The Toxic Avenger
Watched it with my gf. She actually liked it alot. So that made me really happy. |
Ah, my triumphant return to horror after days of Disney:D. I'd seen them both before, but still, great movies.
Saw II This is a movie that deserves and requires multiple viewigs. Each time I watch it I notice more stuff that I missed before. Anyway, this is a great movie...if you want my mini-review, check a few pages back, I posted one a week or two ago. 8.5/10 Basket Case I don't think I've posted a review of this one here yet. Let me start out by saying that if you like low budget, cheesy 80's gore flicks, this is one of, if not the best. The plot is so absurd it's hilarious, the gore is very well done, and there are many scenes that are laugh out loud funny. We all know how rare it is to find a good mix of horror and comedy, but this hits it right on the button. Alot of the actors weren'y very good, but I think that just added a certain charm to their characters. Anyone who has seen this will agree that this has some very unforgettable characters, from the various residents of the Hotel Broslin, to the entire Bradley familly, to Duane and Belial themselves, this was definatly a character driven film. And I loved every minute of it. 8.5/10 |
Rio Bravo
First time watching this and while I had big expectations this one seemed to pull through. I really enjoyed Dean Martin in this one, he did a great job in my opinion. It's almost like an old West version of Assault on Preceinct 13... in a way. I'd say 4/5. |
Harry Potter 4
Underworld Evolution Nothing But Trouble |
Watched part of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Lost in Translation
Hmm, well I watched this thinking it would be poo(although I do like Bill Murray) and at the beginning had a pleasant surprise. I had a few laffs and then in the middle the film seems somewhat confused and it kinda tails off from there. An ok offering (worth while for the jogging machine scene) if you have nothing else to do... 6/10 Red Eye I have to say I really enjoyed this. OK, so it wasn't scary, or a horror film for that matter but it did remind me of something along the lines of a Hitchcock movie (and being a big fan of the big H) I found this film to be quite watchable. I know some people on here have slated it but I liked it for what it was - a basic thriller. Certainly not Craven's best ever effort but I would def. watch again. 7/10 The Amityville Horror (Remake) Firstly, I must admit to being a BIG fan of the original. Secondly I must admit to being put off by the reviews this film has reeived which is why it has been gathering dust still in it's shrink wrap in my crate of (I'm not sure if I should have bought this - films). well, I wasn't dissapointed in this movie in the sense that I expected shit and what I got was well, a semi - turd. It was an ok horror film - they didn't use the ghost girl as much as I would have liked and I particularly dis-liked the dog killing scene. 6.5/10 Lastly I continued with my 'Dead' Series... Day of The Dead I love this film, different as it is to the other two. Yes the characters are not likeable - but there again they are not supposed to be...the double disk edition is a cracking DVD set. Really good documentaries featuring Romero and Savini and most of the cast and I found them to be very informative. 10/10 Next up...Land of The Dead, Woman In Black, Lovers Lane, Wedding Crashers, Curse of the Were Rabbit, Polanski's Oliver Twist and Haute Tension. |

K-PAX
Due to a very misleading advertising campain, I saw this film in theatres at the relatively young age of 10. The trailers on TV portrayed the film as a comedy, and I bugged my parents until they took me. After seeing the movie, I was blown away. I had no idea what to think. Totally different than anything I had seen before, leaving far to many questions for such a young mind. Needless to say, I loved it. This morning was the first time I'd watched in in probably 2-3 years, and I still think it's one of the greatest films made in the last decade. Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges are both in top form, as a myterious man who may or may not be from another planet, and the psychiatrist that develops a bond with him while trying to decifer his mystery. The supporting cast are near perfect as well, each resident of the mental insitution is incredibly convincing in their own way. The open ending was handled very well, giving lots of evidance to support whatever you believe happened in the end. How this movie failed to recieve at least a nomination in that year's Oscars is beyond me. If you haven't seen this film, run to Wal-Mart RIGHT NOW. The DVD is usually in the bargain bin, pick it up! 9.5/10 PS- Ive read a couple places that this film steals shamelessly from an earlier film called "Man Facing Southeast". The author of the novel that K-PAX was based on, Gene Brewer, claims that any similarity is purely coincidental. So Im wondering, have any of you seen "Man Facing Southeast"? Is it really that similar? I read the plot on IMDB, and it does sound almost identical... |
Titanic...
 |

