A History of Violence
I honestly feel that this movie is good, but overrated (sorry kung-fu-jesus). Don't think that it's more of a Drama than a Action/Thriller. But that wasn't it. I went in expecting more of a Drama than anything. I was just disappointed a bit with the outcome. I wasn't mesmerized or enthralled by the plot, only just somewhat interested. This is probably because I went in with high expectations (I have a bad case of doing this a lot). I still enjoyed it, and would watch it again. Just not in awhile. The only advice I can give to somebody who's going to watch this is to not go in with high expectations, because you may or may not come out happy with the outcome. 3 out of 5 stars. |
For fans of "Dead Alive", "Shaun of the Dead", "Reanimator" i bring you "EVIL ALIENS".
Sure the title sucks, which is why i didn't expect much. A nice little British horror/comedy that starts off kinda slow......but when it takes off....look out, heads will fly as well as various body parts. Pick this one up if you come across it. http://www.contentfilm.com/images/po...vil_aliens.jpg |

The Thing
Ive watched this many times in the past, but this is the first time I really realised what a masterpiece it is. This is easily one of the greatest horror films of all time, bar none. Everything about this movie comes together perfectly, not a single minute seems out of place. Everyone praises the gore and special effects, which certainly are amazing, however I think the real highlight of the film is the characters. Though it does get confusing at first with so many characters, it's worth it. They all bring a unique personality to the film, they all give it that extra dimention that so many horror films lack. MacReady, played by Kurt Russel, was amazing, one of the all-time great horror heroes. Just when you think the film can't get any better, Joh Carpenter gives us one of the coolest endings that Ive ever seen. I wont spoil it incase any of you havent seen it yet, but I love how open ended it is. This film is a perfect example of John Carpenter's genius as a filmmaker, contrary to some of his recent work. I find giving a film a perfect score looks bad, but this is one of few that deserves every point I can give it. 10/10 |
Devil's Rejects
Good performances by the 4 central characters, though I wasn't quite sure who I was supposed to feel sympathy for, if anybody. Aside from the family (in the hotel, not the Fireflys), everybody pretty much deserved what they got. Hell of a soundtrack, too. 4/5 |

The Hitcher - Still a fuckin' amazing film. Rutger Hauer is a really relentless creepy motherfucker in this one.

-Office Space (5th or 6th time)
-House of 1,000 Corpses (3rd time) Both good films. |

King of the Ants (2003, Stuart Gordon)
Surprised me, accidently flipped to it on one of the HBO or Cinimax channels and it sucked me in. I hadn't heard of this one for some reason but I really ended up liking it. I think I'm going to pick this one up on DVD now, worth owning in my opinion. |

I watched this one with my girlfriend last night, and although it isn't the type of film I'd normally be interested in, I was quite surprised at the quality. Ralph Fiennes does an excellent job in his role as usual. The story (about conspiracies among pharmaceutical companies) is really quite compelling, and it kept me glued to my seat until the final frame. Overall: 8/10 |
Flight of the Phoenix [2004]
From a big budget Hollywood film, there are a couple thing that you can expect: Half-decent actors and good basic CGI. Despite being a big-budget Hollywood film, this had neither. The view from the cockpit looked about as realistic as the driving in old sit-coms does. Dennis Quaid usually gives an OK performance, but mostly due to the awful script he is pretty bad in this one. Really, I think the script was the biggest downfall of the whole movie. The characters had no depth whatsoever, most of the lines was awful, and it even made actors that are typically very good look very, very bad, EX- David Quaid and Hugh Laurie. The only somewhat well written character was one of the least likable characters I've seen in a very long while. The action moves way to fast, there is no time what-so-ever for anything to develop. Plot items are introduced, then forgot about entirely. This movies doesn't even work as a mindless time-killer, I don't recommend it in the least. After seeing this, I'm more worried than ever about The Omen remake. They are directed by the same person...all I can say is be afraid. Be very afraid... 3.5/10 EDIT- Added a couple lines + Typos |
Didn't want to quote returns massive review, but i agree completely. I didn't like that movie very much at all, and they *spoiler* ending where they got away on that plane was retarded. 3/10 for me.
The Cave ummm.... this was a movie? 0/10 |

Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire
I watched this last night when I was baby-sitting the kids, and, as far as kids flicks go, this wasn't that bad. Well, I enjoyed it more and less because I'm a Scooby-Doo fan. Hell, I just found my little collection of Scooby-Doo videos last Saturday, and have been watching some of the tapes this past week. And, for the kids to pick this out to watch to fall asleep to was cool for me. I found myself enjoying the hour-plus of this Scooby-Doo movie, and am glad to see that the people who provide their voices to the characters sounding a lot like the original cast. This is a good watch if you have kids, or still watch Scooby-Doo. 4 out of 5 stars |

we have that one - and a ton of other s-d movies. my kid likes this one ... the australian accents drive me nuts |
I just saw Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Being a huge fan of FInal Fantasy 7 this was obviously astounding. It's great to see all my favorite characters fleshed out.
The story was a little convuluded (sp?) and not always completley sensical but still a hell of a lot of fun. There was a mini convention here in Waterloo, free with a special showing. Kick ass. |
Little Shop Of Horrors (1986)
This flick is great made me grin lots and had me tapping my feet. "I am your dentist......." :D |
A Different Loyalty
For me, the biggest thing that can make or break a movie is it's characters. The characters in this film, however, had about as much depth as a Kleenex. For the first half hour or so of the film, I found myself thinking "Who cares?". Basically, we're introduced to two people who meet and fall madly in love....in the first 5 minutes of the movie. No character development to speak of, and they certainly didn't change or grow during the course of the movie. Everett and Stone had zero chemistry, so the love scenes just looked forced and awkward. On top of all this, the film had no flow to it what-so-ever; it cut back and forth so quick and so often it was hard to keep track. Somehow it did manage to keep my attention throughout, so I guess that buys it a few points....but in general, this is a very poor film. Don't bother wasting 100 minutes of your life, watch something else. 2.5/10 |

Manhunter
Ive been waiting a long time to watch this film, and by God was it worth the wait. This is a film that has many great elements converging together, and there are very few weak parts. The performances are what really elevate the film though, William Patterson is phenominal, as is Brian Cox and the rest of the supporting cast. Though I still think I prefer Hopkins as Hannibal, Cox did a great job as the first person to breath life into the classic serial killer. I was also very impressed with Tom Noonan as Dollarhyde, made the character very convincing and almost pitiful. Great performance. The plot had some very nice and unexpected twists, especially near the end. Speaking of near the end, the use of Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was incredible. I will never hear the song the same way again. To some up, I say check this out if you want to see some great acting, hear some great music, and experiance a side of the story that Red Dragon neglected. 8/10 |

PS- A rather creepy coincidence. I turned off the the DVD player when this movie was over, and what was on the TV? Red Dragon, about half-way through. I decided to flip channels for a bit before coming on here, and what did I find on one of the French channels? Silence of the Lambs. I swear if I found Hannibal on TV somewhere I think I would have passed out... |
Irish Jam
Eddie Griffin really needs to take a good role soon. Sure, I had some fun watching him in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalow, but that's about it. I just wish he wouldn't have accepted the role in Irish Jam. Hell, I wish Irish Jam wouldn't ahve been made. But, I know there's somebody out there who can contradict my opinion. Anyway, story goes a little something like this. Eddie Griffin plays Jimmy, a south-central... hell, I don't know. And I doubt the director did either. Like I was saying, Jimmy is from south-central, and is down on his luck. He's being chased by his fiance, played by Monique, who we don't see much of. But, he sees an ad in the paper about adding a poem into a contest and winning a pub in Ireland. How he seen this ad, I don't know. But, he enters and wins. He's shipped off to Ireland, and all hell breaks loose for lionels_mother's friends. Oh, and he falls in love. All this bullshit was wrapped up in a sugercoated present, and sent right into my DVD player. The only good thing that I can comment about this movie is the strong performances by Eddie Griffin and Anna Friel. Without them, this movie would've recieved 0 out of 5 stars. But, it didn't. But, it is a sugercoated candy cane of shit! Half a star out of 5 |
