They've been doing a horror marathon for like 4 days now! It's awesome except that I own 75% of what they're showing.

The_Return 10-29-2005 05:58 PM

Airplane!

Hilarious. Absolutly, positivly hilarious.

Despare 10-30-2005 12:20 AM

Repulsion - I thought it was pretty good, I liked the sense of anxiety created throughout the movie. It was slow and seemed to drag at some points but that's excusable. I wouldn't buy it but I'll watch it again, maybe on Halloween.

Adding dark humor to a horror film is Bruce Campbell's forte. Not so much in "Evil Dead", but a tad in "Evil Dead 2" and a whole lot in "Army Of Darkness".
So...just wondering if anyone has seen "tha man with the screaming brain" yet? I've got a copy sitting here (have had ot for about 2 weeks actually), truth is, I know fuck-all about it, but I'm hoping it's cool....anyone?

Last 2:

Crash - It was interesting to see different viewpoints on racial tension...I mean HERE, it's not that bad, but some of it definately hit home. Very well done film, nice musical score...leaves you feeling a little overwhelmed at times. I don't know if I really wanna see it again, because all it really did was unsettled and depressed me, but I'd reccomend it.

Eulogy - A lot funnier than I expected it to be, it was straight to video here, which had me feeling a little apprehensive, but within the first 5 minutes, I got into it.
Nice performances all around, and it was good to see Ray Romano in a slightly more adult comedy. The whole film is kind of a sad story - a death in the family, messed up family relationships...etc, but still very funny throughout.

Oliver & Company 10 / 10

ChEEbA 10-30-2005 05:07 AM

Just saw Nightwatch, I'd seen it before, well the first 15 minutes before I realised that the subtitles on my pirated version were little better than random words from the dictionary....saw the rerelease at the cinema, I'd reccomend it. Slightly convoluted plot at times, but overall a good watch. Excellent effects, and the subtitling was very cool, if you haven't yet seen it, you'll know what I mean when you do.
Visually stunning, very good musical score...unusual camera-work.
Highly reccomend seeing it on the big screen if you're able.
Looking foward to the sequel.

alkytrio666 10-30-2005 06:56 AM

Me and a buddy and my girlfriend had a little marathon.

Dagon- Had never seen this before. Very...interesting. 2.5/5

The Exorcist- The scariest movie of all time. Although, I must say, after multiple viewings it really loses a lot of shock value. 4.5/5

The Thing- This is one of my all time favorites. I love the atmosphere, and the suspense as the characters are dropped is so good. Great movie every time. 5/5

High Tension- Wow. First viewing, this movie's fucking amazing. The first death scene is soooo cool. Fucked up ending, too. 5/5

I LOVE Dagon...what didnt you like about it? VERY atmospheric, weird to the max, great gore [although CRAPPY CGI], and although I havnt read the story it's based on, it really captured a Lovecraftian feel, IMO.

I just watched The Thing myself. Deginatly a great movie, however I felt it suffered from having way to many characters. After a few deaths though, that worked itself out and it became a near flawless movie, IMO. Kurt Russel has got to be one of my favourite actors.

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 08:13 AM

......again Dagon...try to read the original and then MAYBE you change your opinon.A lot of things sucks in that movie, like Raquel Meroņo making action esceness....To my that movie is acomedy not a horror movie(to many people enter this town but no body exit.....fuck off)

RavageRitual 10-30-2005 09:27 AM

Just finished watching Candyman 3

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 09:30 AM

HOLLY SHIT!!!!

Despare 10-30-2005 09:52 AM

Saw Candyman 3 as well but only because it was on Sci-Fi & they have been doing a movie marathon. Candyman movies, Pumkinhead movies, Dagon, Prince of Darkness etc...

ChEEbA 10-30-2005 10:31 AM

Cellular.
It was ok...I like watching movies where people have to do insane things. Not great, but not bad at all, I liked it.
Maybe 6.5/10?

