Rabid Dogs, 2015. 5/10

http://dailydead.com/wp-content/uplo...ogs-620-04.jpg

Loved Mario Bava's 1974 Rabid Dogs, a dirty gritty film with numerous great scenes. Bloody. I thought I'd check out this French remake and it didn't come close. The cinematography was lovely, that's about it.

Just gave it another watch as not only it's been a very slow month(s) for newer releases of horror movies but also...lately thinking to make a music video out of it for my youtube channel! ::danger:: ::wink::

It's ok. Nothing special.

The Shallows

I just did a detailed review of this but I think it can be summed up in one sentence - 'Sharks don't swim in shallow water'! A shark who goes against its own behavior and nature itself just to terrorize a loan person (despite an entire whale to chew on) breaks the willing suspension of disbelief concept. My partner and I rate films on a scale of 1-5 pin heads and this got 1 (reluctantly)

Shite.
The only good bit is on the poster. That's it.
Don't waste your time on this one.

I watched the film 'The Invitation' on Netflix.

I don't want to talk too much about it but I do highly recommend watching it. Very suspenseful and tense. Really puts you into the head of the main character.
Honestly it's best just watching the movie blind. Don't read reviews or look up the trailer. Just watch it!

Baron Von Marlon 07-13-2016 09:37 PM

The Boss (2016)
Boring and unfunny.
Imagine a very average family comedy, add a swearing Melissa McCarthy and you got The Boss.

The best way to watch any movie, imo.

From the director/writer of Green Room. I really liked this movie. Intelligently written and grounded in reality, but without the need to use a shaky cam to achieve it. Great movie.

Southbound (2015)
6/10

I didn't like it. But it was interesting.

Quote:

On a desolate stretch of desert highway, weary travelers-two men on the run from their past, a band on their way to the next gig, a man struggling to get home, a brother in search of his long-lost sister and a family on vacation-are forced to confront their worst fears and darkest secrets in these interwoven tales of terror and remorse on the open road...
Well made, with some fresh ideas, interesting scenarios where I was curious to see where they went, but I was decided disappointed at the conclusive destinations. Empty payoffs; chalk it up to taste?

Interesting to note, on rottentomatoes, vast majority of critics liked it (80%), but 2,400 Audience scored it 54%, which is significant. Maybe critics are relieved to see some craft and variation, but the general audience wants more meaning, heart, good defeating evil, or at least a worthwhile punch in the gut.

I was impressed with the dizzying climax of the early motel scene where the daughter is running into different rooms beyond the father's reach. Would have been an impressive end to the film, which of course, it is.

Honeymoon 2014

Surprisingly good. I had this to watch from a while ago, probably 2014, but hadn't gotten to it. I didn't know/remember anything about it except it was on my list. I'm quite glad I didn't. Its a horror film of course. I'd suggest doing the same, watch it without knowing what its about. It will definitely enhance the experience. If not I'm sure you can look online for information about it.

edit, moving this to a 7/10 from a 6.5. Must see.

A LITTLE BIT ZOMBIE 2012

This answers that age old question....What would happen if a mosquito bites a zombie and then turns around and later bites a really nice average joe? A solid B out of 11.

"The Purge: Election Year" 5/10

This franchise has gone from horror to just plain action. Sad. After a strong start I was kinda bored throughout the rest of the movie.

"Evolution" 7/10

A strange french somewhat lovecraftian horror movie made by a very visually focused director. Just look at the poster. Beautiful. Hope we get to see more horror from this Lucile Hadzihalilovic in the future.

The Secret Life of Pets

Cute movie. Personally, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to see it in the theater, but, it was a birthday celebration for a friend.

Did you like The Purge (2013) a lot?

I just saw it recently. It was interesting. I liked where they were going with it sci-fi-wise, but I didn't think it went far enough with character/social/political issues. Partially because I didn't think the action, suspense and horror were done all that well.

Now that the interesting premise is already known, I'd doubt there's anything left worthwhile for sequels. You'd have to advance the premise to a wider sci-fi political thriller. i mean a great horror director could redo that whole home-invasion bit, but that seems awfully repetitious.

It was fine. Nothing special as these Purges go on, its losing its 'Horror' ambiance. The first will always be my favorite. ::love::

I did like The Purge, but not a lot.

Like you, I liked the idea behind story, but not the story itself, which turned out to be a simple home invasion movie. The second movie went outside the house and that was all fine and dandy, but other than that there really wasn't anything new to it. Then this third movie comes out. Outside again and everything is pretty much the same as the last one. I can't really see this getting more sequels. There just isn't enough meat in the concept.

I think it's a good concept but they need to do it right.
It should be over the top madness and mayhem with blood, gore and nudity.
24 hour purging instead of 12 so we get some daylight action. Less purging rules, more insanity. Perhaps some other location than a big city. Someplace nice and sunny in contrast to the brutal violence.
I think Rob Zombie would be perfect for the job.
The story: bad guys have to get home during Purge day madness while being chased by a psycho cop (or cops) out for vengeance.

Allegiant 2016

3rd movie in the series. Really nothing memorable or worth paying to watch. But if you're ok d/l it somewhere its a decent film for vegging out to. All of the films are, I think. I can't remember much about them.

Ghostbusters (2016)

Pretty fun comedy with awesome cast, special effects and good action at the end. It's not as good as Paul Feig's other movies since the jokes are more hit-and-miss. Maybe he should stick with R-rated stuff. It won't replace the original, but it was great seeing these funny actresses work together.

7/10

What art are you talking about?
You mean like videogames having a bad influence on people?
Imo the shootings are a consequence of many things but not of art in any form.

horcrux2007 07-18-2016 08:22 PM

I don't think The Purge really had black lives matter or cops or shootings or anything like that on its political agenda.
