Too serious for a movie about giant wasps.

TRIPLE DOG 2010

A group of girls play a game of "triple dog" daring each other at a slumber party and things get out of hand!!

But not really and I sort of fell for a review. But I kept watching it anyway.

Pretty cool film. Wahlberg is looking older but still a cutie. John Goodman was fabulous per usual.

Hold Your Breath
If ever I see someone with a missing eye, I simply must ask them if it hurt like a BITCH to lose. Compared to a scene in WolfCop and this movie, it's apparently practically painless.
Anyway. Classic B movie quality. Piss poor, cheep effects, terrible decision making by the characters, and lousy acting. I really have no idea why I even finished it.

LOL

Say, did getting stung by the wasps make the humans act strangely? Or did they pretty much just die?

1 DEAD PARTY 2013

A man accidentally kills his wife right before a party at their house. This is sort of a dark comedy and shows how he deals with the guests (who are all her friends) and his feelings of guilt as the party progresses.

Had a few good laughs and I kinda felt bad for the guy..it just went from bad to worse for him. I liked it.

I would try it. From what you tell of it it reminds me of Arsenic and Old Lace, one of my favorite movies. ::smile::

The Haunting of Whaley House
Not bad. Or at least I've seen much worse. The ghost effects and story were fairly good. Then of course the characters start making stupid decisions and then the predictable death rate. I don't think the ending knew where it was going. It had an attention grabbing idea about crossing a dead family over to the other side in the beginning, and then the just forgot about that plot point. Seriously, what a disappointment. And why does the music sound like it should be from an 80's horror film like Fright Night or something.

TheBossInTheWall 07-07-2015 07:40 PM

P 2009

Thai horror black magic flic. Weak story, weak gore, all the aspects of the story are glossed over. The only thing good was the acting, but with a bad script it doesn't make the movie worth it. I only finished it for the novelty of hearing the language coupled with the way people moved their bodies/faces.

Shark Week
*Notices before watching* Oooooh yaaaaay another film from The Asylum. I hope they don't loose the plot this time. Can't even get real shark footage. Aren't we off to a godawful start.
The story itself isn't too bad. Classic vengeance tale with sharks as a weapon. And stupid as shit characters through bad acting of course. The effects though. Good lord why do we encourage these shit effect films.

Scary Movie
I quite enjoy it. Certainly better than the sequels. or at least most of the sequels

Munger Road
I liked it. The build up was good, nice and suspenseful despite a bit of a slow start. They didn't reveal the killer. Didn't show his face. Just bits and pieces and just let the suspense and stories told by the more experienced officer build up the fear of him rather than depending on the face of a demented killer or anything physical. I wanted to complain how it ended. It was predictable (some of the things he did is just not possible when still alive), but then it ended up being 'to be continued'. Soooo I guess save the rest of my judgement for after a possible part two? I don't know. I would probably watch it again at some point. And it had the guy from xmen in it who turned to a goo mutant (he was the before mentioned cop) so that was interesting.

Killer Instinct
Getting soooooo tired of movies trying to freak me out with snakes that aren't even venomous. Milk snakes are very different from corals thank you. That aside I'm a little confused on how to rate this. It's like they took two movies and tried to put them together. I mean how mood killing is it to go from one scene killing off a kid in a tub of boiling water to cut to another scene with two people having a talk in a diner. The strong female characters were refreshing though. About all I can say for it. The ending was predictable-ish. I'm surprised only one out of towner was the only one to notice the connection between the victims.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown
I liked it enough. But seriously, what is it with characters making dumb as fuck decisions. And I don't think we ever find out for sure who the original killer was? Even so I recommend a watch.

The Gallows (2015)

Unsurprisingly, this movie has gotten a lot of hate around the internet. With a 4.7 on IMDb based on only 164 ratings, a 16% on rotten tomatoes and a 31 on metacritic, you'd expect this to be a complete disaster. Fortunately, The Gallows is a surprisingly intense and effective little found footage flick that has a few good scares up its sleeve. The Gallows is a supernatural found footage film about a group of teenagers who break into their school the night before a play, appropriately titled "The Gallows", so that the show can't go on. However, 20 years earlier, a freak accident happened during the same play that resulted in the death of Charlie Grimelle, the star of the show. For the most part, this film is rather tight and controlled. Clocking in at a criminally short 81 minutes, this does allow the movie to move at a pretty brisk pace, but a few scenes do feel rather rushed. Some of the scares do fall flat because of this and go for a jump scare that would have been much more effective if there wasn't a "big whoosh sound". Other than those few scenes, there are quite a few well-timed jump scares and a lot of incredibly intense and scary scenes that, luckily, don't end on a dramatic jump scare. Watching the four characters roaming the dark, empty corridors of their school is rather unnerving, especially when they find hidden rooms underneath the school. The sound also makes this movie very atmospheric and unsettling. The Gallows isn't without its glaring problems. This movie definitely won't win any awards in the originality department, and the acting (something I usually never mention) is largely uneven from a couple of the cast members, but the worst thing about The Gallows is the atrocity that is the ending. I don't want to spoil anything, but the big plot twist at the end was insanely predictable and cheesy. It was almost as if the filmmakers couldn't come up with a decent way to end the movie, so they just wrapped it up with some lame plot twist that makes no sense at all. That might have been why this was only 81 minutes. The worst thing about the ending is that it actually created more questions than it answered, which really frustrated my friend and me. Despite the absolutely awful ending, The Gallows does not deserve the scorn it's been getting on the Internet. It's a very intense and sometimes scary movie, and it's definitely a movie you'll want to watch in the theater.

