THE VAULT 2017

Bank robbers are baffled as to why the robbery is going so wrong.

So dark at some points..made things a bit ineffective. Not bad though.

When I read the storyline to this film I said WTF, I gotta see this! The writer/director is insane. ::love:: This isn't a fucked up sick gory film but it is uniquely strange. All the characters fit perfectly in the weirdness. Comedy is present, not my favorite genre but the fucking craziness helps with that.. No nudity, nor cursing but had some old school FX and some CGI. I really would like to know how the stomach cutting was done..the effect they used was odd but interesting...enough from me.. JUST check out the film. It's free on Amazon.

Ah, "free with ads" at amazon.com. As soon as I get my good PC backup I'll check it out. Sounds trippy. ::big grin::

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/wiuy5rn7t/thor3.jpg

It was delightfully funny indeed but less funnier than I thought it'd be after reading such comments or reviews like total comedic trash etc. At least GOTG vol. 1 & 2 were way more comedic than this one. Overall, a total entertainer and found this even better than Spider-man: Homecoming (2017).

Great movies to watch back to back.. to back.

Thumb resize.

"Better Watch Out/ Safe Neighborhood" 8-9/10

Young Levi Miller (only 14???) acted his ass off in this one.

Thumb resize.

"Happy Death Day" 8/10

Fun and entertaining story.

Thumb resize.

"The Babysitter" 7-8/10

Another strong performance by a young actor.

"Monday at 11:01" 6/10

Despite some bad dialogue at times, this was a pretty decent what-the-hell-is-going-on flick, untill the ridiculous reveal at the end.

roshiq 11-08-2017 12:56 AM

Sleepwalker (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/yyc3brz2h/Sleepwalker.jpg

Troubled by bouts of sleepwalking and disturbing nightmares, graduate student Sarah Foster goes to her university sleep research center for help. But when she wakes up after her first night of being monitored, the world she lives in seems to have changed in subtle, Twilight-Zone-esque ways.

Slow burn, decently made "identity & reality blender" thriller but the final payoff/reveal was not that much satisfactory.

I'd rate it about the same. A buddy of mine loved it (he's our age). Felt retro to me... 80s in particular. Solidly made, but definitely not new ground.

I guess it's a parody? I don't want to get into a habit of saying every horror-comedy is parody. Maybe it comes off to me as parody because it also comes off as retro... or maybe just because it's well tread territory. What do you think?

Yea, it was kinda 80s. Might be the kid against bad guys theme that did it. The movie's problem, imo, was after the big reveal it became something you've seen lots of times before. A shame, cuz I really liked the chemistry between the kid and the babysitter and the scenes with just those two together.

On another note, is it just me or is there more talented kid actors popping up this decade than ever before? Might be because there's more kid actors being used than ever before, idk. The last 2 decades we've seen tons and tons of teens in horror movies, but this decade the jews of Hollywood has thougt, "We can do it even cheaper, muahahaha". Sorry, that was a bit racist ( but racist in a FUN way, right? :D).

An Irish attempt for a "J-Horror" sort of scary flick but it failed horribly, mostly due to poor vfx/make up & underdeveloped backstory.

I was disappointed that it wasn't the scenario I had first read: that it was going to be about Trish and her young son (named after Dary).

THE DESCENT (2005). Not as good as DOG SOLDIERS, but pretty satisfying just the same. Serious suspense and I just love women who kick mutant ass::love::. This is the unedited cut and a lot of grue, but not to the detriment of the story. ****

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
6/10

Lot's of good clean fun. It's funny and tongue-in-cheek all the way through without breaking character. Character driven story, action and effects. More comic-booky than prior live action 'super hero' and Avenger films. One doesn't need to have seen prior Avenger films to enjoy it. Decent story that's just mildly entertaining (nothing wrong with that), not any serious or emotional themes going on. Found a fairly comfortable running length at 2h10m, though I would have cut another 10-15 mins.

