I see you were watching AMC as well, my friend...
The Hitchcockathon was a blast...I have all the movies they showed on DVD, but there's something fun about seeing them on T.V. as part of a marathon.

I used to love AMC when they played movies uncut and no commercials, but now they screw things up too much.
But every now and then they show a few films I can't resist watching.
(even though I own them all)

Dracula (1958), at the cinema.

phantomstranger 10-31-2007 01:35 PM

"Curse Of The Undead" (1959)
The cinema's first vampire Western! Young women in a small Western town are dying one by one of an unknown malady involving massive blood loss. The Carter family's ranch is being terrorized by a ruthless land baron . And a mysterious black-clad gunfighter with an aversion to sunlight has just arrived in town. B-grade western with a twist: mysterious gunslinger-for-hire Drake Robey is really a vampire, and it's up to Preacher Dan to save the town and girlfriend Dolores Carter.

Vampyr. Bizarre little European flick from the 1930s.

jenna26 11-02-2007 12:42 PM

The Old Dark House ~ any movie that has an actor that can make the line "Have a potato" so amusing is good with me. Fun film. :)

The Rvenge of Frankenstein (1959)

Roderick Usher 11-06-2007 12:15 PM

Fall of the House of Usher (1928)

The French silent films of the late twenties have such a wonderfully romantic and surreal feel to them So very different from the expressionism of the Germans or the realism of the Americans and this Jean Epstein classic is one of the very best. An odd interpretation of the Poe story, this film is a marvel of mood and acting. The camera swirls and moves with and all around the actors. Superimposed images and brilliantly soft cinematography blend to create a slow-motion dreamworld. I cannot recommend this one highly enough to fans of silent film. Easily one of my favorites in the genre.

9/10

phantomstranger 11-06-2007 02:04 PM

"Frankenstein" (1931)

along with Lugosi's "Dracula" and Chaney jr"s "The Wolf Man" this film is the very definition of the term classic horror. A must see.

ChronoGrl 11-10-2007 12:49 PM

The Bad Seed (1956). Little gothic horror film based on a stageplay about a little girl suspected to be... Evil...

Fantastic writing and acting. Definitely creepy and a must-see.

Just finished watching "The Devil Doll" with Lionel Barrymore...For some reason shrinking people in a movie gives me the creeps..."The Incredible Shrinking Man" really disturbs me...It makes one feel , that if you were to become very small you would be insignificant, and at the mercy of others...Think,that's what the audience is meant to feel..

The_Raven 11-11-2007 11:21 AM

Son of Frankenstein. Classic stuff.

One of the greats (if not the greatest) of the Universal Horror classics.

The greatest horror film of all time, imo.

Definitely... And so incredibly alienated... The world just became too big for him (literally). Definitely speaks to feelings of isolation and alienation in an ever modernizing world.

Definitely made me feel oddly melancholy when I saw it when I was younger...

We have Night of the Hunter sitting on our counter (came in fresh from NetFlix). Should watch it soon.
