Just saw MI 3, it was... really, really, fun!
9/10 Some plot holes, and annoyances, convieniently placed cars, etc, but its an action movie, its ok, haha. It had some great fight scenes, lots of explosions etc, and is definently the best of the 3 MI movies. Very much worth a theater view. |
Tombstone
A public service announcement to anyone that hasn't seen this movie: Watch it now! I just saw it for the first time, and it's easily the best movie I've seen in months. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but, in my opinion, characters are likely the most important aspect of a film. That said, the characters here couldn't be better, each one has their own distinct personality, they all have moments to shine and, most importantly, they are all superbly acted. Top honours in that category go, of course, to Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday. Simply one of the best characters ever to grace the screen, no more needs to be said. Kurt Russell also did a very good job as celebrated lawman Wyatt Earp. The supporting cast are great as well, but these two certainly stand out...especially Kilmer. I wont get in to how great the plot is so that I don't spoil it. I'll just leave it at this: it's an enthralling story that will keep you glued from beginning to end, surprise you at times, and even saves time to make you laugh. Very well written, very well played out. Even the music is great, which is something that I often overlook. In conclusion, I'm a huge western fan. In fact, next to horror, I'd have to say they are my favourite genre of film. Despite being fairly recent, this film ranks among the best and has certainly earned it's spot as one of my favourite films. 9/10 |
Hmm, I actually didn't really like tombstone, but then again, I wasn't paying much attention, maybe i'll rent it sometime and try again.

I just watched When a Stranger Calls. I thought it was pretty good for a PG13 horror movie. Anyone else seen it?

into the sun .. starring big fat old steven segal.
this movie would have been a lot worse but they wisely concentrated on the excellent japanese actors in this one. |
Near Dark...
I loved it |
Solar Adventure. it was a mixed live action/anime.
|
-Blazing Saddles (10/10) You guys know how I feel about this one by now...
-The Village (Between snores.) From what I saw...it blew. |

Given that it was about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the gonads it wasn't lost on me! However I always feel the need to FULLY explain my actions, I think its a weakness. Just watched Near Dark for the first time in years. Contrary to myself, I love the way it doesn't have the need to explain the characters, they just are who they are with no convenient conversation filling in backgrounds. |

Last night I watched:
The Night Stalker (the telemovie). Lots of fun, I remember some of the series but have not seen the movie prior to last night. Well worth a watch. Love watching these old telemovies - the dramatic score rises as the picture fades out - cue advertisement break - then half a second later the next scene fades in with some equally dramatic music. Priceless. Followed that up with: Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror Hadn't seen this before, either. An early 80's Italian zombie movie, it has some interesting moments. Chiefly, the son of one of the female leads (obviously played by a jockey-esque adult) with an unresolved oedipus complex bites the nipple off his mother's left breast after he is transformed into a zombie. The ending, however, was sudden and I was hoping to see the final scene completed to its natural conclusion. Nevertheless the pace of the film was infectious, and despite (or perhaps because of?) the cheesy acting, minimalist plot, and marginal special effects (more obvious due to the very clean DVD reproduction), I was hooked. Will be worth a repeat viewing at some stage. |
War of the Worlds (remake)
Not a great movie by any means, but very entertaining nonetheless. The special effects were really amazing. Even though I don't normally put a whole lot of stock in them, I have to give Spielberg and Co. props for that. Is it wrong that I wanted the aliens to win? Overall: 7/10 |
Went to see "Slither".
Spent a bit too much time setting up/introducing characters for a horror movie of this kind, but when it got into it it was fun. Nice effects and makeup, it was funny and fucked up...although I felt it ended just when it was getting good. Nathan Fillion should be in more films like this, he seems right for 'em...If they ever adapted the walking dead to film, I'm sure he could handle the role of Rick pretty well... |

I watched Parents last night. Fairly decent movie. I think I prefer Society for the whole whats happening behind the picket fences kinda deal. |
Flash Gordon ..
showed this to a friend of mine so i saw it for the 20th time. I love this movie ,, gorgeous to look at, amazing Queen soundtrack, and actors gleefully dishing up the most deliberately corny lines you'll ever hear in one movie .. first rate nostalgic entertainment. |
I haven't seen flash gordon since I was a kid. Might have to give it a day in court seeing as there's a couple of cheap copies floating around.
|
i'd grab it in a second.
i dont think it's on DVD here (i havent seen it if it is) but i do have a nice widescreen laserdisc :) to really 'get' this movie it helps if you've read the comics from back in the day - you get a better sense of what they were shooting for re. the artistic vision ... i think this movie deserved some kind of award for set/fashion design. i always loved the title sequence as well. |
Just saw Hide and Seek. Not bad. I had thought the girl did it:)

Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain
This was a low budget film starring a couple of porn stars and Richard Greico. Not very good at all. There was a small amount of gore, but it looked shitty. Much less nudity than you'd expect with 2 female pornstars in the leads roles and the plot itself was pretty weak. All in all, save yourself some time and skip it. D+ When a Stranger Calls (remake) I almost liked this better than the original. It seemed to drag less and had a faster pace to it. I also liked the new re-telling of the story better than the old. The acting was fine, the direction was fine. The only missing was the gore, which was basically non-existent on screen. Overall, this was a pretty good remake of an average-to-begin-with film. C+ |

The Party
Being a big fan of Sellers, I've been wanting to see this for quite awhile. Though I cant agree with Urge that it's better than the Pink Panther films, it's still a hilarious, well acted and just all-around fun time! The beauty of the plot lies in it's simplicity: A bumbling Middle-Eastern actor (Sellers) accidentally blows up a Hollywood movie set, and is fired on the spot. On top of that, he is told that he'll never work in movies again! Of course instead of being blacklisted, he mistakenly gets invited to a high-profile Hollywood party, where he gets into all manner of hilariously absurd situations. Once he shows up at the party, there is no such thing as a plot. It's simply a perfect set-up for Sellers to get into tons of comic mischief. Sellers's character, Hrundi V. Bakshi, is great. Hillariously awkward like many of Sellers's comedic roles, but with a heart of gold and the best of intentions. Sellers delivers a great performance as this great character, as always. There a very few actors who are skilled enough to make the audience laugh by doing little more than standing still, but Sellers manages to pull it off. He even does great in a largely serious scene near the end of the film...simply put, the man is a genius and this film really shows it. Though overshadowed by Sellers's greatness, the supporting cast is great as well. The drunken butler was definitely a highlight, he made the dinner scene very funny. His fights with the head chef, who reminded me a lot of Dreyfus from the Pink Panther films, were hilarious as well. All the other characters had small roles for the most part, but everyone did great. Last but not least, Blake Edwards does a great job directing this film. The atmosphere of this film is just plain fun, and the way he chose to shoot certain scenes was great. Overall, this is a great film that shouldn't be missed. Like any good party, it's filled with laughs, a bit a romance, great characters and, most importantly, a lot of fun. It almost makes me wish I was alive in the 60's! 8/10 |
Has anyone else seen The Life and Death of Peter Sellers? I thought it was a really great movie. It was an HBO Original movie, and it really gave a different view to one of the great physical comedians of all time...I had no idea how dark of a person Peter Sellers really was...

Vampires Vs. Zombies
I'm sorry I wasted my time and money on this movie. I don't even understand what the hell was going on. None of it made sense, and the ending sucked pretty bad. Not on my "Watch Again" list. 2/10 |

The idea of Geoffery Rush playing multiple roles was brilliant I thought, and the imagery was very unusual.
