saw munich on monday and was skeptical going in b/c of the mixed reviews, but went out really liking it... great direction, acting, character development, story, pacing. just an all-around great movie: 9/10.

PR3SSUR3 06-22-2006 01:52 PM

Yeah Munich was quite good, a little overlong and historically inaccurate perhaps, but not offensively so (to me anyway).

Miss Olivia 06-22-2006 02:06 PM

Aliens was a great movie, but the original still scares me WAY more. Actually, it's so scary to me that it's still to that point of almost being unpleasant to watch, because afterwards I still have nightmares about being on that ship. Only in my dream I always say FUCK the cat and run into the lifeboat, which for some reason has blue plastic carpet in it like you find on boats...and I always look through the portal in the door and it's always on the other side staring back at me.....(shudder)

On a lighter note, I just got to watch Saturday the 14th for the first time in many years, and it's still pretty damn entertaining. Not only is my copy in PERFECT condition, the movie still made me laugh in my adult state....awesome....

Night Watch

Well I've been waiting a while for this to release so I was eager to check it out. I have to say I was impressed.... I think. I found the story to be fairly confusing and will certainly be rewtaching this again in the very near future. From what I gathered it was like a blend of X-Men, Matrix & Vampires with some pretty cool violence and a crazy storyline.

Normally I'd grade a movie right here, but I am going to reserve judgement until I watch it one more time. (And unfortunately it will be a while as I just returned it & will be out of town for the next week.) But once I do rewatch it, you guys will be the first to know.

Better than Itchi in my opinion, but you better check it out for yourself. You might think different, but definitely check it out.

Cool I'll give it a day in court!

Wolf Creek:

Over rated. About 5 minutes of this movie kicked my ass and was innovative..... the same country put out Romper Stomper and Bad Boy Bubby and insulted audiences with this fruitless TCM "true story" rip off? "Thats not a knife"??? Way to cut your own throats with this trite shit.
The movies that people constantley disregard as exploitative using the same subject matter get the realism/voyeuristic (- I'll get burnt for saying that but whatever thats why people watch this true crime shit to return to the scene of the crime "waaaaarts n' all love" ) intentions across a lot better than this PC Pyschothriller garbage.......

The far superior Ted Bundy, Hillside Strangler and Manson Family films still go unnoticed while this crap gets critical aclaim?!

you cant compare these 2 films at all .. completely different.
no hyperviolence in Oldboy .. but it's gritty and nuts in it's own way

clearly a Korean VS Japanese sensibility

(more subdued but still compelling)

Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis

Good cheesy fun. Is it as good as the other RotLD movies? Absolutely not. Is it worth a view? Probably a few. I'll be watching it again someday.

Let's not really bicker and argue about acting/plot/FX blah blah. I want to get to the real importance of this movie; the reason why I decided to review it in the first place. The trailer for The Nun.

Holy shit! I don't think I've ever wanted to see a movie so bad in all of my life! Has anybody seen The Nun? From the trailer alone, I have deduced that this has to be the greatest piece of cinema ever.

Final score: 15/10 (5 points for the movie, +10 for The Nun trailer)

i think it is a bit. i've seen it, and while i think it's a good movie, in no way do i think it's the "chef d'oeuvre" that everyone claims it to be.

Havent seen Itchi yet...

Last night I was really tired and somewhat sick. Today, I feel like giving Oldboy a proper review...if anyone cares.

Oldboy

A man is kidnapped and locked away, without any idea why or for how long. 15 years later he is released, and vows to find his captors have his revenge. Sounds like a pretty basic plot, right? You couldnt be more wrong.

I was really surprised by Oldboy. I'd read plenty of reviews calling it a masterpiece, an instant classic, the "best movie ever", ect., but I never imagined that I really would be this good. The actors are great, especially Min-sik Choi as the main character.

There really isnt much else to say about the film. One of the best movies Ive seen in a very long time. (I find myself saying that incresingly often lately...)

