All Good Things (2010)
Meh, it was alright. Dramatised take on Robert Durst / the disappearance of his wife. Not a bad film in its own right, but having just binged through The Jinx (excellent documentary series on the same subject matter, by the same filmmakers) this was definitely a let down. |

I am Not a Serial Killer - the book was better, the movie is about a 6-7/10

Ginger Snaps
I watched this once in my teen years... I can't remember how early, possibly mid-teens, long enough ago I don't remember it too well. I do remember it was really intense. I didn't remember that part incorrectly. When you open up with a toddler playing in a sandbox with mutilated dog parts, it's safe to say the movie doesn't worry about holding back. Viewing this again as an adult, it still makes me squirm a bit. The relationship between the sisters alone is uncomfortable before Ginger gets bit. But the little things through the movie such as Ginger's physical changes without the moon (like growing a fucking tail) were just so awesome, it beautifully builds up for the ending when we get to see the movie's fully changed werewolf. And itsssss... a'ight. I mean it's not one of the more memorable such as American Werewolf in London, but like the rest of the movie it pushes the limit. Effects, filming, characters, story, it all builds up beautifully. I didn't understand the first time I watched it why it's a cult classic, but it's easy to say I do now. |

Roiffalo, what did you think the film was comparing with becoming a werewolf? In other words, what was the basic analogy? |

Just got home from a screening of The Autopsy of Jane Doe - great stuff, no doubt. Went in totally blind, aside from seeing it pop up on a bunch of "best of 2016" lists, which was the right choice. Deserves the praise it's been getting. I had some little nitpicks, but overall I thought it was really well done. |

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) I.M.D.B. A father and son, both coroners, are pulled into a complex mystery while attempting to identify the body of a young woman, who was apparently harboring dark secrets. An interesting concept that's fairly well done, but with some stereotypical 'scare' tropes needlessly mixed in. The presence of Brian Cox adds gravitas and almost disguises the fact it needed a more intelligent script. Worth a watch for the concept, just a shame more wasn't done with it, as it ultimately felt shallow. 7.5/10 |

Fear of a Black Hat (1993)
C Decent mockumentary about NWH (Niggaz With Hatz). Some good jokes here and there but overal CB4 does it better. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) B/C Rather weak sequel. Has its moments but I expected more from this. |

THE INHABITANTS 2015
Very creepy story of a young couple buying an old bed and breakfast in New England. Settings were beautiful with fog shrouded black and white forests scenes. There were parts that genuinely scared me and I didn't want to look, lol. My only complaint is that sometimes it was hard to make out what was going on because it was so dark. |

Killed some time this weekend with a couple of re-watches and a first viewing of something I should have swerved!
Neighbor - 2009. 1/10 No redeeming features...well, apart from America Olivo. http://bilder.hifi-forum.de/max/6616...ook_132636.jpg Livide - 2011. 6.5/10 Beautiful and atmospheric. Spoiled slightly by terribly translated subtitles. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...vid_Poster.jpg Tony - 2009. 8/10 Grim and depressing little movie, with an amazing performance from Peter Ferdinando, as Tony. http://www.geektown.co.uk/wp-content...10/01/tony.jpg |

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) (3D) I.M.D.B. When Jacob discovers clues to a mystery that stretches across time, he finds Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. But the danger deepens after he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers. What the fuck was this movie? A woman keeps a bunch of 'peculiar' children in a time loop forever, reliving the same day over and over, and she's not the villain of the story? Much of this movie was incredibly dumb. And Hollywood, please stop making Chris O'Dowd do American accents. 5/10 https://s23.postimg.org/cknp66piv/Star_Wars.jpg Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) (3D) I.M.D.B. The Rebel Alliance makes a risky move to steal the plans for the Death Star, setting up the epic saga to follow. Great movie! Looks spectacular, characters you end up caring about, nostalgic feels - a really good edition to the Star Wars movie-verse. A thoroughly enjoyable movie experience. 9/10 https://s28.postimg.org/v23c631o9/I_...etty_thing.jpg I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016) I.M.D.B. A young nurse takes care of elderly author who lives in a haunted house. A lot of build up with very little pay off. An easily forgettable movie because very little happens. All atmosphere and not much else. Some nicely written narration though. 6/10 |
Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Swiss Army Man
Excellent double feature - two very different takes on an unconventional partnership surviving in the wilderness. Wilderpeople was a solid watch, but Swiss Army Man has to be one of the most baffling, ridiculous and utterly satisfying movie watching experiences I've ever had. Totally unique and highly recommended. |
THE SHALLOWS (2016). While the plot is pretty basic, still a pretty suspenseful flick with better than average CGI and a decent performance by Blake Lively. ***1/2

