Back to the Future
How do you review one of the best, most famous comedies of all time? What is there that hasn't already been said? I suppose I could comment on how amazingly well-written the plot is, how everything fits together perfectly and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Or, I could mention how hilarious it is; the subtle jokes like Lone Pine Mall, the absurdity of some of the characters, the expression on Crispin Glover's face. Perhaps I could say how incredible the effects are, and say how great it is that they still hold up today. After that, I could say something about how these are the characters that Micheal J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd will always be remembered for. That would link in to the fun 80's soundtrack. Then I could end the review by saying how much I love the ending, how it almost makes you want to grab the sequel of the shelf right away. Oh well, I guess it's all been said before... 9/10 |

Scream
*Huge Spoilers* I'm probably the last horror fan on Earth to see this movie, and I'll admit was wasn't expecting much. Amazingly enough, it was worth the wait! As I expected, the smug attitude was really annoying, but not as bad as I expected. Another thing I didn't like was the supermarket scene. How stupid can it get? Dressed up like that in a supermarket, the day after a double murder. Nobody's going to notice that (heavy sarcasm). I though the ending was really cool though. I had the twist partially figured out, but I really didn't think it was Billy. I did figure there was more than one killer, but I fell for the obvious red-herring of Randy...I guess I just underestimated Craven, didn't think he'd twist it too much. The deaths were great, I especially liked Tatum's death, though the scene leading up to it was pretty stupid. Overall, this was surprisingly good, though Craven's smugness does get pretty bothersome. 8/10 |
Yah, Return, I love Scream. I think it's one of the movies that gets the most unfair categorizing.
Anyway, I watched A Clockwork Orange last night for the gazillionth time. |
Werewolf of London
I started watching this once, and fell asleep within the first 10 minutes. Today I decided to watch it properly, and I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as Universal's later "The Wolf Man", but still a good film in it's own right. Henry Hull made a good werewolf, though he wasn't nearly as easy to sympathize with as Cheney Jr.'s later portrayal. I really liked the plot, very different than most werewolf flicks. I especially liked the fact that there were two werewolves present, though we only get to see one transform. Most of the transformations were pretty run-of-the-mill, but the walking transformation was phenomenal. This film's main flaw was it's pacing; even at barely over an hour in length, it seems to drag on very badly. Overall if you're a fan of werewolves, this early feature is a good one to check out. 7/10 |
Beetlejuice
Considering Im a huge fan of Tim Burton, I knew Id like this before I even popped it in the DVD player. I dont really know why I put off seeing it for so long, but Im glad I finally got around to it! The whole film has that great Burton style that we all know and love, only perhaps a touch more macabre than usual. Keaton completly steals the show in a relativly small role as the title character, a rude, crude, self-proclaimed "Bio-Exorcist". The effects are amazing, the various hauntings looked great! Baldwin and Davis both did great in their roles, especially near the end. All the creatures and charaters from the afterlife were very cool. My only gripe with this movie is how long they waited to introduce the title character. Not a huge problem, but I would have liked to see more of Keaton. Overall if you're a fan of Burton don't go any longer without seeing this movie! 8.5/10 |

I saw Red Eye last night. I thought it was a decent movie. I don't know what it is about Cillian Murphy but he is creepy-looking.

Dead End
Wow. I never thought that I'd be creeped out by someone singing Jingle Bells. This right here folks is a great, scary, intelligent horror flick. Ray Wise always does a great job, and this time he headed up a whole cast of above-average actors. The characters were pretty good, though I'll admit that Richard AKA "Comic Relief Jackass" got on my nerves pretty quick. The plot was very, very good...borrowed a bit from other movies, but overall it was pretty original. There were some very tense moments, and I will admit to being more than a bit freaked out near the end. The twist at the end wasn't too hard to see coming, but it was still very well done and leaves a lot up to your imagination. There was one thing that bothered me though. Films such as the original Amityville, Blair Witch Project, or even the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre profited from not showing the viewer everything they wanted to see. In those films, it was done very well and created a lot of tension. That doesn't work for this film though...at one point, they're all standing around something commenting on how disgusting it is. The camera is looking up at the family from the "thing"'s point of view while they all stare at it, not done well at all. That wasn't a huge problem though, it didn't happen too often. One thing that didn't bother me, but would bother a lot of people was the pacing. This movie is VERY slow in parts, however it needed to be. If you don't like slow movies, this might not be for you. Overall though, this is a very creepy and atmospheric movie that comes highly recommended by me. Check it out! 9/10 |

