Child Eater, 2016. 6/10
![]() This had a great premise and a weird back story. The Child Eater had a eye disease that made him slowly go blind, so he thought if he ate peoples eyes it would cure him. The younger eyes the better. The killer looked cool, the storyline all over the place and the good parts shot in the darkness. http://img.cinemablend.com/cb/1/3/d/...4647e103d7.jpg |
Hush 2016 It was pretty decent. I enjoyed it overall.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
7/10 Description: "In 1967 Los Angeles, a widowed mother and her 2 daughters add a new stunt to bolster their seance scam business, inviting an evil presence into their home." Mike Flanagan co-writes and directs Oujia, also known for Hush and Oculus. The first 3/4ths of the film is really well done. I highly recommend the film for that alone. It feels like a fresh film take on some fairly well covered horror-subject matter ground. The directing, sound, story and characters are rich, warm and engrossing. The story and characters stay realistic, intelligent and relatable. However, the last quarter (ending rampage) of the film far exceeds familiar... Unfortunately, the ending was unimaginative and stock, purely physical, and having little to do with the principle themes of the film. I'd have to get into spoilers to specify, but let's say after the Priest talks to Mom and Sister in the bedroom, it's totally hack. I didn't necessary mind the extremely cliche identity and backstory of the evil apparition -- though it felt completely out-of-place in an otherwise very warm slice of suburban Americana setting -- but if writers Flanagan and Howard were actually going to use it, they should have really turned it on it's head, and integrated it into the story with a modern context. Rather, this evil's origin (and ending) felt completely disembodied from the rest of the film. The ending should have resolved the engaging emotional relationships of the family and Priest. It didn't have to have a happy ending, but it might as well have ended with Indian throwing a water fountain out a window. |
BEYOND THE GATES 2016
Two brothers reunite to pack up their missing father's video store. They find a VHS board game that seems to be connected to their father's fate. Meh-ish. A bit juvenile. |
The Wailing (2016)
Decent but there were a couple of things I didn't understand and the ending was a bit of a letdown too. Some sweet locations though. |

Dogtooth (2009) I.M.D.B. Three teenagers live isolated, without leaving their house, because their over-protective parents say they can only leave when their dogtooth falls out. What a bizarre movie. While interesting for the most part, it also felt somewhat pointless. There wasn't a satisfactory arc to the story or characters, but it was interesting, with a few memorable scenes. 7/10 |
Dreaming Purple Neon, 2016. 8/10
http://i.imgur.com/cFDNBKT.jpg Hahaha, wow..love this film. The ending reminded me of America after Donald Trump was made President. Magi, 2016. 3/10 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ivoWSX-PirU/hqdefault.jpg Utter garbage. |

Elle (2016) I.M.D.B. A successful businesswoman gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse as she tracks down the unknown man who raped her. Quite a good movie. The 'protagonist's' motivations are somewhat confusing, and I would hardly call it a 'game of cat and mouse' like the description. It certainly didn't go where I thought it would, which was refreshing. Worth checking out. 7.5/10 |
The Neon Demon. Gets better every time. Oddly, I love this movie but can see how it might not appeal to all Horror fans.

I agree that it doesn't appear to be fully formed, but the concept of disfunction and isolation are really well observed. Definitely worth a watch. |
A Room To Die For. 5/10
Strange old couple rent a room to a young couple. It doesn't take long before things start to get nasty. The film suffers from the limitations of budget restraints and some fairly wooden acting, although I warmed to the old couple, who reminded me of Sheila Keith & Rupert Davies in the excellent 1974 Brit movie Frighmare. https://s29.postimg.org/mwqdm0hg7/ha...2_1024x691.jpg |

Hacksaw Ridge
I'm a fan of this genre and this one is top notch. Kind of feels like one of those 60s war movies but the reality of war is ratcheted up to Saving Pvt Ryan level. Not for the faint of heart. Good job Mel |

Got a little too America-fuck-yea at the end. Makes me wanna hurl. But other than those last 30 minutes the movie was good. The intro before the army felt a little long tho. 7-8/10 |

But that's neat, man. I'm certainly envious, but also glad someone else enjoys this movie. I introduced it to my dad when I watched it and the first thing he said after the credits started rolling was 'I need to find this on DVD'. |

Muck (2015) has just started on the Horror Channel here in the UK. Nudity in the first 30 seconds is usually a sign of desperation in modern horror films. In the case of Muck it's probably the only thing that keeps people watching. I've sat through this movie before and don't wish to do it again, so i'm away to my bed. |

'Kong: Skull Island' (2017)
Plot: IMDB A diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers unite to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong. Phantom's Review: Let me say right at the beginning, I liked this movie. It delivers everything it promised. Decent acting, great special FX , monster fights and lots of big dumb action. If anything the film reminds less of the original film and more of the Japanese Kong movies. Leave your brain at the door and have a good time. |
Star Wars: Rogue One (2016)
B/C Not bad, but didn't think it was great or anything. It all seemed a bit forced and felt a bit like watching another one of Disney's superhero flicks. The female lead did a solid job. I think we might see more of her in the future. |
Rob Zombie's 31, which, to be polite, was not at all to my liking. I seem to either love RZ's stuff (Lords of Salem, House of 1,000 Corpses) or hate it, like this one.
