Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psdsnpzpyv.jpg

It started slowly. Jump scares were occasional, there was no rush for it. Writer Leigh Whannell in his directorial debut, kept it simple with finely constructed narrative. But the best part was the way he carefully injected emotional & moving contents into some of the characters & their dialogs about losing & missing the loved ones. But I thought Dermot Mulroney's character as the father of 2 young children deserved little more attention in that area particularly. Overall, pretty good; decently creepy & entertaining. The best in the series, IMO; as I'm not a big fan of the earlier 2 'chapters'.

I actually liked this movie though I had doubts for the longest time about even attempting to watch the first. This one went a step further in the 'extreme cinema' direction, but not to the point that I refused to watch it. Overall, I enjoyed it.

I wasn't entirely impressed with this one, but that could just be my overly picky nature when it comes to horror movies and whether I think they should be defined as a horror movie or not.

::confused::

If not horror, what would you call it then? Drama?

A dark fairytale that's got too much of an adolescent audience in mind. I'm speaking about, so as not to spoil, where the two characters go. That part is bordering on silly and lazy directing.

Repo'd 06-30-2015 03:20 PM

Yeah , I'm with the Boss. I didn't care at all for that particular turn. I felt a little cheated, considering how much I enjoyed it up until that point.

Am I the only one that thought the last 30 minutes was the best part?

Roiffalo 06-30-2015 05:39 PM

Insidious is better after you watch the second one. At least in my opinion ^^;
It closes some loose ends and throws in a bit of murder mystery. I thought it was entertaining. Not ''scary'' per-say, but enjoyable.

I'm also a fan of Olaf Ittenbach films. I've seen his House of Blood, Burning Moon, Dard Divorce, Beyond the Limits and No Reason...more of less liked them all, particularly House of Blood & No Reason are my favorites. But yeah, GOL somehow failed to impress me this time. Mostly because of the plot I guess; though gore was as usually great & over the top.::smile::

Truth or Die
Good... Really good... It can't be just defined as a horror. It was a thriller, it had suspense, a mystery, even some drama. The characters played off each other very well, each horror cliche pretty much thrown to the wind to make a unique story. I much liked it. Good twists, very heartfelt, but still some sick parts to keep those with more gore in mind entertained. Not to mention plenty of British accents. ::smile::

Cassadaga 2011

I was able to finish the film so it gets 4/10. Very very predictable. Lots of needless use of characters and audience deception/misdirection. I had it figured out about 1/4th the way through. The only good part of the film was the main actress. She played the character perfectly. I believed everything she did. If you have nothing else to do and you don't feel like watching anything better, go ahead and watch. For me it was very disappointing.

Late Phases
-
I guess they felt there was no need to make any build up to the werewolf reveal. Lame. And halfway through they reveal WHO the werewolf is too. And Tina Louise was in it too ugh, honey, no you're better than this. ...Took an interesting turn towards the end though, and the characters and wolf were a lot better than they were in The Feeding. Can't say I hated it, but I've certainly seen better. The transformation at least was very entertaining. You do get a better view of the werewolves during the final battle, and they were just precious little hell spawn. And then the movie ends on such an emotional note you forget it was a werewolf movie you watched... As cheesy as it was you wouldn't think it would be that easy to forget either.

Insidious: Chapter 3
6/10 - Better than chapter 2 but not as good as the first one.

Gone Girl
8.5/10 - I'd been putting this off for ages because I didn't think it would be my cup of tea but I actually loved it. The first half was a bit boring but once the story picked up it got really good and interesting.

Poltergeist 3D
5.5/10 - I liked it but it could have been scarier, it really wasn't scary at all.

It Follows
4/10 - Read so many great reviews about this film so I was expecting it to be really good but tbh I didn't like it ::sad::

Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death
1/10 - I almost fell asleep, it was terrible.

SEVERED : FOREST OF THE DEAD 2005

Zombies run rampant in a forest inhabited by tree huggers and lumberjacks.

This movie just seemed to go on without any story or clear resolution. Lacked any lustre. I caught myself wondering why I was watching it. ::sad::

Zombies with treehuggers and lumberjacks? This sounds like it should've been so bad it's good.

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid
A story that actually makes sense. Didn't think that could happen with larger than average snakes. Good movie though. Good bit of CGI in it but it was balanced enough to not bother me. I'm surprised the annoying characters made it so far into the film. And points for a female character not being useless! Only thing I can really think to complain of is... why did the snake explode? I don't believe gasoline causes explosions... Well it was one of those action thriller types, so I s'pose an explosion had to be in there somewhere.

CURSED 2005

A brother and sister are both bitten by a werewolf while trying to rescue a girl from a car wreck. Its a horror-comedy and not too bad ( there's some funny parts at the brother's school) but maybe a little lame.

This movie deserves more credit than it's usually given. True to the films title, it's believed the production of the movie was cursed itself. After filming a good portion of effects with the werewolf, footage was lost. With not enough budget to film the shots over, we're stuck with what we got. The movie most likely would've been a bigger hit than it was had it not been sadly changed.

Well, I know at one point, there was a dream sequence that had shots that made no sense. Now I see why after reading up on it.

The Objective 2009

A small group of soldiers in Afghanistan under orders to follow/escort a CIA agent in search of a cleric named Mohammad Bhan. This is not a 'military' movie. Strange things happen, etc.
Its well acted and very well shot. The characters were too two-dimensional though. Not the fault of the actors, but the script. The story is good, one or two things were not explained enough for me. There is a lot that is not explained, but that is part of the enjoyment of the film. Wondering what things mean, what they are, etc. Its not a what's real what's not film. The ending is very good. You want to see more/know more about the story. A sequal should have been done. Also quite a few special effects were very simply made and pulled off well. Not sure how much effort went into others.

Ah, it wasn't a bad movie, some witty dialog between the sister, lawyer and Ben Afflack. I enjoyed those scenes. Two things;

1. What a raging psychopath.

2. I want Doogie Howser's Lake House.

Spoiler below but I'm sure everyone has seen this

Yeah this Amy chick was mentally unbalanced but no one plays the psycho bitch better than Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction.
