Dog Soldiers. 10/10 must see

Dead Meat. I'm not sure, I stopped watching. Anybody seen it?

Haute Tension: I kept nodding off when I started watching, I kept waking up and thinking the sounds from the movie were happening around me so I ddecided to turn it off and go to sleep. :p What I saw was good though, I'll watch it tonight and come back with my verdict.

edit: I really loved Haute Tension right until about the last 15-20 minutes. :( It was still good though.

Better than the J. Carpenter remake...and is hard to me to said that, 'cos I'm a great fan of Carpenter

A lot of people have said that it seems Carpenter is toning things down a bit when it comes to making horror films. That, or the studios are holding him back a little too much.

bwind22 11-01-2005 10:17 PM

Rosemary's Baby

This is one classic that deserves it's reputation. Twisted story, good acting, no real gore but there's a very creepy atmosphere throughout this film plus a few shots of Mia Farrow's hooters (So that's a plus). I really liked the very anti-happy Hollywood ending. Excellent film.

Next up: Haute Tension, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

I suppose it's a little different when you stay home with a decent pile of horror films for halloween. I spent four hours in a bus to get to a Halloween Film Festival called Night Visions (in Finland) and the expectation kept me going throughout the evening. This all-night event had some highlights and not necessarily the best choices, I admit.

23.00 Exorcism of Emily Rose vs. From Beyond
01.15 Corpse Bride vs. Pervert!
03.00 The Descent vs. Linda Lovelace for President
04.45 The Devil's Rejects
06.45 Domino vs. I Spit on Your Grave
08.45 Demons
10.30 Supersonic Man

My Choices:
From Beyond - 4
Corpse Bride - 4
Linda Lovelace for President - uhm...
The Devil's Rejects - 1

Damn...I had to leave to catch the bus back home. Maybe next year will be...fuller.

I Spit on Your Grave
Demons
Supersonic Man

[Personal review points out of 5.]

One hell of an evening. Had time to catch some shuteye during...?

Of course. :)

bwind22 11-02-2005 04:25 AM

You should have watched Demons. That's the best one out of your bunch there in my opinion...

No.... "Henry: Confessions Of A Serial Killer" is more twisted than "Portrait" was. :) I wasn't too into Rosemary's Baby, but the movie score when the devil was screwing her was just creepy as could be. :)

Demons is a classic. :)

newb 11-02-2005 09:09 AM

I watched Land of the Dead last night. Not as bad as i expected, what with all the negative feedback its got on here.
At least George kept them slow and lumbering, and the makeup effects were very good.As far as the zombie "learning", which seemed to piss off a lot of "critics", it was subtle....its not like they were sitting around reading books or driving cars.

Heh...liked it...I'm sure no one's surprised by that :p

Anyway...The last movie I watched was Soylent Green...

....Dagon was before that...

Did you like it? Theres been alot of mixed opinions of it around here recently.

Roshomon, not really horror but a great film. I can't believe the quality of camerawork and editing for a film from 1951. Amazing.

bwind22 11-02-2005 11:10 PM

Haute (High) Tension

I absolutely LOVED the first 80% of this film! Straightforward plot, great gore, and it was quite a bit more "edge of your seat" than anything I've seen come out recently. But then, they threw in the twist (If you've seen it you know what I mean) and for me, it totally made a really good movie a whole lot shittier because the twist left gaping plot holes that were never explained.

This movie was cruising towards a solid A grade, but the stupid ending weighed it all the way down to a B-.

One of the greatest films of all time.

I had insomnia last night, and picked out a DVD at random. Alien, definitely a good way to spend a couple sleepless hours.

"The fog" (remake) 5/10

Not horrible, but NOTHING in this movie was better than the original.

Not that it surprised me the least.

bwind22 11-03-2005 10:04 PM

Henry: Portrait of Serial Killer

Okay, after hearing much hype about this movie I finally got around to checking it out.... It did not disappoint in the slightest. Brutal from the word go, this movie was just one awesome scene after another. Very well acted, lots of violence and blood, but what I liked best was just the really dark, grim feel of the movie. The last two minutes of the movies were kick ass too! Great movie! Thanks to whoever recommended it to me several months ago.

Return to Oz

How can they make a sequel to the Wizard of Oz? The Wheelers are about 505 cool and 50% annoying as hell, the special FX are starting to look pretty dated, and is it just me or did Dorothy regress in age a few years? Decently acted I suppose, but overall not a very great movie (At least not for the typical horror fan. Your kids might like it though...)

Yes, I should have watched it. A friend of ours decided to sleep through the first half and come to the festival for I Spit On Your Grave and Demons.

He said it was tacky/trashy.
But otherwise excellent.

At least I got to see From Beyond.

gorefreak 11-04-2005 05:57 AM

Saw "Monster Man" last night.... Man was that movie horrible! :( The only cool thing about it was a couple no-so-gory scenes when a guy gets run over by a monster truck and a gutted guy on the table. Even the amount of gore Fulci used in his movies couldn't save that garbage.

zomb5150 11-04-2005 07:36 AM

Just finished "Curse of the Werewolf" not bad at all.:D

taylorsmommy 11-04-2005 07:52 AM

Just went and saw "Two For the Money" with my dad.

Pretty damn good. Matthew McChaunehy (I butchered his name, I know) and Al Pacino made a hell of a team.

3/5

Toolbox Murders

I had no idea what the hell was going on, but it was okay otherwise.

VampiricClown 11-05-2005 04:19 PM

I'm about halfway through "Boo". Not sure how good it is yet though. It's not scary at all from what I've seen.

bwind22 11-05-2005 05:13 PM

The Manchurian Candidate (original)

I found this to be really slow moving and overly drawn out. The story itself would have been cool if they just didnt take so long to tell it. The acting was fine. I don't know... I wasn't 'wowed' or anything... It was okay.

Halloween: H2O

I've seen this movie several times but I don't recall if I've ever given it a writeup on here. Anyways, I watched it again today so I might as well...

I have always liked this one. I'm not sure if it's because Lori Strode is back or because Josh Hartnett (He's from St. Paul. His grandmother and my mom are co-workers so I'm always a little biased in his favor.) is in it and lives. I thought the story was cool, however there wasn't a whole lot of gore. Excluding #1 & 2, H20 is probably my favorite of the franchise.

More people should post reviews like this. I've been tempted to rent some of these and it's cool to know people's opinions on them. People that don't work for the distributor.