Agree with Marlon, this is not a perfect film but at times it was quite promising. Even when they moved into that 'cabin', somewhat reminded me of The Evil Dead for a moment. The build up was fine but the ending comes with the major disappointment.

It reminded me of Evil Dead too. Weird house/cabin in the middle of the woods and no way to leave. Blair Witch Project also came to mind.
Acting and casting was also better than average for this sort of movie.
Too bad the script was a bit of a mess because the movie had plenty of potential.

Re-Cycle 2006

After writing three best-sellers about love story based on her own experiences, the successful writer Tsui Ting-Yin is without inspiration and having difficulties to write her new novel in the horror genre entitled "Re-cycle". While drafting the text, spooky events happen at her apartment and her former boy-friend of eight years ago visits her, after his divorce, proposing Tsui. When Tsui sees a supernatural long-haired character of her book, she follows him and is trapped in his world of terror. But she is saved by the young Ting-yu, who discloses a secret about her to Tsui

Dull. After 30 minutes of very little happening I turned it off. If you can make it further than I did it might be good.

"Men & chicken" 8/10

A new danish masterpice has been made by the very talented and steady writer (Brothers, The Salvation) Anders Thomas Jensen .

This is a kinda slow moving comedy/drama/mystery that is very well directed with quite a lot of laughs, and the comey is definiety the strong point as it's not your typical light humor. On top of that it has an obscure story you difinitely haven't seen beffore.

Watch it if you don't mind subtitles.

Oh yea, especially hillarious is the performance of Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), so if you're a fan of him give it a shot. :)

Session 9 (2001)

I found a list of "best ghost movies," and now I'm set for like the rest of the month. This ended up on that list, and while it's not exclusively a supernatural flick, I wasn't disappointed. Session 9 follows an absestos cleaning crew as they work inside an abandoned mental hospital. One of the characters, Mike, finds a collection of old tapes that chronicle sessions of Mary Hobbes, who has disassociative identity disorder. Each of her "personalities" mention a man named "Simon," who may be linked to a suppressed memory that Mary has. Session 9 is a slow-burner; it builds up a dense atmosphere and sense of dread until the final act becomes exceptionally creepy and intense. It's much more unsettling than outright scary, and that's the perfect mood for this type of movie. The tapes that Mike listens to are increasingly unnerving and create a lot of suspense as to who exactly "Simon" is. When "Simon" finally speaks in the 9th session, it's incredibly scary and memorable. Along with an extremely talented cast, beautiful cinematography and an ambiguous ending that could create hours of discussion, Session 9 is a very creepy and atmospheric psychological horror film.

The trailer makes it look fairly bad. Is it misleading?

TheBossInTheWall 07-10-2015 08:13 PM

It Follows

I liked it. Entertaining, paced well, acting was decent enough. I mean there wasn't any fantastic dialogue or need for fantastic expression and poise of some sort besides the main actress. She did a decent job, not great, but not bad. I didn't get bored and the time went by fast. What I found a bit amusing was that everyone was dressed as if it was the 80's in the suburbs of NJ and the more run down house/rural parts of the movie reminds me of parts of southern NJ. And the abandoned warehouses reminded me of the outskirts of Trenton years ago. But I don't think it was filmed there. I'd recommend it.
6/10

More thoughts, SPOILERS TO FOLLOW:

What I really liked was that they did not spend a long time with the character trying to make people believe her and no one doing so. Her friends/sisters quickly supported her and when It attacks her friends/sisters witness the physically visible parts of the attack. The sheet thrown over It was a great. I'm so tired of movies where nobody believes the main character and they either die because they do not believe or the character has to run somewhere else to find someone who won't believe the character. So that made me happy.