9.5/10

hey if people like it, they like it !

the word 'overrated ' is losing its significance for me ..

i didnt think it was the best movie i ever saw - but it was better than a hell of a lot.

it had weaknesses but it also left you with strong images that stick in your mind (the hammer fight sequence for one)

if a shitpile of people really personally liked it ... how does that translate to overrated ?

bad word, bad bad word ..

hellfire1 06-23-2006 09:42 AM

i didn't say overrated. i said i didn't think it was the masterpiece everyone says it is... though it is a good movie.

anyhoo... i'm laboring through the corpse bride, which is not really interesting me a whole lot, hence the posting here. :p

Loved the movie and it is funny if you like that type of humor. As far as comedy punk sci-fi movies go it's the best.

The Cold, AKA The Game

Well this was certainly a weird little film. Very low budget, very bad actors, very 80's...very strange!

The plot is basically just a confusing rehash of House on Haunted Hill. 3 eccentric millionaires invite a group of people to stay at their mansion to face their greatest fears. The last one gets a million dollars. Pretty straight forward, but they still manage to make it a jumbled, confusing mess. At one point near the end, the narrator even admits he doesn't have a clue what's happening!

The actors are exactly what you'd expect to see in a low budget 80's horror flick, which is to say that they couldn't act their way out of a wet paper bag. They do have some amusing lines, including the best pick-up line ever "I had a vasectomy!".

Really though, this isn't an awful film considering. It's interesting to watch, because you really have no idea what's going to happen from one scene to the next. Really odd and poorly made film, but still entertaining in it's own way.

Oh ya...I watched this yesterday for the first time and forgot to post:

Army of Darkness

Being a huge fan of the Evil Dead franchise, and a huge Bruce Campbell fan in general, I knew I was going to enjoy this. It totally abandons the horror aspect of the first 2, but is still ALOT of fun.

The plot is completly off-the-wall, and I loved it. It picks up where ED2 leaves off, with Ash transported to the Middle Ages. He has to find the Necronomicon in order to return to his own time, but inadvertantly unleashes Hell upon the world...literally. Great plot, kept me absorbed and enthralled from beginning to end.

Ash has got to be one of the greatest characters ever put on film. He really comes into his own in this one, spouting more one-liners than ever. Bruce Campbell is a very underrated actor who really deserves more recognition. The rest of the cast are pretty good as well.

Though it's nothing like it's predacessors, this is a great film. Sure it's kind of silly, but it knows what it is and has fun with it.

Eight Below
I honestly didn't expect it to be half as good as it was and was surprised with the entire movie. Paul walker was decent, the dogs were great, and the story was actually decent. Not in my top 10 of course but I am glad we picked it up.

PS: To answer the Sci-Fi question, Camp Cucamunga was (and I didn't know this before netflixing) a bad made for tv summer family movie. Rented it for the wife because she likes Aniston but check out this cast http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099212/. Full House, Wonder Years... URKEL. Yeah, then mix in John Ratzenburger, Breckin Meyer, G. Gordon Liddy, and Sherman Hemsley. Enough ranting, in my PS heh.

With the amount of 9's Ive been throwing around lately, Im starting to sound like Amalthea (no offence). I guess I'll have to swear off good movies for awhile...:p

The Sting

"Winner of 7 Academy Awards!" the DVD box proudly proclaims. And now after seeing this classic for the first time, I have to say that it deserves every single one.

Newman and Redford are perfect together as the two grifters that set of the sting of the century against a crooked banker played wonderfully by Robert Shaw. The rest of the supporting cast is great, especially Charles Durning as Lt. Snyder, possibly one of the most easily hated characters I can think of.

I wont say anything more about the plot, because I went in blind and I think it was for the better. Suffice to say that unless someone has spoiled it for you, it'll surprise most anyone at some point along the way.

Nothing else needs to be said about this film. A true classic, and anyone who hasn't seen it should do so right away!

9/10
