Puppet Master 5
I still liked 3 best. This one wasn't bad though.

I watched it... I'm suddenly very glad we didn't have a tree this year. ::big grin::

I watched Oculus on Netflix yesterday. It was good, and I can see why it had a good rating.

Two brothers, one a success at business and family , the other obsessed with The Family.

Two friends just traveling across the Catskills, breaking into houses and taking what they want, staying awhile and moving on to the next. It was awesome! Felt like they were making up the story as they filmed.

Funny. Atmospheric. Pretty solid performances all around. Engaging. Slow burn, but well worth the watch.
Some of the moving shots they did were really good too.
While some scenes were over the top, I found there was actually a lot of restraint shown here.
Richard Jenkins as Chicory...God damned if I knew it was him...he was a simple, but really likable character.
Dialogue shone.
Ended rather "so ok...we're done", but that's what it was, a story that was completed.

Hard pressed to give this one any less than an 8/10.

I saw this last night and was ba-lown away. Right up my alley. Great acting, compelling drama, actually thrilling action scenes, and dang, those cannibals. Green Inferno could have used a bit of what Bone Tomahawk has.

Chevalier 01-02-2016 07:56 PM

Just watched Darkness (2002), it was one of those movies that competently navigated the troupes, but wasn't great.

I also watched Innkeepers (2011) which was a good movie.

Grave Encounters. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't amazing. I feel like it lacks something though I'm not sure what. 6.7/10.

Watched the Haunted (1999). Decent horror movie. I first saw it at the theater when I was 10.

SERIAL MOM (1994). Kathleen Turner is wonderful in this truly funny John Water's film about a loving housewife/mother who kills people who piss her off or commit social no-nos. Great cast as well. ***1/2

Straight Outta Compton (2015) director's cut

Decent biographical movie about NWA.
Don't know how true it is but it's certainly not a bad watch.

Some of the most amazing camera work/cinematography I've ever seen. Everything felt like I was right there with them. Leo and Tom, outstanding.

I just watched it now. It was incredible, violent and disturbing at times. I'll post a full review tomorrow.

So far this has been a very poor month for not only horror movies, but any damn movies.

It's so bad I've started watching old horror movies on Youtube, for the lack of better entertainment. HELP MEEE!!!

Wow, a western with a twist? Now I've seen everything!

If Scott Eastwood is the new Clint Eastwood, only time will tell. But he sure got the looks for the job. His acting isn't bad either, especially in this flick.

The Revenant (2015)

Loosely based on the life of 19th century frontiersman Hugh Glass, The Revenant is a brutal yet visually stunning western with one of Leonardo DiCaprio's best performances yet. The film follows Glass after he is mauled by a bear and left for dead by his fellow fur traders. One of the frontiersmen, John Fitzgerald, kills his son, and Glass voyages over 200 miles to exact revenge on him. The Revenant is one of the most violent movies I've seen from 2015, although the incredible scenery and cinematography also make it one of the most astonishing movies to look at. It combines some intense, difficult-to-watch scenes with amazing scenery which makes it one of the most beautiful violent films I've seen. Leo's committed and demanding performance is certainly one of the best of his career especially because of the lack of the dialog in the film. The 156-minute running time, relentless brutality and limited dialog does take a bit of a commitment to finish, but The Revenant is a masterfully directed film that makes the most of its subject matter's intriguing story.

9/10

Found Footage from Peru. Film students decide to do a project studying people watching 'reaction videos' So they are filming videos of people watching horrific videos to see their reaction. ::roll eyes::They try to hunt them down to see what they watched. Well all of them died. They start to look for this said video. They end up in an old cemetery and find the film. Anyway annoying FF in check, cool gore scenes when you could focus on it and a pissed off demon. Alot of over the top acting and screaming but I've never had my face ripped apart by a demon so I may scream just as loud as they. : )
