Boy my day went great in terms of sports...

I thruoughly enjoed the Vikings looking like a regular football team and remaining competitive an entire game but for them to pull it out in semi-dramatic fashion... Well, geez. What more could I hope for...

Oh yeah, this. I flipped the channel after the Vikes won to watch the Twins fend off a late rally by Oakland to gain another .5 game on Detroit for the division & cushion their lead on the White Sox & the wildcard race by .5 game as well.

THEN, as if that wasn't enough... I get to work and hop online only to find out I won 3 out of 4 online fantasy football leagues this week! (They all came down to Monday night too.)

Everything's comin up bwind. :D

bwind22 09-12-2006 12:35 AM

Man, that game must have been painful for you. What are you guys gonna do with Brooks? What a bum! And Jordan couldn't get anything going either...

It was, especially since I took a vacation day so I could stay up and endure it. I'm not sure I can say a whole lot bad about Brooks right now. They might as well just sit the offensive line and just make the D count to 3 Mississippi before they can sack him. 9 sacks in one game, that's just miserable. Truthfully, I've been watching the Raiders since I was 5, and aside from the whole 51-3 beating we took against Buffalo in the AFC championship game one year, I don't think I ever recall seeing my team play so bad.

Of course, I'll stand up and take my medicine because I was giving shit to Packers & Bucs fans all day yesterday. It is, however, a miserable time to be a Raiders fan.

bwind22 09-12-2006 08:19 AM

If it's any consolation, I think Green Bay is worse than Oakland this year.

Roderick Usher 09-12-2006 08:24 AM

yo Bwind

As a diehard 'Skins fan, last night was painful as hell, but I gotta say Brad Johnson looked great. He's probably the best damage-control QB in the league.

That just means we won't get to draft Brady Quinn:mad: :p

Seriously, I did start to see some good signs on Defence, but our Oline is just awful. I mean, Brooks is a scrambling quarterback and he was still getting killed. They would have made mince meat out of Collins if he was still here.

I didn't want to say anything until I really saw it in action, but Tom Walsh's playcalling looked terrible. Why the hell would you call plays needing 7-10 step drops when your Oline is looking that bad? The few times they threw quick outs to Moss, it worked. Then they just quit and started trying for the long ball again.

They wont have the first pick but the Packers wouldn't draft Quinn anyway(Aaron Rogers).

I don't have the slightest idea why the guy can't keep a job, sure he's getting old but who cares, he's still good that's what matters. He's one of only 5 active QBs with a ring, guess that doesn't count for anything.

Zero 09-12-2006 04:14 PM

i'm just sorry my cowboys lost - they looked so good in the first quarter and then just fell apart. . . i'd say 'bad coaching' but the TUNA is as good as it gets - let's just hope it gets better as the season goes on

AUSTIN316426808 09-12-2006 04:19 PM

It was just two good, tough teams playing well and somebody had to lose. I wouldn't worry about 'em.

i'd heard JAX was predictec to go pretty far this season. . . that's the thing i hate about football (and really hate about college football) - it seems as if just a few losses and your season is over. . . i guess that's why i'm increasingly a baseball fan

I think it makes the NFL better, true it'll blow a bit when your team(s) are left out but overall the competitiveness makes for good games all season.

The playoffless college system on the other hand is brutal for fans because first and foremost, a run of the mill season has about 8-10 national championship contenders which takes out 100 teams before the first kickoff, and another 10 unless a few unlikely scenerios take place.

I guess it would be easier for fans of the other 3 sports, you've got 80+ games during which, at the very least, you've got hope for about a month or two. With football you can pretty much tell within 2 games if you're team's gonna be crap.

Bears vs Lions this weekend, and the Lions are ALREADY talking smack. They say they're coming into Soldier Field and beating us, GUARANTEED!

You're taking on the best defense in OUR house and guaranteeing a win? With Kitna behind the wheel? Oof...

BH14 09-13-2006 03:27 PM

Roy Williams just needs to shut up and make some catches. Did you hear how he said that the Lions were so close to breaking out 40 pts when they only scored 6 pts in week 1? Only 34 pt difference.

AUSTIN316426808 09-13-2006 03:32 PM

I went and saw my team Collingwood lose an elimination final in the AFL (australian football league) on Sunday, I was one of 84,284 people there! it realy sucked!

AUSTIN316426808 09-14-2006 11:26 AM

Try going through it with 73k 5 times a year for 15 years.

Disease 09-14-2006 11:29 AM

I've had Saints(NFL/American football) season tickets literally my whole life and out of those 8 home games they tend to lose about 5 on average.

Disease 09-14-2006 11:55 AM

thats nothing towards the dissapointment a collingwood supporter knows! sorry but it's not, We had won the most grand finals up to 1958 then gradually got taken over, we are now behind two clubs but since 58 we have lost around 15 or more and only won one, also we had every one in the country barracking for the other team on sunday. we are the most hated because we were once so good. we also hold the record for premiships in a row. 4 .

AUSTIN316426808 09-14-2006 12:08 PM

Wait a minute, you're complaining because it's been a long time since they were dominate and you're losing championship games?

I'm talking about a team that started off with 29 straight losing seasons. A team that's only been to the playoffs 5 times and has only won 1 playoff game in it's entire exsistence. The Saints haven't even gotten close enough to sniff a championship.

Nobody's going to win it all every year, your guys have a great history and now they aren't as great as they used to be but still have good seaons and make it to championships. They win some they lose some. The Saints have just flat out sucked for 50 years, you can't even begin to compare that.

Disease 09-14-2006 12:20 PM

well in my life time, we lost I think 2 out of the first three year I was alive then never won another till 1990, lost backtoback2002-3, but I have listende to and watched so many games, and we have lost by 6 points or less in so many games since ive been alive, and let me tell you loseing finals is a hell of a lot worse than not makeing them!

Disease 09-14-2006 12:28 PM

allso everyone who doesn"t follow collingwood hates them, that makes it more harsh, and important to win especially when you are robbe of a grand final victory by bad umpireing.

AUSTIN316426808 09-14-2006 12:40 PM

I think you're missing my main point. Your team plays great and has a shot at the title every year.

My team has played great twice, that's it, just 2 seasons they played great and a handful of seasons they've been competitive. Other than that, which I'm sure you'll agree isn't much, they've sucked.

You said they have the record, 4 straight, for championships in a row. We've got the record, in the area of 30, for losing seasons in a row.

Now honestly, from those basic points, what team would you rather have? Or more appropriately for the discussion, which would you rather not have to deal with?

Disease 09-14-2006 12:45 PM

still when you have lost more than 30 grand finals, I could do with ou that!

AUSTIN316426808 09-14-2006 01:01 PM

I'm assuming you're talking about soccer and American football, correct?

Disease 09-14-2006 01:17 PM

No., Australian Rules the greatest game of all! Have you never seen it?

I might've and not realized, but most likely I haven't. It's probably not broadcasted here.

Is it American football with different rules or is it rugby-ish?

And to clear up that typo, American football is the greatest game of all.:D

I keep telling myself that, Austin, yet the pain does not ease.

Oh well, RAIDER ON (to last place, most likely)

Disease 09-14-2006 02:09 PM

no, austrlian rules started in the late 18 hundreds, it is a game all of it's own, no body protectors , full contact, and high scoreing, it is the greatest. But one of our forwards, Saverio Roccer is maybe going to play for the Buffalo Bills, watch out for him, next season. You know who ben graham is don't you
