Watched "Green Room" the other night.
Having spent much of my younger days in the "alternative" scene (lots of skinheads, punks, etc. around at the time) as well as playing in bands, it was fun to watch a movie with that culture as a backdrop. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I really liked it. :) |

Shallows (2016) I.M.D.B. A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills. Enjoyable. CGI is a little dodgy in places which detracted from the tension of the scenes, and the shark attack jump scares were predictable and ineffective, but the woman vs the shark aspect as well as the character's medical background kept things interesting. Overall an enjoyable shark monster movie. 7/10 https://s10.postimg.org/d91i5g6cl/The_Pact.jpg The Pact (2012) I.M.D.B. As a woman struggles to come to grips with her past in the wake of her mother's death and the disappearance of her sister, an unsettling presence emerges in her childhood home. Effectively creepy. Supernatural elements are a tad stereotypical, but there's some genuine scares to be had, and overall is a very well made, entertaining scary movie. 7/10 https://s14.postimg.org/v2uj1vsvx/Megan_is_Missing.jpg Megan is Missing (2011) I.M.D.B. Fictional drama based on actual events, about 2 teen-age girls who encounter an internet predator. Tried twice to watch this one. Couldn't make it. Acting was atrocious, the actor's ages were all over the place, dialogue was terrible, scenes were not believeable - couldn't finish. Not Watchable |

The Disappointments Room (2016) "A mother and her young son release unimaginable horrors from the attic of their rural dream home." By no means is this a bad movie, it's just... flat. It seemed like they were going for the next The Others with the minimalist scares and reliance on atmosphere, but there wasn't enough story to make the tension rise. It's difficult to talk about anything particularly good or bad about this movie. There was an obvious effort to make a spooky haunted house movie, but the director, DJ Caruso, just lacked the skill to make one. It's a movie that just kind of exists. 5/10 |

I don't mean to be contrary to your review. Actually, I agree with all the specifics in your review, except the conclusion, that is. The lead was interesting enough, and I didn't bail on it, but I was getting bored about half-way through, and thought the climax was underwhelming and very brief, (not to mention pretty far fetched and a bit hokey, which was a bit out of place with a rather realistic -- almost a "Gravity" stark realism film). I didn't think the suspense was effective, which was basically its bread-and-butter; as it wasn't funny, ironic, profound, inspiring, fun, action-packed or scary. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The Neighbour (2016) I.M.D.B. Set in Cutter Mississippi, the film follows a man who discovers the dark truth about his neighbor and the secrets he may be keeping in the cellar. Marcus Dunstan and Josh Stewart brought us one of my favourite horror's of 2009, The Collector. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this movie anywhere near as much as that one. There's nothing really special or particularly interesting happening here. While the movie is well made and enjoyable enough, it's ultimately forgettable and instead had me longing for The Collected, a movie already written that will, unfortunately, most likely never be made. 7/10 |
GET SHORTY (1995). Quite intricate with a lot of characters to keep up, but is still a favorite with John Travolta shining as a movie obsessed Loan Shark who goes to LA to collect a loan. On the way, he meets a B Movie Producer (Gene Hackman reminds me a lot of Roger Corman, although Rog had more success), romamces a Scream Queen, tangles with two drug dealers as well as tangle with a mobster-Dennis Farina is a delight as the stupid, violent and foul mouthed hoodlum. With aplomb Humphrey Bogart would have envied, he wraps it all up without breaking a sweat. *****

Hmm, Serial Killer likes it, so if you do too I'll have to give it a look. You both can't be wrong! ::wink:: Let us know when you watch, Hammer. I just watched Green Inferno for the second time. The first time being in the theater. Still an enjoyable little romp with lots of body parts and humor,...and that soundtrack! :) |

Demon 2015
Piotr comes to his fiance's home town to marry her. None of his family comes, not that its relevant. Just thought it strange. Anyway he starts acting strange after discovering human bones. Uses jewish myth of the dybbuk. Its an odd film. Mixes humor, laments, love, desperation. It also is like a mixing of 80's style horror, modern indie cinema, polka music, a lot more, but it'd be better to watch it and see than me tell you more. Its really really good. Not kidding, seriously. You must see it. Amazing film. If you do see it let me know what you think. I want to see if someone else agrees with me on what happened. Side note: The director killed himself in his hotel room at a festival his film was in. 8/10 |

Its difficult for me to get around, disabled and all that, so its not often I can get to a theater. Its out in some theaters currently I think. Probably just in cities at 'art house' film theaters. Anyway, so I sometimes have to download a torrent/film to see it. And I have restrictions on films I'll pay to see, this would be one of them though.
OK anyway if you're ok with torrenting Demon can be found here: https://cinemaz.to/movie/10546-demon |

Sexy Killer - 2008
Underrated, stylish and genre bending Spanish slasher. Great kills, nice blood and splatter and wickedly funny. I'm always surprised at how little attention this movie gets. |
