Brimstone (2016)
B/C
Decent moody western with Guy Pearce as a fanatical reverend.

Split (2016)
B
Pretty good but I expected it to be a little better.
For some reason I liked The Visit better.
Also, I think James McAvoy would make a great Joker.

It's one film I cannot stop recommending to one and all. Watch it after midnight, specially with all the lights out. (pun intended)

I really liked that one too

I really liked this. Great acting and story. Managed to not fall into cliches

Without spoiling it, all I can say is - I am very glad I watched it.

Superb film - dare I say a refreshing gem from a country which doesn't delve into this genre much.

Thanks for the rec, Rosh.

I knew you'd love it for sure.

Btw, have you seen The Autopsy of Jane Doe?! If not, then please check it out asap! The very best one of 2016, IMO!

Beauty and the Beast (2017)

You're pretty much getting exactly what it says on the box here...Despite a few tweaks here and there, it's essentially just the animated version blown up to live action. Solid cast, entertaining enough, but wholly unnecessary.

In the last 6 months I browsed all of the 872 pages here. First of all, let me give a big shout to Baron, DeadbeatAtDawn, hammerfan, Horcrux, roshiq, The Villain and others.

With the help of you lot I found I big number of movies that I saw and liked, while a lot more are in pending, waiting for me to see. Also, with your help I managet to find the name of one movie I was searching for, The Hidden and managed to see it.

Now, the reason I searched this forum, beside looking at the great movies you listed, it was that I was searching for a movie.

I saw this movie almost 17 years ago on the german tv station PRO7. I have no idea if it was german, italian or from hollywood. I just remember fragments:

It starts with a couple in train, they are alone in the compartiment, he pleasures her, then the train goes into a tunnel, all goes blank, when the light comes back in, he is dead on the front seat, while she is ~satisfied~ by someone with a dress with somekind of cleaver. The movie goes ahead and we see the same killer going into a familly house where he murderes a couple, while leaving their only daughter alive. Years pass, the girl is a woman now and the killings start again. The big twist is that the killer is actually the girl.

This movie might be absolutly gash, horrible, you name it, but the question of how is called haunted me for the past many years. If you experts have no idea what the movie is called, I might really give up. ::danger::

All the best,

Ringo

PS: I almost had a hearattack when I saw the forum was down for weeks and I was just into 451 pages. ::big grin::

Give this list a shot.....IF YA DARE....BWHAHAHAHA.........HA

Agreed.

I thought you'd have to be a teen to appreciate it, but it was very well made especially humor wise, and it certainly helped that Hailee played the main character, coz a different actor could easilly have made that character cringe worthy.

Christine (2016)

A moving film about Christine Chubbuck, a TV reporter struggling with career goals & personal depressions. A great character piece. Sad, Rebecca Hall even didn't get a nomination for this Oscar-worthy performance.

Basically a nod to both ANOES and Candyman. But it doesn't even hold a candle to either of them. Only Doug Jones does some semi-decent work as the titular character, rest are forgettable.

Avoid, if you can.

Another same Underworld flick. One way or another they are just nagging with the same old Lycans Vs Vampires concept in a more or less same manner. Like Resident Evil, I think this is another franchise that should even ended at the 3rd installment. But if you're a fan of earlier films, then you can give it a watch for the action parts at least.

For the most part - visually, everything was pretty impressive except for the Beast himself. He took me right out of it, never bought him as actually being a living thing, felt like Emma Watson playing against a cartoon most of the time. Which especially odd considering I didn't feel that way when she was interacting with any of the "inanimate objects" like Lumiere and Cogsworth...somehow they always seemed more real.

Dan Stevens was great though, shame the CGI worked against him.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 2017

Saw this with my little granddaughter today. I loved the palette of colors...the shimmering golds, etc. But I really only enjoyed the parts at the castle with her and Beast. Still a very nice version, though.

In one word - fantastic!

The ambience throughout the film was so densely creepy, you could cut a knife through it. Had a cheap jump scare very early in the film which made me go "Oh no! Surely not another one with those?!", but I am glad that I was proved wrong.
The whole film is built on a veritable bed of tenseness, so much so that you are left squirming and muttering "What the ****?!" under your breath most of the time. And the huge "Oh no, that didn't just happen!" scene at around the 50-minute mark adds to the sweating.
Just 2 major actors, but both of them owned the scenery. And of course, the beautiful yet achingly haunting Jane Doe.
When you end up chewing your fingernails, you know that you watched something which was really damn good. This has become one of my favorites from recent years.
Bring on a sequel as soon as you can, director of TrollHunter!

The Tilden father & son have a cat, which was apparently one of the few things left back by Tilden Sr's deceased wife.
It prowls around hunting mice, snarls by baring all it's teeth when Jane Doe is wheeled in for the autopsy, and is later found inside an AC vent.
Tilden Jr pulls it out, and then *that* happens.
