Bigfoot movies almost always entertain me, and this one definitely does.

I liked that one. Funny and suspenseful but i was disappointed with the ending

Completely with you on the humor and suspense, but we're miles apart on the ending, which I loved. Without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it, the finale of Willow Creek was provocative and just surprising enough to work for me.

A lot of shit eating in this one. Weird maniacal acting, like villains in a cartoon. Perhaps that was intended - excessive acting to fit with the theme of excess. There was just...way too much shit eating. It was interesting to watch, but in a rubber-necking-a-car-accident kind of way. It's interesting because it's weird. But I can't say I really enjoyed it.

The Possession of Michael King (2014)
I.M.D.B.
After poor advice from a psychic leads to the death of his wife, a man vows to disprove the existence of the paranormal by allowing himself to be possessed by demons.

Took me a while to get into it, as there's some awkward acting in the beginning. But I quite liked the idea of documenting the possession. There were a few too many sudden loud noises to make you jump, but overall it was enjoyable. Not a fan of possession movies so much, but I quite liked this one.

The Devil's Backbone (2001)
I.M.D.B.
After Carlos, a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War, arrives at an ominous boy's orphanage he discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets that he must uncover.

I've never been much of a fan of Guillermo's work. I find his movies somewhat mismatching - it's as though they're children's horror movies, but with the violence of an r rated movie. Often the background orchestra is light and almost playful which juxtaposes the fearful imagery on screen. It's almost as though his movies are conflicted, unsure of what they're meant to be. And I can never shake that feeling as I'm watching. This one was no different. While well made in many respects, I find the moments of fear and tension miss the mark.

enjoyed reading these reviews!

The Possession of Michael King sounds like a premise up my alley.

Totally agree on Backbone. Nicely shot, realy good cinematography, sound, very competent presetation of the story. I just didn't find it worthwhile... in that I found the story rather bland., slightly boring, not scary, barely suspenseful in a few spots, and a generally unimportant and unemotional story. I had a hard time caring both times I saw it.

I hadn't noticed the music issue. I really liked Guillermo's Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboys & Pacific Rim, but Mimic was a mess.

I always enjoy this one. There are some terrific voice performances. The entire cast is outstanding but Maggie Gyllenhall and Jon Heder are standouts.

Started on "Jay and Silent Bob".
Very stoned. Didn't get through it. Was dozy.
Though I have to say, I quite like the way they brought practically all the characters from the previous films back in one setting.

So many great guest roles, dialogue and such.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

Mike Flanagan never disappoints, even with a sequel (well, prequel) to one of the worst horror movies of the past few years. Flanagan's strong point is always his characters, and this is no exception. The acting is incredible, especially from the kids. Some good twists and scares too. Definitely recommend that you watch this and completely avoid the original. This stands alone as a quality horror movie.

'10 Cloverfield Lane' (2016)
-John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher jr

Plot: IMDB
Soon after leaving her fiancé Michelle is involved in a car accident. She awakens to find herself sharing an underground bunker with Howard and Emmett. Has she been saved from an apocalyptical event as Howard & Emmett tell her or are there other motives for her being held against her will?

Phantom's Review:
Like 'Halloween III: Season Of The Witch' or 'Curse Of The Cat People' this film is a sequel to 'Cloverfield' in name only. There are no giant monsters, screaming crowds or found footage. This instead is a well acted, claustrophobic drama. John Goodman is fantastic and plays his character both as very sweet and then terrifyingly creepy. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is perfect as the young woman trying to escape and John Gallagher jr nails his character and brings a bit of humor to a very dark movie. There is a twist ending that MIGHT connect the two films but you don't need to see 'Cloverfield' to see this film. I was surprised by how good this movie was. I highly recommend it, but like I said before, don't expect big special FX or screams and gore. Just good acting.

Just saw Doctor Strange.

Really good movie. Crazy visuals and some inventive action. The story was OK but I liked the characters. Really fun movie and felt very unique, honestly haven't seen a big budget movie with visuals like that.
A great stand alone Marvel movie.

Bad guy was a little weak and love interest was underdeveloped but I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.
One of the better superhero movies this year.
Also it's worth seeing in 3D IMAX if you get the chance.::wink::

In a Valley of Violence (2016)

https://s16.postimg.org/7va6d34bp/Valley.jpg

A western from Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers) & with a title like this, I was expecting a gritty & more action packed (with more characters of course) movie but it turned out quite simple & ordinary. There's nothing great or cool as a standalone indie Western flick. Disappointed.

Let the Right One In - not a bad movie, but completely spoiled by now. So many reviews gave away the entire plot. Probably a great movie if you've never heard anything about it.

Ya, it was interesting, different, and solid technically... but besides that, I just thought it was OK. I don't see good reason for the special acclaim, outside of the fact of a couple decades of little worthwhile competition.

Joshy (2016)
Very meh movie that doesn't know whether it's a comedy or a drama.

Finding Dory (2016)
Average. I expected more from this one. Best thing were the side characters.
Probably would've been better if they just got their own movie.

She Who Must Burn (2015)

http://s18.postimg.org/fhmrhldd5/She..._Burn_2015.jpg

Angela used to work at a local clinic that was shut down after its doctor was shot to death by an anti-abortion protester. Undeterred, Angela decides to run her counseling work at home where she provides basic services - something that puts her at odds with the rest of the anti-abortion protesters, mainly a group of religious fanatics who believes that she is performing abortions. They also believe that she;s to blame for recent infant deaths (implied to be due to water pollution), which they see as a sign of God's disapproval. Things are made more tense when Angela helps the wife of the Pastor (the leader of the group) flee an abusive marriage.

Quite a dark, disturbing & sad flick about the horror of religious fanaticism. The story is set on a community that's blinded by religious dogma and slowly unfolds the evil & horror within. Pretty well made & acted with a few disturbing & eerie moments also...particularly found that scene of the birth of a stillborn & the way they buried the baby was quite shocking & sad and the role of the woman who played the mother of the stillborn and a hardcore religious fanatic - kinda felt like demonically possessed at times.

Overall, a pretty good movie from Canada. Recommended.

The townsfolk think Angela is to blame for the infant deaths, cause they don't believe in pollution. And the Pastor hasn't stopped beating his wife, because of a dogma. Hmm... I'm sensing an Oscar here. ::wink::

HOWL 2015

A commuter train has broken down on a stormy night and the passengers must protect themselves from the unspeakable horrors of the forest.

The creatures were a little different from what you might have expected given the title and there was some pretty decent dark humour. I liked it.

Not great but certainly not bad either. Cage delivered a solid performance.
Probably his best movie in a while.
