"Dodgeball" 8/10

3rd time i see this, but first time on DVD. Still cracks me up.

But what i want to mention/recommend from the dvd is actually the Commentary feature made by director Thurber, Vaughn & Stiller.
This is without a doubt the most messed up, crazy īn hilarious audio commentary iīve ever heard. Itīs kind of a little story in its own weird way with Vaughn being a delightful self-centred prick with a drinking problem.

Basically itīs Thurber, Vaughn & Stiller trashing each other thoughout the first 50 minutes of the commentary track and then......... Surprise, surprise. ;)

"Last house on the left" 5/10

Neither great or horrible.

PeaSoupintheye 03-15-2006 05:51 AM

Haute tension (Uncut)

I popped this into my DVD player last night with trepadation. I have heard some good things and a lot of bad so I had put off watching it until now...

I started watching around 1am last night and the wind was howling and the rain pouring ( typical Manchester weather) so I fugured it was a good time to watch a horror movie.

Within first 20 minutes I was hooked - it really did make me tense and the death scenes...just simply wow!

SPOILER

HOWEVER - I must agree with alot of people on this site. The ending for me spoilt it a little, I had a feeling something like that would come along because of all the mentions on here of a twist etc. I would have much preferred it if has been kept simple...ending with her killing him and closing on her screaming etc But, it didn't end this way, it was a shame as it spoilt it a bit but I still loved this movie.

shaun of the dead & domino, comedic british zombie film, chased with a bad ass bounty hunter film, with a side of keira knightley hotness.

*Spoilers*

Well here I sit at my computer, with my foot firmly planted in my mouth. While this wasn't a great film by any means, it completly and totally shattered my expectations. Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams were great toghether on screen, played off each other very nicely and had a great chemistry between them. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Mr. Murphy's character was the highlight of the film. He went from Mr. Gentleman to psycho in 2.5 seconds, which I thought was a nice transition. He didnt waste any time and got right to the point of the film, which I must say caught me off guard. A Hollywood movie that didn't waste time? Amazing! As the film wore on however, I started to remember that this was a Wes Craven movie; it had to go downhill sometime. The scene where Jackson headbutts Lisa, am I the only one that thinks people would notice that? How bout the infamous stabbing, how did she think that would help her situation? Seemed to me that it was just an excuse for Craven to throw in an overlong chase sequence. Last but not least, how about that missle near the end? That was some really bad CGI! Overall however, this was a fairly enjoyable film. Not to be taken seriously, but certainly an above-average diversion.

Jarhead

An okay war movie, but was more and less comically heartwarming than anything. Sure, every now and then we'd get something dramatic (such as Jakey boy's girlfriend cheating on him in the U.S., or, as the troops and sergeants like to say, boning Jody). For me, there wasn't much to work with besides the humor in the movie. Not something to rush to see by any means, but worth a look if you've got the time.

3 out of 5 stars

Very cool.

2 and 3 are very good sequels, IMO. How's 4? I've never seen it, is it the one with the girl?

Anyway, my last seen was:

Help! with The Beatles.

Great movie, one of my favorites, I've seen it quite a few times and it's not getting old.

The Satanic Rites of Dracula

Ive had this one on my mind ever since Alky made his thread about it. I didnt have aything better to do tonight, so I figured that I might as well pop this one in for my evening's entertainment. Well first off, it's not hard to tell that this was made in the 70's. The music and the styles of hair and clothing certainly give it away, but I think that gives it a charm of sorts. Cushing and Lee were great as always, although Lee was was very underused this time around. I dont think he got to say a single thing until over an hour into the film! Oh well, Cushing's preformance made up for Lee's absence, I guess. Christopher Lee did have a great entrance, if nothing else...the smoke billowing around him and the lighting from behind made for a great effect. Though many complain about it, I thought this was a very unique and interesting take on the classic Dracula story. Though Im not usually a fan of satanic conspiracy films, I throughly enjoyed this, and I reccomend it despite it's dated feel.

North Country - 7/10 - some great performances (esp. McDormand and Spacek, both are not in the film nearly enough) and an important topic. That said, I thought the excessive focus on the main character (theron) limited the impact of the film as about sexual harrassment and misogyny. in the end it felt too much like a personal story about her peculiar past and relationships than about broader social issues. also the court room scenes are used to very limited and ultimately unrealistic effect. harrelson and sean bean also turn in fair performances and theron is beautiful and well-accented, but not much real development. i did enjoy seeing the dad from six feet under in this role - though he was also very 2-dimensional (as were all the 'perpetrators'). i couldn't help but think about how well the film 'The Accused' worked similar kinds of issues with a nuance and skill that built real horrific tension - where this film just felt muddled.

OK......I couldn't take it anymore...so after yet another American fucking Idol, i says to my wife...."wife....you best go to bed cause i need me a horror movie fix."

I watched "Evil Breed--The Legend of Samhain"

Not as bad as you would expect...we got not one but two porn stars in it, some decent gore

Fear of Clowns

Damn the cover art! Once again, I'm drawn into a movie by the kick-ass cover art, only for it to turn out like shit! Now, I know crazy raplh liked it, but I wasn't a fan of the overly dark, but cutesy (in my opinion) areas and feel of the film. And I hated the clown! No character what so ever! At least it wasn't as bad as S.I.C.K.

Half a star out of 5

wasnt that impressed .. it started falling apart 1/2 way through.
it was also pretty predictable ... but hey - its a kids film.
I did like the colour and texture of the film.. the set design was well done.

Wishmaster

Right from the opening lines by Angus Scrimm, I knew that I was going to love this movie. It doesnt bother to waste any time, gets right to the good stuff within the first few minutes of the film. The gore, which is quite plentiful, reminded me of a mix of Hellraiser and In the Mouth of Madness, which is certainly a good thing. I had alot of fun playing "spot the horror star" throughout the film; in case you didn't already know, this is loaded with cameos! It also has it's share of references to The Exorcist...the homeless man's line about being an old alter boy, the Pazuzu statues, ect. I thought that was a nice touch, to be honest. Divoff created a classic horror villain, his voice and mannerisms were spot-on. Creepy and beyond cool, he fits right in among Freddy, Jason, Myers or Pinhead. My one problem with the film was the psychic girl. Why oh why did they need to cheapen this film by making her "psychic"? Oh well, it didnt detract too much, I guess. Overall, this is a great film if you like a nice, gory, somewhat original slasher flick.