i saw man facing southeast many years ago .. did not see kpax. in the 1st film a man in an institution claims to be from another world. people think he's crazy but he insists so passionately that the psychiatrist becomes convinced (i cant remember in the end if it was determined he was or not) now - you tell me .. is kpax a coincidence ? |
Sounds pretty much the same to me. I guess I'll have to try and track down a copy, do you remember if it was any good?

Subterano
This has been sitting on my shelf gathering dust for months, so I figured I might as well watch it. I got it for $3 in a bargain bin, so I wasnt expecting much at all, but I got a rather pleasant surprise! Sure, it's not a great movie by any means, full of plot hole and continuity problems, but the actors were actually pretty good for a low budget flick like this. Same goes for the effects. The plot wasn't anything we haven't seen before, but it was handled well. I was pretty disapointed with the "Embo Man" villain in the end....looked like a bad Power Ranger villain. Oh well, it was still alot better than expected for $3! 7/10 |

i thing i have a dub on beta somewhere buried ... havent seen it around since. it's brazilian or argentinian i think .. |
Well, hopefully it gets a DVD release eventually. I checked out Amazon and Ebay, and the cheapest copy I can find is a used VHS for $30. I would really like to see it, but not that bad. Oh well...

The Constant Gardener
To avoid starting to sound like Amalthea, I really should run down to the store and rent Boogeyman. I dont think Ive given a film less than 7/10 in weeks, and this is certainly no exception. Rachel Weisz whole-heartedly deserved her Oscar, though I cant quite understand why it was for supporting actress rather than actress in a leading role. In fact the entire cast was phenominal, with special nods going out to Bill Nighy and, of course, the always great Ralph Fiennes. The plot had me guessing until the very end, and while the final outcome was unavoidable, I was still somewhat surprised. A word of warning however: If you're like Posher, and dismiss movies simply for being "boring", this is not for you. The majority of the film is talking and there is very little action. If that kind of film bothers you, leave this one on the shelf. Otherwise, I highly recomend it. 8/10 |

I did manage to get in one movie this week....and i only watched it because my son brought it home from the video store in which he works......i've been bugging him for "Venom" since it came out. Not a bad movie, as far as these go. Some good acting, some good kills.....very "Pumpkinhead" kinda feel to it.....what with the swamp setting and voodoo and all. Not as predictable as you would think either. http://movies.apple.com/moviesxml/s/...0509291546.jpg |
The last movie I saw was Ultraviolet. I felt Ultraviolated for paying money to see this Ultracrap of a movie.

Finished my 'dead' Series last night with Land of The Dead. I enjoyed this but I don't rate it (yet) as much as the others. The ending wasn't great but I can let it off as it has more plus points than negatives for me ( a major plus being Asia Argento!!)
Some good extra's too - liked the bit with the Shaun of the Dead guys lol. 8/10 But I might go higher after another viewing... |
I Spit On Your Grave
I hadn't watched this movie in over 10 years. I remembered being pretty indifferent to it when I first viewed it (didn't live up to the hype) but now that I'm a decade older, I was able to appreciate it a lot more. There's a little more to it than exploitation for exploitations' sake (like I consider Last House on the Left to be.) Still, it is what it is; enjoyable, nonetheless. 7/10 |

a longtime fan of the book (and the Jeff Wayne-? musical) i was very dissapointed that the power of the book was watered down into a little american religious vehicle. The George Pal stuff was interesting - but completely void of the emotional strength of the book) (i.e. the heroic battleship VS tripod fight) i'm suprised anyone from the UK would like this film considering .. |
