The Whisperer In Darkness (2011)

Decent Lovecraft adaptation.

Old 37 (2015)
C-
"Don't worry, I'm a paramedic."
Loved the concept. The execution, not so much.
Editing and script were a bit messy imo. And most characters were quite dumb.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015)

After two years of its release date being pushed back further and further, Paranormal Activity fans can finally see the alleged ending to one of the longest running ghost franchises of this generation. If this will truly end the series is definitely up for debate, but I think it did answer the big questions pretty well. The sixth Paranormal Activity takes place a few years after Paranormal Activity 4 and, like the previous two sequels, involves a new cast of characters, the Fleeges: Ryan, his wife Emily, their daughter Leila, Ryan's brother Mike, and their friend Skylar. You can guess what happens next: rich white family moves into a house, weird stuff happens, then demons. But every PA movie has their own gimmick, and that's where the "spirit camera" comes in (or whatever it's called). This camera can actually see ghosts and demons, so we can actually see Toby. It's an interesting idea, and it's generally used pretty well throughout the film. It's probably one of the better gimmicks in the series, although I don't think anything could rival the rotating fan cam from part 3. Because we can actually see the activity through this camera, The Ghost Dimension is probably the flashiest and definitely the most effects-driven Paranormal Activity flick. The special effects look pretty good for a low budget movie like this, even though there are a couple of cheesy CGI shots towards the end. Unfortunately, the scares are obviously the result of being the sixth movie in a franchise, as most of them miss rather than hit. The static shots are still rather effective, but those can only go so far in terms of scare factor. Something else that somewhat disappointed me was how short this movie felt. I didn't think this movie was rushed at all; it just felt incredibly short. Maybe because it was more fast paced than the other movies, or maybe because this Paranormal Activity only took place over 8 nights instead of the nearly 20 the other films chronicled. That didn't make the movie bad so much that it just bothered me. The Ghost Dimension ended the series on a reasonably satisfying note, but it's time for the activity the come to an end.

"The Man Who Laughs". While I was watching it I came across this cool "Who"s Your Horror Movie Evil Twin" quiz. It was a lot of fun https://www.eyesocialeyes.com/horror-movie-twin/. My twin is Jigsaw! Let me know who your Evil Twin is.

I was really excited to see this for rent on Amazon Prime and for free..I immediately pressed the play button. I've been seeing this on FB as a release by Unearthed..I think. Meh. It took too long to see any bloody violence. The lead girls were annoying as fuck and needed to be killed slowly. Ahh, some of you may like it, the chicks are fully naked a lot of the time. I can't say there was a stand out scene for me.

Nice to see him in a role like this. Fits him so well.

But I actually thought Mathew Fox was the best in this one. Must be the most likable racist I've ever seen in a movie.

'Crimson Peak' (2015)
-Mia Waslkowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain

Plot IMDB
In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds - and remembers.

Phantom's Review: I gotta admit, I was a bit disappointed with this film. It's definitely NOT a bad movie, It's beautifully filmed, great atmosphere, fine acting from the whole cast and some truly marvelous set design, the only problem...it isn't the least bit scary. The film is more along the lines of a psychological thriller that just happens to have a couple of ghosts in it. I was expecting a few more BOO! scenes and the film just didn't have them. Like I said, it's not a bad movie at all and had been expecting this kind of story, I probably would have liked it more, but wanting a good Halloween scare, I came away wanting. It's worth watching on DVD,but nothing more.

Just wanted to put this here...

Quote:

Yet del Toro does not consider “Crimson Peak” a horror film — he repeatedly refers to it as a gothic romance. Talk to him about influences, and he’s more likely to cite Henry James than Stephen King. “Gothic romance is a curious little beast,” he notes. “It’s a mix between the atmospherics of a fairy tale or a horror movie and a love story that reveals the darker side of love.”

You guys wanna know a secret? Little girls covered in gold are NOT SCARY. They dedicated way to much time with cliche jump scares with this painted brat. Show whats UNDER the gold if you want to traumatize your audience.

Got better with the possessions and backstory.

Couldn't help but think of Deadbeat with all the slicing this movie had.

"Saving Christmas"

Wanna see something reeeeally scary? Like mind-blowingly horrific?

After 30 minutes I had to turn it off. At that time I felt raped. Raped by Kirk Cameron, Jesus Christ, God, Santa Claus and especially writer/director Darren Doane. I hope that guy never gets to make a movie ever again. If I wanted someone to force christianity down my throat this badly I'd have to shoot myself.

What the hell was I thinking..

Whao! I didn't even know this existed. The cover looks like a Mad Magazine cover. So surreal.

I have to hand it to you, Angra, you are a brave man. I got to watch a trailer.

Horrible reviews. Trailer's not bad. I may have to try it.

Would have been better if it wasn't mainly found footage and they just used the name Jim Jones and Jonestown/

Frankenstein's Army and Kung Fury for me today. Kung Fury was a fun mess and Frankenstein's Army was... not what I expected. I liked FA but I wasn't expecting a found footage film set during WWII, that part threw me off.

FA is one of my new favorites! The found footage thing was unexpected to me too, but I think it worked well. I was just blown away with all the fucked up monstrosities that Frankenstein created. After watching it twice on Netflix, I decided I needed to own it. I found it and a Mosquito mini poster that I just had to have on ebay. They are now mine. ::smile::

Have pics of that poster???

I didn't care for this film myself. Bressack has gone Hollywood. Well that's fine if that's what he wants. I love his film, My Pure Joy and 13/13/13. Indie awesomeness. Thanks for thinking of me as the blood splattered...::love:: .

One of the best and earliest found footage flicks. Second or maybe third time I saw this. Still brilliant.

Lost Time 2014

So the image above does not do describe very well the movie. You will see it in the film, but there's a lot more to this film than a sci/fi horror movie.

The story is a woman is dying from cancer. Her sister is taking care of her. On a drive back from a doctor's office and/or hospital the car they're in dies. So they're stopped. And then something happens. The dying sister wakes up to find her sister gone. The majority of the film is her searching for answers. Watching this film I kept expecting it to follow a certain sequence, but it does not. And what happens is sort of strange in what themes are mixed into the story. Sometimes it felt like a Lifetime channel movie, sometimes definitely a horror flic, then a thriller, then well more stuff that mentioning would ruin the story. I suggest watching it. Its not something I'd watch again, but it was worth it to see something done differently.

I'm not big on Thanksgiving since it's based on murder and lies so I don't care if it C wants to take over THAT holiday, but no mention of it til December is perfectly acceptable to.

I just get so enraged when I see C shit when I'm at a store or where ever. I have an incredible urge to light the place on fire but then it might spread to the Halloween stuff and we can't have that. ::smile::