Epoch: Evolution
Having watched and enjoyed Epoch last week, I was looking forward to this. It wasn't too disapointing, but the first one was definatly better. The actors were actually worse than in the first, which is quite a feat. The plot was somewhat interesting, but once again not nearly as good as the original. The director took this in a much more religious direction, which I think was a very bad idea. The introduction of Mason's kid was a horribly contrived plot point, that lead up to a horribly predictable conclusion. It wasnt all bad though...the Torus's looked as good as ever, and I quite liked the idea of an "evil" Torus. Overall this is worth watching if you're a fan of the first one, but dont be expecting much. 5.5/10 |

Air Force One- 4/5
Not too bad for an action flick on a plane. These usually don't go over too well for me. Currently watching Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Nothing beats a classic! |

Skeleton Key....I really liked this one...Kept me guessing...I had a little over half of it figured out before the end, instead of ALL of it in 15-20 minutes....So, yeah...Really good

Pet Sematary
First time seeing this, and I have to admit I liked it. It was pretty close to the book, and I thought some of the flashback scenes were pretty creepy. |
Back to the Future Part II
Though not as good as #1 by any means, this is definatly a worthwhile sequel. Fox and Lloyd both reprise their characters, and do just as good a job as in the first. Biff is without a doubt one of the most easily hated film characters of all time, and he's worse than ever this time around. The plot is ingeniously complex, though that makes it hard to follow at times. I love how it ties in with Part 1 so incredibly well, the writers did a great job. Zemeckis's directing was pretty cool in some parts aswell. Overall, this is a pretty good sequel to an all-time classic. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one too. 8/10 |
The Benchwarmers- 3.5/5
Though not great or hilarious by any means, Benchwarmers does get some cheap laughs in and does send you home with a warm feeling (and I'm not talking about the piss in your pants). Of course, since this movie only recieved 3.5 out of 5 stars, there are some flaws. First off, the Howie character (who is afraid of the sun and has had himself locked inside for the past six months) was overrused and didn't belong in the movie. I'll admit, I laughed at him once in awhile, but I couldn't shake the feeling that he belonged in a different movie. I also didn't like Gus's backstory (which I will not reveal for the sake of the people who will go see it), but I did find it mediocore and a slap-in-the-face with what the story was about. Lastly, the immaturity of the coaches on the other little league teams was pathetic and unfunny. I know at that age you could still be a bully to others around you. But, to do it in teh same way as you did in grade school, and with the worst insults, just doesn't work and makes the movie falls apart. But, not all is lost (obviously). Like mentioned before, it did hit the funny bone. Maybe not in an effective way (like Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector did (yeah, so sue me, but I liked it)). But, it did get the job done. And the physical comedy worked out really well. Then again, what do you expect from Adam Sandler? But, my favorite part about the movie is David Spade. I don't know what it is, but Spade usually makes me laugh. Maybe it's because he makes fun of himself for being so skinny and weak, even if he doesn't actually show it. All in all, The Benchwarmers was a nice seat in the dugout, and it did put a nice, little smile on my face. |
Back to the Future Part III
This was a great way to close off a classic trilogy. Though it obviously wasnt on par with the first, I think was was almost as enjoyable as Part 2. The plot was much less complicated, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's a good thing because it's much easier to wrap your head around, however it shows that the writers were more concerned with finishing the series than making another classic. The majority of the cast reprise their roles, and are all as great as ever. The Clara character was kind of annoying, but I can forgive that because she was important to the plot. I liked the ending, great way to end the series. Last but not least, what western fan such as myself wouldnt love the Good, Bad and the Ugly reference! Overall this was a fitting end to a great trilogy. Probably the weakest of the three, but that's definatly not a bad thing. 7.5/10 |
*The Maltese Falcon*
A gem, of course. Not only one of the greatest Bogart films (second only to Casablanca), but a great cast all around- including Elisha Cook, Jr. and one of my other favorite actors, Peter Lorre. |

Chicken Little
Meh... This was a semi-entertaining CGI film, but these types of films are really losing their sense of awe. I remember back when Toy Story and Antz came out and it didn't even really matter if the plot was there because the film were just so visually fresh, it was something cool to watch. Now, these are starting to get somewhat stale and aside from Finding Nemo (Which was great) I haven't seen one in the last several years that really impressed me. This one was okay, but nothing special. If you got little kids, they'll probably like it. C Invasion of the Body Snatchers I thought this film was great! I was pretty much in to this from start to finish. Well acted, good plot, good suspense. All around great movie. A- The Gate A pretty cheesy PG-13 horror from the mid 80s about a kid (Stephen Dorff) accidently opening a Gate to Hell. It's not horrible, but it is PG-13 and that means they didn't do as much as they coulda with the gore. The main actors all do alright, but the friends of Dorff's sister are both TERRIBLE actors. The plots pretty basic, gore is minimal, actings okay. D+ |
