Rambo (2008)
Second viewing of my second favorite part in the series. This movie has some of the best violence/action I've ever seen. If only The Expendables movies were more like this... Quote:
When I first saw it I thought it was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. |

Although there wasn't really much of anything to be afraid of, I for some reason was just glued to the set. It's spoiled from the very beginning that they won't make it out of the woods alive, but when weird things start to happen you keep watching just to know why and what the hell is doing it. The ending was vague enough to make you think they may have just gone mad, but when I thought back to the stories the townspeople told, I was just 'woah shit I get it'. We've had the VHS since it was released, but it was only watched once by my dad who hated it. Kept hearing how stupid it was from him, and I knew it would be an home video documentary style (which I didn't really care for in a movie even before I got more into horror) so I never thought much about watching it. But after watching so many on Netflix and thinking maybe they weren't so bad after all, I decided to dig it out when our net was down and give it a try. I liked it more than I thought I would. |
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Liked it as much as the first one. The effects and the destruction were quite amazing. And overal I thought it was very entertaining. I hope one day they make a solid horror movie with special effects as good as those. And with an ending as strong as Seven or The Mist. That would be a dream coming true. |
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015)
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psrgkkkb04.jpg Though loved the very first one but never been really a great fan of this franchise. Particularly for the 2nd & 3rd installment, I have been quite tired of watching Ethan Hunt jumping off from a building or whatever in each & every mission & pulling off a Face-Mask at some point in the movie...the typical trademarks for MI films. The good thing is this time they kind of changed & improvised that jump stunt although couldn't get entirely rid off the face-mask thing. Still it felt good for a little change & emphasizing more on the story by keeping it a fast paced, action packed thrill ride from start to finish in a simple plotted espionage tale. But the best thing about ROGUE NATION is the addition of Rebecca Ferguson as the undercover British agent Ilsa Faust. She shines in almost every frame & at times even overshadows Cruise on the screen. >>: B+ Unconscious aka Amnesiac (2015) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psxzh04mb0.jpg One of the dullest thrillers ever made! >>: D |

Entourage (2015)
If you like the series, this movie is quite good. Did expect it to be funnier though. |
12 Years A Slave 2015
My initial reactions were that the slave owner and slave dynamic was too easy, that nothing is that simple. But then I'm thinking, no it really was that fucked up. So it is that easy, that simple to write/direct the dynamic. The main actor, forgetting his name, was really really good. So was Benedict Cumberbatch(surprised I remember his name) and the second slave owner the main character was transferred to. The actor playing Patsy was meh, except when her character was being whipped and then raped. She was excellent. The same sort of bad acting occurred with the actress who played the second slave owner's wife. Both of these actors at times were stiff, like they were giving soliloquies in a theater and not in a movie with people around them. And then there's Brad Pitt's character. OF COURSE Brad Pitt plays a character like that, and badly. Not to imply he is or not is a bad actor. I did not know it was originally a book, wish I had. I would've read it first. 7/10 |
Any of you guys find it odd to post about movies that you watch that aren't horror movies? This is a horror forum.

I like when people occasionally post non-horror movies here because I get to see what other genres people like or dislike.

If this topic would be limited to only horror titles there would be even less traffic here.

Trespassing (Evil Remains on Netflix)
I made a review rant thing and posted here http://www.horror.com/forum/showthre...d=1#post999560 Quote:

It almost implies that it's the last seen contemporary horror movie. I think the other seen movies would be better suited to an off topic section where recently seen non-horror movies could go. I've seen that sort of topic on other forums. Quote:
It's strange that old and new horror seen horror movies are separated and not recent blockbuster or other type movies. Quote:

I think it would be an improvement if several sections were merged.
One section for horror movies with a couple of sticky topics like: -Last seen recent horror movie. -Last seen classic horror movie -Last seen vintage horror movie -Last seen non-horror movie |
Damn why is it a big deal?

...Moving on.
- Mexican Werewolf in Texas I posted about it here http://www.horror.com/forum/showthre...582#post999582 |
SOUND CITY (2013). Really good doc about the studio where a LOT of classic albums were recorded that eventually closed. Main focus of the film is Dave Grohl buying the soundboard and using it to record. ****

Wolves
not a bad watch.....could have been better if it had more balls. Think they were trying to go a bit for the "Twilight" crowd. Jason Momoa did make a bad ass were-wolf http://i2.wp.com/www.cgmeetup.net/ho...resize=960,516 |

I thought the ending was actually pretty clever. It wasn't very well filmed, but I liked what it was going for. A big theme throughout the movie was that the media shows people what they want to hear and distort the facts. What I got from the ending is that the entire documentary was "distorting the facts", and the final scene where it was traditional cinematography, those were the real events. |

Hmm, pretty valid insight. I totally agree with the media distortion theme, along with what I felt was a message about blind trust and naiveté in general. It all went hand in hand and had me involved from the beginning. As for the ending, it more or less worked for me, but not as well as I would have hoped. It felt like such a sudden shift in gears that I think it could have been handled better, or even in a totally different way. The two styles of filming just seemed to clash. Have you ever been skateboarding on smooth asphalt, and then rode onto a patch of grass and suddenly stopped? That's as close an analogy as I can come up with. It was like two different surfaces and the suddenness slowed things down for me. |

Sinister 2 (2015)
7/10 A well-executed and disturbing sequel. People were screaming and gasping in the theater. One person had to leave for a good ten minutes. This franchise has struck gold with the home movies motif. Long live Buhguul!!!!!!!! http://orig13.deviantart.net/1408/f/...lz-d5xyj09.png |

Try The Devil's Pass aka The Dyatlov Pass Incident (2013) and Blutgletscher aka Blood Glacier (2013). And Black Mountain Side still has to come out. |