Nailed it... that the relationship between the kid and babysitter was the heart of the film, and the build up to reveal was the entertaining part. After that, it totally lost it, actually pretty boring after the reveal, as it was so clique and robotic.

I haven't really noticed more good kid actors. I think it's more a matter of script writers giving kids more character depth.

Dave made a Maze (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/gr36xvp6x/Dave_maze.jpg

Out of frustrations, in a desperate attempt to prove himself, Dave builds a cardboard labyrinth over a weekend and ventures inside, only to get lost inside its twists and turns. After girlfriend Annie comes home from a work trip, she learns that he can't get out. News of Dave's predicament spreads and soon his friends enter his bizarre creation to try and save him.
This whimsical fantasy kind of bizarre comedy comes with a pretty interesting idea but sadly falls kind of short in terms of substance at the end or the bite that needed to sustain itself as a feature length. But definitely it deserves kudos for it its pretty unique and creative efforts for presenting a weird & wonderful world made of cardboard.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/igzpm14qx/Valerian.jpg

It still could have saved itself at the box office more or less with the same plot, just needed more bankable starts like Chris Pratt & Scarlett Johansson but more importantly couple of rewrites & slightly different & more edgy treatment required. Moreover, they could have save at least 20 odd minutes by removing that pointless & time wasting 'kidnap & rescue' segment where a giant-fat alien tribe kidnapped the heroin Sgt. Laureline (Cara Delevingne).

Overall, not bad, had the potential to become a decent series but sad, they blew it away.

Mayhem (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/ejcfwmhxl/Mayhem.jpg

It's similar to THE BELKO EXPERIMENT only in terms of both the films got the premise of an office building complex where chaos & violence breakthroughs but here a virus plays the part that makes stress hormone levels rise & stimulates extreme emotions without the realization of difference between right & wrong. And surely it worked at least as a better idea than somehow putting explosive chips in the skulls of co-workers who were ordered to kill each other by a mystery voice (Belko Experiment).
Moreover MAYHEM utilized the corporate affairs & its environment with a way more convincing & better approach. Overall, a better executed, more entertaining & bloodier film than TBE.

Glad to see Samara Weaving from Netflix's THE BABYSITTER back in here with another kick-ass role, looks like she's the breakthrough star of the genre this year.

Justice League (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/wpw4ch8p5/JL1.jpg

JUSTICE LEAGUE isn't a perfect superhero movie. A poorly done, one dimensional villain, rush in the story line, almost zero emphasis on how's the world dealing with the events...there are issues to get critical about it. But does that really means it's another entertaining mess of a DC film?! I definitely wouldn't call it a total mess but yeah..still found it quite entertaining!! It's basically a superhero movie mostly about the superheros, from character introductions to all the fun & actions, JL was a triumph of DC's supreme superheros. The entertainment level was so high that all those critical issues didn't actually bothered me much; the heroes steals the show entirely, the villain & the crisis felt like minor issues or an excuse to bringing them all together. All the actors shines in their respective roles; Miller surprised me as Barry Allen, Jason Momoa was badass as Aquaman, even Ray Fisher as Cyborg was pretty adequately fits into the group. WW & Batsy have little grown with their characters and man...Sup returned as the best of them, one of the versions of Superman that we've been waiting for. If you are familiar with the style & execution of Snyder & Whedon's filmmaking then I'm sure you'll see the difference here, the style of 2 different directors were somewhat quite visible throughout the movie but in a good way. In Justice League, we have somewhat got the best of both of them. I'm glad whedon stepped in & saved the movie from being another Snyder's signature entertaining mess. His light & full of life & fun touches were noticeable and made this such an enjoyable ride from start to finish despite having several issues.

DCEU still alive and I'm looking forward to see further installments.

Basically it deserves hardly a 'B-' or 'B' may be but my inner fanboy like to give it a B+.
