Deep Dark 2015 This is basically A Bucket of Blood except the bodies are a hole in a wall and its pearls that seem to affect people mentally. Its also a very used plot. At least as far as I could get without being too annoyed and bored. Loser who's a bad artist. Artist finds a suspect art medium that turns into something much worse. He treats his muse badly, breaks his deal with it. He ignores the girl who really likes him for the more glamorous woman. I assume eventually the hole in the wall ruins his life. Every time I hear about a 'hole' horror movie it frustrates me Kathy Koja's novel The Cypher hasn't been made into a film. Blah. 2/10 |
'Treasure Island' (1990)
-Charlton Heston Plot: IMDB Young Jim Hawkins, while running the Benbow Inn with his mother, meets Captain Billy Bones, who dies at the inn while it is besieged by buccaneers led by Blind Pew. Jim and his mother fight off the attackers and discover Billy Bones' treasure map for which the buccaneers had come. Jim agrees to sail on the Hispaniola with Squire Trelawney and Dr. Livesey to find the treasure on a mysterious island. Upon arriving at the island, ship's cook and scalawag Long John Silver leads a mutiny of crew members who want the treasure for themselves. Jim helps the Squire and Hispaniola officers to survive the mutiny and fight back against Silver's men, who have taken over the Hispaniola. Phantom's Review: For night two of my "International Talk Like A Pirate Day' week, I choose, this, my favorite adaptation of Robert Lewis Stevenson's much filmed novel. Originally made as a TV movie, this film easily beats any Theatrical film version. Beautiful cinematography, an excellent script and an exceptional cast that includes Christian Bale, Christopher Lee (as Blind Pew), Oliver Reed (as Billy Bones) and Julian Glover, all led by Charlton Heston as "Long John Silver". I thoroughly enjoy this film, and if you enjoy this book or Pirate stories in general, you'll enjoy this. Ahoy! #Talklikeapirateday |
The Salvation
Very solid western. Jeffrey Dean Morgan reminds me of Powers Booth character in Tombstone....only more of an asshole. Great cast ....nothing ground breaking here but definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of the genre. I'm looking at you " phantomstranger" http://www.thetexastheatre.com/wp-co...n-poster-2.jpg |
I've got in my Netflix Queue. Looking forward to it.

'Cutthroat Island' (1996)
-Gena Davis Plot: IMDB Morgan Adams and her slave, William Shaw, are on a quest to recover the three portions of a treasure map. Unfortunately, the final portion is held by her murderous uncle, Dawg. Her crew is skeptical of her leadership abilities, so she must complete her quest before they mutiny against her. This is made yet more difficult by the efforts of the British crown to end her piratical raids. Phantom's Review: For night three of my "International Talk Like A Pirate Day" week,, I choose this, One of the biggest bombs in film history. Yeah, I've heard all the stories, massive financial flop, took a studio down with it, and one of the last nails in the coffin of the marriage of Gena Davis and director Renny Harlin, but despite all of this, I LIKE THIS MOVIE. It's got plenty of action, great cinematography, most of the pirate movie cliches, and a couple of awesome looking Pirate ships. Is it a great film..no, but it's lots of fun. #ITLAPD2015 |

'The Pirates! Band Of Misfits" (2012)
-Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek Plot: IMDB After years of humiliation and failed attempts to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award, Pirate Captain and his oddball crew take on the cream of the pirating crop - Black Bellamy, Peg Leg Hastings and Cutlass Liz - in a race to pillage the most booty. They soon cross paths with lovelorn scientist Charles Darwin, who persuades the Captain that the crew's prized 'parrot', Polly, could be the answer to the 'untold riches' they are searching for. Their adventure takes them to Victorian London where they meet Darwin's sidekick 'man-panzee' Mister Bobo, and the notorious pirate-hating Queen Victoria herself. It soon unfolds that Darwin's motives for helping the crew are not what they seem, and the Queen has an evil hidden agenda of her own. The Pirate Captain must choose between basking in the glory of being crowned Pirate of the Year, or staying faithful to his trusted crew. #ITLAPD2015 Phantom's Review: For night four of my "International Talk Like A Pirate Day" week, I choose, a film for the whole family. This film is one of the goofiest, most entertaining animated films that I've seen in a long time. Made by the same folks who do the "Wallace And Gromitt" shows, this film is wonderfully animated, well written, with some of the silliest jokes, characters and situations. A great film for all the pirates in your crew :) |

Cooties (2014)
C Started out great but then it became more and more average. Too bad because this one really had a lot of potential. Hellions (2015) Seemed alright at first but then it became a bit abstract in a way that annoyed me. Towards the end I couldn't be bothered anymore and turned it off. And the movie was only 80 minutes. |
Boogie Nights/1997.
Cinderella/2015. Jawbreaker/1999. I still love this movie, critics be damned. Manson's face in one particular scene LOL! |

