Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension

Basically the same plot of the first film with some alterations. The 'bro' brother was irritating as fuck. Not necessarily the actor, but the character. There was some cool effects, but the way characters reacted to some of them did not make sense. Also the parents hovering over their daughter to protect her was inconsistent. Acting was meh. Dialogue meh. I was able to finish it so it wasn't terrible, but I would not recommend it.

First one reminded me of Die Hard. This one of Die Hard 2 as it's not as good as the first one either.

Capturing the Friedmans (2003)

http://i63.tinypic.com/dcfnzd.jpg

In the late 80s the father of three grown sons & respected computer and music teacher Arnold Friedman came under investigation after the U.S. Postal Service intercepted a magazine of child pornography that he received from the Netherlands. Following a sting operation where they found a collection of child pornography, the authorities began to suspect Arnold for sexual abuse of the minor-aged male students of his computer classes, which he held in the basement of the family home.

A pretty compelling & disturbing documentary. Recommended.

Actually, the "vegetation" that took over the house was bloated, slimy and looked rotten. You felt that the house must have stunk to high heaven. The scientist was one of these guys who hated what man had done to mother earth, but he just ended up creating an abomination.

BBC DRACULA 2006

In this adaption, dracula is brought to England by an "illuminati" type group known as the brotherhood of the undead. There are still the main players but the story is quite different.

Enjoyable enough, I suppose.

horcrux2007 05-15-2016 06:25 PM

I've got two movies that are political-thriller-drama kind of movies.

Gattaca (1997)

Uma Thurman pre-Bride and Ethan Hawke pre-stuck doing every Blumhouse movie star in a high-concept thriller about the human eugenics controversy. Gattaca takes place in the near future where "designer babies" are a social norm where parents can choose the most desirable traits of their unborn babies (athletic, tall, intelligent, etc.), and people with undesirable genetics are discriminated against. One man, Vincent, has dreams of space travel, but because of his inferior genetics, he is relegated to being the janitor at the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation. A chance of a lifetime comes his way when an employee at Gattaca offers to allow Vincent to assume his identity for a trip Titan. However, the murder of the mission director and a blooming romance with another employee threaten to reveal Vincent's true identity. Gattaca deftly blends its more dramatic moments with unique sci-fi thrills to give a smart little thriller. Although, because of its lofty ambitions and concept, the plot has to force some things to just work out so that it can keep moving forward. A couple of these instances could have been more thoroughly explained in a short scene since the running time isn't terribly long anyway. Another tiny issue is that the reveal of the murderer is pretty anticlimactic. With all the buildup, you'd expect a big surprise, but when it's revealed, it's quickly acknowledged and then forgotten about. The best thing about Gattaca, though, is its incredible writing. There's a lot of quotable lines that I'm sure have led to its status as a cult flick. Along with its ambitious ideas and engrossing plot, Gattaca is a taut, memorable cult sci-fi thriller.

Money Monster (2016)

Last year's The Big Short told the real-life story of the people that profited from the stock market crash in the late 2000's. It was funny, biting and just a little infuriating. Money Monster, on the other hand, goes for a simpler approach with a real-time hostage thriller. Money Monster stars George Clooney as financial TV host Lee Gates (an obvious riff on Jim Cramer from Mad Money) who is airing his latest edition of his show, you guessed it, Money Monster. Just 24 hours before, IBIS Global Capital's stock inexplicably crashed due to a glitch in a trading algorithm. A viewer of Gates' show, Kyle Budwell, loses all of his money due to a bad tip from Gates saying that IBIS' stock is "safer than your bank account." Halfway through Gates' show, Kyle gets onto the set and threatens Gates at gunpoint, forcing him to put on a bomb vest. Kyle wants answers, and if he doesn't get them, he'll blow up Gates before killing himself. Julia Roberts also stars as the show's director who attempts to get everyone out of the bomb threat from behind the scenes. Money Monster conjures up some great thrills from a reliably game cast, especially Jack O'Connell who plays 99%'er Kyle. There's also quite a bit of dark humor to give the more intense parts some edge while still not detracting from the movie's tone. It's a simple, timely and contained thriller that should give adults some respite from the myriad of PG-13 fare that is in the theaters so often.

I remember going in thinking rather the opposite. I knew it'd be trash, but I had hoped. After I saw the characters, I had really really hoped it would end up being okay. But there was so little focus on them that we come out knowing nothing about them and don't give a rat's happy ass if they end up getting ate or not.

TheBossInTheWall 05-19-2016 11:46 PM

Bite 2015

All acting was fairly bad except the main actress who was mediocre until she begins to change and then she's awesome.

Huge plot holes.

Story was barely tolerable.

Redemption: The sfx/gore. Not sure if its strictly 'gore', but it was really well done. Do not want to ruin anything for people who haven't seen it. If you can make it past the over used scenes with women in bikinis saying 'wooooooooo!' a lot and once things start happening it becomes more worth it. Without the sfx/gore the movie would be not worth the effort.

Yes, now I have. It was so-so. Actually it was quite ridiculous, the killer could've done his job nice and easy within the first 15 minutes. Rest of the movie was quite repetitive and to be honest, the first time I tried to watch it I lost interest after half an hour. But now that you asked I decided to see it all the way through. And it was nothing special, so thank you. Thank you to hell.

LOL! Well, I guess you couldn't have been in a bad mood both evenings.

Maybe I was just in a good mood, but I thought it was sharp, well paced and kept on the edge of my seat.

Of course he could have killed her when he was standing right behind her in the beginning... He's got a freakin crossbow! he's not into easy, he's into challenge, and chase. Did you miss that whole concept? Once you accept that, I thought it played out fairly realistic, padding in some of those messing-with-you horror concepts.

What liked most was it stayed focused on what it was. The character development was very focused... they just told you about things they were gong to use later on. Very Hitchcockian focus. You missed it, Chump!

SPOILER: Stark pulsar blasting Red Falcon in the chest for doing nothing but try to help was just the cherry on top for me. The reason War Machine fell was because of Stark's stupid ass call, NOT Falcon!! I honestly wouldn't give a shit if he dies in Infinity War. ::roll eyes::

House of Last Things (2013)

http://s32.postimg.org/j0xu3cl9x/holt.jpg

Not creepy or scary but still somewhat a strange ghost story with limited set up & production values. At the beginning it was little incoherent but liked the way with back & forth story line treatment it revealed the mystery slowly. It had few interesting ideas and wanted to be something big like The Shining but eventually fails to reach that height. Not bad for an unknown horror flick but don't expect too much.

De Poel aka The Pool (2014)

http://s32.postimg.org/h8fnaeit1/de_poel_the_pool.jpg

Though the revelation of the unknown horror or haunting mystery of the woods here was kinda unsatisfactory or quite cliched stuff but overall it was a pretty decent "there's something in the woods" flick from the Netherlands.