Morgan (2016) I.M.D.B. A corporate risk-management consultant must decide whether or not to terminate an artificially created humanoid being. Mediocre. Kate Mara's performance is boring, Paul Giamatti's psyche assessment scene is baffling, and the movie never goes anywhere interesting. A few solid performances, namely from Rose Leslie (who's proving to be extremely talented) manages to keep it vaguely interesting. 6/10 |
Death Race 2050 (2017)
B/C Fast, violent and over the top. |
The Shadow
LOVE IT. Love everything about it. Or at least... I may be fangirl trash, but... God help me Alec Baldwin was one sexy mofo in this. Okay I know the story needed work, even from a non-comic reader standpoint, but on its own I thought it was very well done. Some mystery, couple of fights, bit of romance that wasn't complete garbage and a female lead that wasn't useless arm candy, Tim Curry as himself. It has several good points that I don't understand how this movie had gone under my radar all my life until I caught it on tv some years ago. I would've loved to have seen a prequel to this and this had been the sequel or something. Just so much about the Shadow's past that was very vague and went through quick. I like the whole diabolical tyrant going hero thing, but that had to be one hell of a transaction. What could they have possibly said to convince him to give up his murder habit?? And I gotta say the monk-like people who decided to train him in the first place wasn't too bright about deciding who to give knowledge of this god-like talent to. I wouldn't have been surprised if they had later asked Hitler to join the fold. ::roll eyes:: |
The Autopsy of Jane Doe - The first half would be a good episode of Supernatural or Constantine, with the pretty corpse, mystical diagrams, and Bible scriptures. The second half is a mess of jump scares, heartfelt speeches, and plot holes. To me it looks like the script was written by a committee, or it was revised after the start of filming. And I'm really tired of radios that create music on their own and exploding light fixtures. Those are less Supernatural and more like an episode of Friday the 13th - the Series. 7/10

Sauna (2008) I.M.D.B. As a 25-year war between Russia and Sweden concludes, two brothers who are part of an effort to outline new border accords become undone by their actions, and their mistreatment of a young woman during their journey. Interesting movie. Well shot, good dialogue and acting. Editing was strange, leaving me confused a lot. Maybe a repeat viewing would explain more, as I was generally confused as to what was going on. 6.5/10 |

The Daughter (2015) I.M.D.B. The story follows a man who returns home to discover a long-buried family secret, and whose attempts to put things right threaten the lives of those he left home years before. Eventually everyone becomes so incredibly unlikable it becomes tough to watch. Some good emotional scenes amid a torrent of frustrating character choices. Ewen Leslie does a great job in this movie, but ultimately the movie is frustrating and depressing. 6/10 |
13 Eerie
Not bad. Not great, but not bad. I expected a lot of horror cliches, but it actually surprised me a lot by not following (most of) them. The setting was pretty cool, an abandoned penitentiary, although you wouldn't know by looking at it. A group of CSI in training are examining dead bodies for a final exam are target of some left behind zombies from some inhuman experiments gone wrong on prison inmates. Highlight for me was a female character that wasn't completely useless. I give it... 3.7 stars |

There was a lot about this movie I didn't like, but the main thing was Miss Peregrine and her ilk. A handful of invisible but easy to kill creatures want to kill the children. Their answer to protect the kids is to keep them reliving the same day, never aging or leaving the island, for over 70 years (and going). And if they do decide to leave, the years will catch up and they'll be old, so they're fucked. How is that a reasonable way to protect them? How is she not the villain of the tale? It baffled me. |

Sweet Whip (2013) I.M.D.B. When Naoko was a freshman in high school she was kidnapped and imprisoned by a man who lived next door. For one month, she went through hell. Finally, she killed the man and escaped. Practically porn for the most part, and not good porn. Scenes drag on and on - such as her masturbating to the memory of getting raped, a scene which lasts - I shit you not - a whole 10 minutes! Some terrible acting. The whole movie feels pretty pointless. Not a good movie from director Takeshi Ishii. 3/10 |
The Bye Bye Man
I liked it, but......there was no back story for the bad guy, the story has basically been told before (Candy Man, Bloody Mary, etc.). But, the acting was decent, and the effects were good. 6/10 |
