight to survive a weekend in the woods.

Ugh. Terrible. Atrocious dialogue, delivered badly. Watching this felt like a complete waste of time.
A character goes from "Do you think [this character] is really gay?" to "Will you marry me?" to "I need to go take a piss in the woods" in the space of a minute. Great lines, said unironically, like "Why does he have horse tranquilizers?". "Well he's not playing My Little Pony!"
I hated everyone in this movie.