![]() Was really looking forward to this. It started great and the film looked beautiful .... then it got stupid as fuck. The little Trick or Treaters were awesome looking but that is it. Last Shift, 2015. 7/10 http://s2.dmcdn.net/ONt09/280x157-7Dg.jpg Rookie cop gets to spend the night in a closed police station, shes waiting for Hazmat to pick up some material. Freaky and odd things begin happening. Demons from the past start to cause some insane shenanigans. Blotted with CGI, here and there. Interesting watch. |
Bitva za Sevastopol(Battle of Sevastopol) 2015
This film is about Lyudmila Mikhaylovna Pavlichenko the best sniper in the Soviet army during WWII. Possibly the best sniper of any of the nations involved. It takes place from a little bit before her training up until her final days in the US as a sort of diplomat. Going back and forth from her time in the US and her time before that in the war. I do not know how much of the story is true, but she seems to have become close friends with Elanor Roosevelt. The film is of very high quality. Incredibly shot and acted, particularly Yuliya Peresild who plays the lead. I really liked that the women soldiers were treated the same as the men. The worked together and fought together in the same trenches/front lines/etc. At least in the film. She herself was tough, wounded three times to back into the fight. A few things were annoying because it was fairly obvious that some of it was propaganda. A German sniper killed with a Hitler mustache. The officers who never see battle as pompous and inept, while the 'real' soldiers were smart and decisive. The copy I found, as far as I can tell its hard to get rent in the US, had an acceptable, but often incorrect, subtitles. It was a joint film made between Russia and Ukraine before the recent Crimean invasion/annexation by Russia. |

We Are Still Here 2015 Parents leave the city to a very small town with large open fields. They leave because their son died and I guess they thought it would help them move on as much as is possible from the loss of a child. Then of course horror stuff eventually ensues. Great film. I did not want it to end, I wanted more. Great sfx, acting, etc. Its a bit slow to start, but its a good atmosphere during the beginning, creates the main characters' situation. Slow, but not boring. I also liked that the two main characters were middle aged and acting like a middle aged married couple. No sex scenes. Three characters were hollywood 'hot', but only one was a large part of the film. I'm so tired of the generic hot people in movies, and sick of it always being young actors. So this was an extra bonus. The film also leaves itself open to a sequel. I really hope there is one. Oh and it takes place, I think, in the 1970s. 7.5/10 Minor spoiler: I really wish the film told us what it was that the people who built the house uncovered when they dug the basement. Alas. |

Watched 2 really good ones in the past week.
Sleepy Hollow (1999) Tim Burton put his own spin on the classic short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" with the surprisingly good 1999 adaptation Sleepy Hollow. In the movie adaptation, New York detective Ichabod Crane must travel to the mysterious Sleepy Hollow in order to solve a series of murders that took place there, but realizes the town's dark history and the legend of a headless horseman might be the true culprit. Sleepy Hollow is essentially a highly stylized slasher flicks. There are lots of gory decapitations set against a fittingly gothic tone, and although it's never truly heart-poundingly intense, there is a great atmosphere and some creepy imagery. Burton does make this movie a bit darker than his previous films (at the time), but there's still a bit of humor in its heart, mostly because of Johnny Depp's role as the Ichabod. Even though it deviates significantly from its source material, Sleepy Hollow is a fun, atmospheric movie. 8/10 -- Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) Having become a much bigger fan of the original Maze Runner than I thought I'd ever be, I was hoping for some great things from The Scorch Trials, and boy, did it deliver. The Scorch Trials follows Thomas and co. after they have exited the Glade and eventually find themselves in an even more hostile environment, the Scorch. If the environment doesn't kill them, the Cranks will, zombie-like people who have contracted an apocalyptic virus. This movie deviates significantly from its predecessor; while The Maze Runner was an intense sci-fi mystery, The Scorch Trials is an action-packed thriller bent on making your pulse race from start to finish. It lacks the mystery of the first film, but the sequel makes up for it with the unpredictable and thrilling plot and visceral action scenes. It also packs a strong emotional punch. All the returning characters have been nicely developed while new characters bring exciting changes to series' pace and style, so when the final act goes completely insane, you'll really feel for what these characters go through. By improving almost every aspect of The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials becomes the rare sequel that is better than its predecessor, and I eagerly await the next installment. 9/10 |

7 NIGHTS OF DARKNESS 2011
Such a common theme, I wonder if I haven't seen it before. A reality show challenges contestants to spend 7 nights in an old asylum, performing tasks for each night. Seances and the like. It wasn't bad but I didn't find anything too scary about it. |

Meh. Guess it wasn't bad but it just wasn't for me. |
From Hell-2001. I really liked this movie, Heather Graham just seemed out of place to me though.
