I hate to be that guy, but did you read the books? This is one of the few book adaptations I have seen that is actually damn near dead on accurate. Like scene for scene damn near perfect. The movie was excellent. The only thing that's strange that they left out was something I would think would have been easy to make part of the movie was Elvis's ghost. Its actually a huge part of the book that Elvis's ghost stays with him for a large chunk of the story and in the movie he was reduced to a cardboard cutout in Odd's apartment. Otherwise A++++ movie.

THE WOLFMAN (2010). OK effort, but was left unsatisfied by this, despite all the good things going for it. just don't see BDT as a lycanthrope and was kind of hoping Claude Rains would show up with that silver cane::big grin::! **1/2

This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Fuckin' CGI when applied into films fucks everything up, then throw in some 'comedy' elements. ::mad:: If you can't give a film a FX without using CGI..don't do it. Every computer generated effect could have been left out or in some cases practical could have been used. Cut away editing, in that I mean..gonna scoop a guys eye out, cut away..show the scene that was filmed at another time, cut back to said eye in persons mouth. No good. Ahh, fuck it.

The Diabolical 2015

Husband died. Son acting out. Mom having major financial problems. Scary shit happening in their home.
Dislike CGI? This film has some really great prosthetics. The elements that could be done by CGI, not familiar enough to say, work very well. Seems more like they used filming tricks than computer created graphics.
The story unfolds piece by piece and I was able to pick up on hints to understand the story before things happen, but not in an annoying way or having to work to find the hints, thus taking you out of the movie.
Acting is average. It was also to nice to see someone of, Indian?, heritage not playing a doctor or terrorist. Characters not being type-cast by race/ethnicity make me happy.

What you figure out and is explained towards the end is not something you expect to happen in the first half of the film. Somethings didn't fit, but most of it worked well.

5.5/10. Keep in mind I'm hard to please so that's a high rating. I'd recommend it. I also suggest not watching the trailer, but if you want some idea then just watch 15 seconds. I didn't watch further and it might end up ruining the end of the story.

Oh well, they were better than the CGI hyenas in one of those Exorcist prequels (or was it both of them?).

"Turbo Kid" (2015)
Plot: IMDB
In a post-apocalyptic future, THE KID, a young solitary scavenger obsessed with comic books must face his fears and become a reluctant hero when he meets a mysterious girl named APPLE. Despite their efforts to keep to themselves, ZEUS, the sadistic and self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland, plagues THE KID and APPLE. Armed with little more than blind faith and an ancient turbocharged weapon, THE KID learns of justice and friendship and embarks on an incredible journey to rid the Wasteland of evil and save the girl of his dreams.

Phantom's Review:
There are some movie's that are bad, but fun and there are some movies that are just plain bad..and then there's "Turbo Kid" . A film that is absolutely amazing in it's awfulness. It's the kind of film, that after it's over. you get up and open a window to let the stink out. Bad on every level, but not even funny bad, just BAD. A waste of time.

Crimson Peak (2015)

Misleading advertising has ruined many a movie, and unfortunately, Crimson Peak is another victim of poor marketing. Trailers made the movie out to be similar to recent scare fests like The Conjuring when it is actually more Gothic and romantic like Sleepy Hollow or Bram Stoker's Dracula. With all that being said, Crimson Peak is a very engaging and creepy film. Crimson Peak is about a woman named Edith, whose heart is stolen by a stranger who leaders her to a mysterious mansion atop a hill of blood-red clay, but she quickly learns that the house and her lover hold dark secrets. What may disappoint horror fans is that this movie isn't very scary. Apart from a great deal of dread and a couple of nail-biting sequences, Crimson Peak is not a horror film. Edith describes this film perfectly when she is describing a manuscript she wrote: "It's not a ghost story; it's a story with ghosts in it." It's a beautifully filmed, sexual, violent Gothic romance. There are great performances from the entire cast, with Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain giving standout performances, but the best character in the film is the house itself. The mansion's elaborate and darkly beautiful design make it one of the most memorable haunted houses in film, and every single shot of it is like a piece of art. Del Toro paints such stunning imagery in Crimson Peak that you could pick any frame from the movie and hang it as an art piece. He directs each actor and shot with grace and elegance that it makes up for the film's rather predictable plot. Crimson Peak isn't Del Toro's horror masterpiece as some people were expecting, but it is a beautifully crafted work of Gothic fiction that should be a suitable diversion just in time for Halloween.

Beasts Of No Nation (2015)
B-
Decent war drama set in Africa starring Idris Elba.
Quite similar to Johnny Mad Dog. I think I liked that one better.

Idiocracy (2006)
One of the few movies made by Mike Judge.
Guess it's the 4th or 5th time I saw it.
Still love it but the humour's not for everybody.

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)
Classic Jim Carrey.
"I have the reflexes of a cat and the speed of a mongoose."

Dumb And Dumber (1994)
Still funny. I miss Jim Carrey's comedy antics.

Robin Hood: Men In Tights (1993)
One of the later Mel Brooks movies.
Been a while since I've seen this one.
Not as funny as back then but still a nice comedy.
They just don't make movies like this anymore.

Had some nice kills in between annoying "teens" yelling out their dialogue.

Don't believe I've seen Blood Beach (1980), so can't compare the two. All I can say is that it reminded me of "The Raft" from Creepshow 2.

Idiocracy was a great surprise! Original & potent satire, and so close to reality it actually entertains the people it sharply lampoons.

Dumb And Dumber - knows how to be smart about dumb. Favorite scene was the snowball.

This was a great film, looked beautiful, gave nods to Gialli, lots of gory scenes that looked amazing but its a comedy; that alone lowered my score.

For the most part dialogue and character driven, but still a good suspenseful werewolf flick. And of course you can't make a british horror movie on a decent budget without having Sean Pertwee in it. Goes without sayin.

Didn't get why the other 2 were so freaky looking? were there complications in the process of teleportation with time travel? But that "Flesh one" was kinda really cool & creepy...expected it'd play a bigger role at the end.

Decent movie but the script was weak.
One moment it's serious and realistic, the other it's over-the-top.
Would've like it more if they stuck with one approach.

More spoilers for The Diabolical:

Yeah I believe they were two attempts that failed, but were somehow stuck. Or possibly the flesh one was more than one attempt, but all with the same result. Yeah I wanted more of the first two. I do not see why they did not use them more. I think some sort of hint was also in the use of a flesh casing they pulled off of their heads.

'Mr. Holmes' (2015)
-Ian McKellen

Plot: IMDB
The story is set in 1947, following a long-retired Holmes living in a Sussex village with his housekeeper and rising detective son. But then he finds himself haunted by an unsolved 30-year old case. Holmes memory isn't what it used to be, so he only remembers fragments of the case: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.

Phantom's Review:
If your a fan of big budget, action packed special FX blockbusters, then do yourself a favor and don't watch this. If you like, smaller, brilliantly acted dramas, an intriguing mystery and good story, then settle in and watch 'Mr. Holmes'.
Ian McKellen is marvelous as the aged Sherlock Holmes living out his twilight years in the English countryside. The film deals with many concepts. What it's like to old, memories fading, regrets and how one deals with loss as you get older. The film also has an interesting mystery at it's core, that is told in flashbacks. In fact, there several flashbacks that tell different points in the story. This is a character piece and it's told at it's own speed. I enjoyed this film tremendously and I am a life long Holmes fan. If you are too, then watch it. you'll enjoy it.
