Just watched Alien, for the god knows how many time. Still a fantastic film, but the alien does look a bit like a bloke in a suit towards the end.

Curdled

This was a really nice surprise. A dark, off-beat and peculiar film with a few laughs and alot of violent subject matter (However, there is little onscreen violence.) Quentin Taratino's company put it out and he got the Executive Producer billing for it so if you like QT's stuff, this is along those lines and I don't think you'll be disappointed. (He did not write or direct it though.)

There's also a nice Dusk Til Dawn reference in there for those that are watching closely.

B+

The Brothers Grimm

Well, I had heard bad things about this so I didn't have my hopes up. That being said, it didn't exceed my lowered expectations, nor did it disappoint them. The imagery was pretty cool but the story itself was rather bland. All in all, I felt this film coulda been done a LOT better than it was, but it wasn't terrible.

C-

Session 9

I didn't seem to like this as much as most people here. It was okay, but I didn't really find anything too special about it.

C+

The Gift

This movies only saving grace was the all-star cast and Katie Holmes knockers. Cate Blanchett, Keanu Reeves, Katie Holmes, Greg Kinnear and Giovanni Ribisi, (also the guy that played Schillinger on Oz) make this a very well acted film but the plot was pretty stupid and fairly predictable. They tried to throw a couple twists in to the end, but it was also fairly predictable.

I don't know... If you are in to psychic thrillers or you haven't already seen a dozen other movies with similar twists atthe ends, you might like it. I wasn't crazy for it.

wow ..

one of the most though provoking, suspenseful, tense, creepy, well acted films in the genre i've seen in years. If i used an ABC rating system it'd be an A+

Certainly heads and shoulders above your other 2 C's

i thought the Gift had one of the most predictable endings of all times..a very pedestrian effort all around.

no way at all in the same ballpark as session 9

HighwayMen

I have had this film for months but just not got round to viewing (I could say this about a whole crate of movies I got stashed away) but hell, I decided on Highwaymen and well what can I say? If you are like me and think that you can't get better (in these kinda movies) than Duel and the Hitcher...I did like the recent effort Roadkill but this effort I just didn't get into like the rest. I thought the bad guy was a bit pap to say the least.

An average film with a plot seen so many times before...

5.5/10

CopyCat

I really like this movie. Straight from the acting, the plot and the overall feel of the film establishes it as one of the better thrillers out there. Unlike alot of films like this it refers to all real life serial killers ( Dahmer, Gacy, Ramirez, Bundy, Hillside Strangler etc) which I thought was a good touch. Sigourney Weaver plays her part well - check out those panic attacks!! All in all a good 2 hours viewing.

8/10

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Now as the Exorcist is my fave movie of ALL time I was quite excited about seeing this. After seeing peeps reviews on here though i realised that my excitement may be soon dashed so, as I placed the DVD in my player I tried not to build this up only to be very disappointed. I have to say if you are after a truly scary possession film or a gory film then this film which just be one big let down But - I did enjoy this one. I thought it was well acted and the courtroom scenes held my attention well. I did enjoy this film, yes it could have been scarier but for me it did create a good debate afterwards and was good viewing.

Overall, certainly not the standards of an Exorcist but a good movie in it's own legal right.

7.5/10

Panic Beats

Continuing my Paul Nashy season (not to mention I am trying to get in the mood for Espana seeing as I will be there come Sunday for my jollies) I plumped for Panic Beats rather than Rojo Sangre (next on my list). I enjoyed School Killer (another Naschy effort from Spain) so had high hopes for this one and although typically cheesy and very 80's I yet again enjoyed this effort. Absolutely cram packed with gore without many scares I found this to be a good additon to my collection. Worth a look

He really shows the human side of drug dealers and gangsters, especially when you meet Denny's mom and family. Takeshi is one of my favorite Japanese directors and actors.

Donnie Darko...Pretty good

Red Eye...Really good...But, not great

Shattered...I had to watch this one because Dustin had never seen it...And I have ALWAYS loved it...Whatever you THINK you know while you're watching this, you are wrong...As it unfolds in the last 20 minutes, it makes you think back over the entire movie to put all of the pieces together...It's awesome

Alone In The Dark...Pretty good...But, not great...

The Cave...I ended up really liking this one...a LOT

Urban Legends 3...The series is definitely 'slowling down'...

Love Object...Hmm...Not what I was expecting...Not really too good, but I'm glad I finally watched it

Riding The Bullet...Bought it because it was a King...Not too bad, but a lot was added that wasn't in the book

The Fog (original)...Always great

The Fog (remake)...I noticed that they left out quite a few things from the original in order to make room for the 'Elizabeth' storyline...The girl who played the radio DJ, had NOTHING on Adrienne Barbeau...The kills were a LOT better than the original...It was a good movie overall

Watching the original and the remake back-to-back was a lotta fun:)

I dunno - he was alright, I just didn't get into this movie as much as I hoped I would...maybe on a second viewing I will re-assess my rating, I was just left a little disappointed on first viewing and it doesn't compare to films like Duel to me. However I will watch again sometime and hopefully will get more out of it then.

Yeah, it was better than Brothers Grimm or The Gift, but I didn't especially like any of the 3. Both of those other two coulda been borderline D+ but the all star cast pulled THe Gift from the Ds for me. Plus Katie Holmes topless cant be all bad.

Anyways, Im not exactly sure why I didnt love Session 9 like everyone else around here does. I actually found Curdled quite a bit more enjoyable and was debating whether or not to give that one an A-.

maybe too much positive hype built up your expectations and the film went in another direction than you were anticipating.

if that was the case it would be wise to see it again ..
often a second viewing under those circumstances ends up with a completely different outlook on the film.

Jericho Mansions

Without a doubt this is the best movie that I've seen in a very long time. The Story centers around the agoraphobic, amnesiac superintendent of an apartment building called, as you guessed, Jericho Mansions. When one of the residents is murdered, dark secrets come out and wounds from his past are reopened. What secrets do the walls of Jericho Mansions contain?

To avoid spoilers, that's the best I can give you for plot. Kept in guessing until the very end in true thriller fashion. For a change the twist ending was completely unexpected and very well done. All the actors, especially James Cann, gave great performances. I do wish some of the characters had more screen time, but that wasn't a huge problem. The CGI effects left a lot to be desired, but the idea behind them was pretty good.

Overall this is a great mystery that sucks you in right from the opening. I found it in a bargain bin for $5, and if you happen to be browsing through just such a bin I highly recommend picking this up. Amazing film that deserves alot more recognition.

Derailed

Not a bad movie really, didn't surprise me like I'm sure it intended to with the little twists and turns it made but it was still pretty well done. A little too long with the character development before things get going though.
