Thumbs up for Dog Soldiers. Don't Breathe did indeed suck. If you haven't seen An American Werewolf in London, you really should. Skip An American Werewolf in Paris. I saw that at the dollar theater and wanted my dollar back. ::big grin::

But if you go in knowing that, I think it's petty cool. Budget, effects, actors & stunts are top notch. The story is ok. Having seen it in theatre and tv screen, I can tell you it loses a lot of impressiveness on the small screen. As I recall the ending really hurts an otherwise fun ride. I liked way better than annoying Salvation (though the FX were good). |
Children of the Night (2013) Strange little movie about vampire children. 6/10
Mutant Chronicles (2009) steampunk humans vs. mutants - not great 5/10 |

Killbillies, 2015. 7/10
https://scontent.ford1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...b4&oe=589E7D37 I kept passing on this, didn't realize it was an Artsploitation release. It was pretty good. |

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) Lots of issues with the acting and writing, but I kinda enjoyed it. The characters made really poor decisions, but the movie was entertaining. I liked the action, humor and story. Eva Green stole the show. |
ARQ
An inventor, his girlfriend and 4 home invaders stuck in a three hour time loop with ever increasing recollections of the previous time loops and the decisions they had previously made. More than a little of Live Die Repeat here but its definitely interesting to have several characters all remembering different scenarios as they try to find their own way out of the time loop alive. Set almost entirely in a small house, its dark and claustrophobic, decent enough performances and, at just 88 minutes, it doesn't outstay its welcome. Worth a viewing. |

Xmen Apocalypse (2016)
8/10 " After the re-emergence of the world's first mutant, world-destroyer Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan." After hearing a lot of bad reviews, I wasn't expecting much, but I really liked it. It's a film series, so if one hasn't seen the previous films, they will surely miss the nuances of the character performances, as well as the overall story. Like many superhero films, it's an action-adventure full of moral decisions, and full of social-spiritual-political symbolisms -- something director "we shouldn't have to" Singer does very well. I liked that the film made super-villain Apocalypse rather low-key, human and even personable, as opposed to some unrelatable bombastic megalomaniac thing. |
Don't Breathe (2016)
Doodoo I really don't get that there are people liking this. Some even call it realistic. Plothole spoiler "So the blind guy actually abducted someone." |
The Horde (2016)
http://gruesomemagazine.com/wp-conte...nt-820x410.jpg I enjoyed this 80's action hero vs the gang from Wrong Turn (with a scooby doo plot) film more than I should have. Navy Seal taggs along with his GF and her students camping trip. The Hills have Eyes crew show up and all hell breaks loose. Huge body count for this kinda film and the kills are kinda gory but are badly shot and lit. There are some murders straight outta RAMBO. Cameos from Vernon Wells (Wez from Mad Max 2) and Bill Moseley.. |
!!!HALLOWEEN HORROR MONTH!!! https://s14.postimg.org/3phj1brdp/Ghostbusters.jpg Ghostbuster (3D) (2016) I.M.D.B. Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat. Very fun and enjoyable movie. The jokes weren't hilarious but it was amusing enough with a few genuinely funny moments. Effects were good, as was the 3D. Fun popcorn movie with the occasional giggle. 8/10 FEATURING HORROR HOTTIE Chris Hemsworth https://s9.postimg.org/d0rd89x5r/Chris_Hemsworth.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/6q64zliep/ch..._saxophone.gif |

The Greasy Strangler (2016)
Strange but interesting enough to watch. Should've been called plain Greasy though. |
Krampus -
This is a strange one. It's a Christmas horror story. Perhaps better suited for winter. But also maybe a bit too dark for the holidays. In fact, I was concerned with how dark it was going as I thought I knew how it had to end because I assumed most Christmas stories of this sort have the same type of ending. Also, I didn't know Krampus was based off a real myth creature. It's a very good story and one I recommend seeing. Like Trick r Treat by the same director, Krampus is very good at establishing the season. And I thought Krampus was better than Trick r Treat until the about the halfway point. Also, I love the first shots of Krampus. I can't believe we still haven't seen a similar scene like that in a Batman movie. The actress who plays the mother is cool too. I've seen her in a few movies and tv shows before. I think the movie is probably perfect to watch right after Thanksgiving but way before Christmas. Quote:

Independence Day Resurgence.
Oy vey. SO bad. Plot holes all over the place. Stealing from other sci-fi films everywhere. Nothing good or redeeming. I would have turned it off 20 minutes in, but my mom wanted to finish and me to keep her company(was visiting). 1/10 |
DAHMER (2002). If you're looking for gore, You will be disappointed. This focuses more on the events/circumstances that led him down that path. Very good performance by Jeremy Renner. ***

Plus the original was already funny. So when you try to remake something that is already funny, and try to make it funnier, you end up getting crap. |

The Invoking 3: Paranormal Dimensions (2016)
https://s13.postimg.org/e515uzvc7/Invoking_3.jpg This low budget horror anthology is more like a handful collection of horror shorts. Not bad...found couple of them quite decent actually. >>: B- Patient Seven (2016) https://s10.postimg.org/l1u3dymrt/image.jpg >>: C+ |

!!!HALLOWEEN HORROR MONTH!!! https://s13.postimg.org/4kwgw4fsz/120_days.jpg 120 Days of Sodom (1975) I.M.D.B. Four fascist libertines round up nine adolescent boys and girls and subject them to one hundred and twenty days of physical, mental and sexual torture. A lot of shit eating in this one. Weird maniacal acting, like villains in a cartoon. Perhaps that was intended - excessive acting to fit with the theme of excess. There was just...way too much shit eating. It was interesting to watch, but in a rubber-necking-a-car-accident kind of way. It's interesting because it's weird. But I can't say I really enjoyed it. 5/10 https://s10.postimg.org/7kw209en9/Th...cheal_King.jpg The Possession of Michael King (2014) I.M.D.B. After poor advice from a psychic leads to the death of his wife, a man vows to disprove the existence of the paranormal by allowing himself to be possessed by demons. Took me a while to get into it, as there's some awkward acting in the beginning. But I quite liked the idea of documenting the possession. There were a few too many sudden loud noises to make you jump, but overall it was enjoyable. Not a fan of possession movies so much, but I quite liked this one. 7/10 https://s11.postimg.org/by1bsqcjj/Th...s_Backbone.jpg The Devil's Backbone (2001) I.M.D.B. After Carlos, a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War, arrives at an ominous boy's orphanage he discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets that he must uncover. I've never been much of a fan of Guillermo's work. I find his movies somewhat mismatching - it's as though they're children's horror movies, but with the violence of an r rated movie. Often the background orchestra is light and almost playful which juxtaposes the fearful imagery on screen. It's almost as though his movies are conflicted, unsure of what they're meant to be. And I can never shake that feeling as I'm watching. This one was no different. While well made in many respects, I find the moments of fear and tension miss the mark. 7/10 |

Yea, that one was all over the place and the two lead actresses wasn't very good. I really haven't got any positive things to say about it other than it was fairly entertaining, in a Clerks kinda way. 5/10 |

Willow Creek
Bigfoot movies almost always entertain me, and this one definitely does. |
THE SKELETON KEY (2005). Although I find Kate Hudson as irritating as Tom Cruise/Julia Roberts, this is still a pretty decent flick. Some genuine suspense and worth checking out. ***