I havnt read Shadow Over Insmouth, but I have read Dagon. True, very few similarites there....I still think its a great movie. To each there own, opinions are like asshole, ect.:D

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 12:14 PM

.....Dagon has only 3 pages, its about a man that arrives an island where there lies a monolith with some draws of deep ones with their god Dagon...he then is attack by Dagon. Was one of the first tales of Lovercraft ( he wrotte it when he was a tennager) In what looks like Dagon (the movie)?
Please, Return you looks like you've got a good taste for horror films.....forget that stupid movie

The_Return 10-30-2005 12:54 PM

Aside from 3 things, I cant find anything wrong with the movie.

a) HORRIBLE Cgi
b) Fairly bad acting from [very few] involved
c) Almost nothing like the original story

Aside from those, it had all the fixings of a great movie. The atmosphere was fittingly eerie, at least 2 of the actors were great [Dont know their real names, but the lead guy and the crazy drunk impressed me], it had a bit of humour, but not enough to ruin it [I gotta get a bigger phone:D], the ending/opening were great in the Lovecraftian vein, and the gore, although not plentiful, was great [the face skinning made ME cringe].....But like I said, you're entitled to your opinion, as am I.

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 01:01 PM

Copy, no need more to said. The name of the drunk man was Paco Rabal.....and this was his last movie, he died after the filmation.

phantomstranger 10-30-2005 04:19 PM

Okay, now that the "Nosferatu" problem has been solved (I hope)Let's get this thread back on track, tonights Horror classics for me are:

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Pumpkinhead

and at midnight, the original (and still the best)

Halloween

alkytrio666 10-30-2005 05:18 PM

OK, this is getting a little rediculous. The Nightmare Before Christmas is NOT a classic.

The_Return 10-30-2005 05:26 PM

None of those are classics in the sence of this forum....

Equilibrium. Interesting dystopian film. The visuals in this one were outstanding, especially the gunfights. Overall: 6/10

...sound familiar...is it a Asian "Matrix" clone....or can you tell me some more....didnt feel to google or IMDb it...

Jacob Singer 10-31-2005 12:48 AM

Gabba gabba hey!! Love the piheads...and of course that movie.
Today its imposible that someone can anything like that. All is political corect.

bwind22 10-31-2005 02:11 AM

Wicker Man (again)

Well I wasnt really a fan of this film to begin with but it was on IFC the other day and my fiance hadn't seen it yet so I ended up watching it again. For some reason the weirdness of all their naked dancing and such struck me more funny than odd this time around. The only problem is that this isn't one of those films you are supposed to laugh at. The acting is good, the story is unique, but the gore is non-existent. The last 5-10 minutes are pretty awesome though...

I don't recall what grade I gave it the first time around, but I'd put it in the C+ range after a second viewing.

It is somewhat similar to the Matrix, particularly in the action scenes, but it's different enough to escape the "clone" category. It's not an Asian film though. There may be another version, but the one I saw starred Christian Bale.

Jacob Singer 10-31-2005 06:46 AM

Equilibrium? ye it is starrin by Christian Bale. It's not a great movie but if you like accion , give it a chance....awesome gunfights

slasherman 10-31-2005 01:25 PM

..ok I have seen it in the video store...the video cover is very Matrix....maybe I will give it a chance.....

Dungeon of Harrow

Well, it certainly was strange. Aside from that, I really dont know what to make of it. Pretty good I guess, a bit slow though.

noctuary 10-31-2005 09:35 PM

The Changeling. I love this movie. George C. Scott is fantastic as always, and the film itself is right up there with The Haunting as one of the great haunted house/ghost stories. Highly recommended.

You didn't get it from Netflix did ya? (If you did, send it back!) They've skipped that movie for me for the past week because I guess it must all be checked out.

Anyways...

American Werewolf in London:

Good acting, good plot, average FX, good gore. All in all this werewolf classic is deserving of it's good reputation although the creature FX are getting a bit dated. I'd definately recommend it to any fan of the werewolf sub-genre.

B+

I disagree. The whole time I was watching that, I couldn't shake the feeling of it being a cheap Matrix knock off.

Actually, it is dated as that was one of the first movies to have special effects like that without stopping the film. That has to be the top of the werewolf films. On the bottom: "The Howling" and every sequel that followed which unbelievably got progessively worse.

I saw the remake of "Amittyville". Not bad at all. It was kinda creepy for a modern movie, decent acting, and sorta creepy. Could've used more bleeding walls, scarier ghost scenes, but overall, not bad. :)

Nah, I own it. It is a great movie, so I imagine there's a high demand for it.

I do understand what you're saying about Equilibrium too. It seems that pretty much all the debate on this film centers around the "Matrix-or-not" question. I just felt that it had more similarity with works like Fahrenheit 451 or Brave New World than The Matrix.

Jacob Singer 11-01-2005 09:21 AM

I've seen an inmortal classic film, The village of the damned
Better than the J. Carpenter remake...and is hard to me to said that, 'cos I'm a great fan of Carpenter
