It Follows (2014)
5/10 Overrated. I don't get why movies like this one and The Babadook get so much praise. Sure they look good but the scripts are weak. "But you gotta use your imagination..." Fuck that and explain some stuff, you lazy sods. |
Saw Poltergeist.
There was nothing wrong with it that isn't wrong with just about every movie these days. Production quality was good (except the CGI! God, it was ps2 Silent Hill quality). Could have been written a little better, but I'm usually picky in that area. It was acted pretty well I guess, but again it could've been better. BUT! The Gallows. Saw this trailer when I saw Poltergeist today. This looks like it could be one of the best movies I've ever seen. |
Let Us Prey (2014)
A mysterious stranger (Game Of Thrones smuggler/pirate dude) ends up in police station and things start to happen. Cool British flick. Not great but quite alright and entertaining enough. Some action, right amount of blood, bit of gore and a slice of insanity. A bit vague but it wasn't bothering. |

Hot Girls Wanted
The documentary follows 4 girls, one more than the rest, as they start in the porn industry at 18/19 years old. I'm not sure how I feel about the film. Not the subject matter, but the presentation. It was too small of a sample to be definitive and it wasn't focused enough on the affect, or lack of affect, being amature porn actresses had on them. I guess I felt it was too much the surface and not more of the reality. Still for most people my guess is its a bit shocking. I don't expect it to be easy to be an amateur, and I wouldn't assume it to by anything. Just this doc doesn't show enough or focus enough to express any sentiment strongly enough. |
I'll post my thoughts on Insidious: Chapter 3 later tomorrow, but spoiler alert: it was fucking scary.

The Redwood Massacre (2014)
Average slasher that had a lot of potential but ruined by the weak script and low budget. The Scottish woods and old houses looked great though. They should make more movies in the British country side. Leprechaun Origins was shite but the locations were good. We Are Still Here (2015) "Couple who lost their son moves into an old house and stuff happens." Hard to talk about this one without spoiling anything. But the movie has a really good pace, it's not boring and the length is about 80 minutes so see for yourself. |

A pretty good haunted house flick with decent acting, nice looking ghosts and some good scares. Cheap scares yes, but effective. My only problem with it was the camera work in the beginning which seemed really amateurish. But it got better. |
I watched this a few days ago but forgot to write about it.
Case 39 A surprisingly fun and entertaining supernatural thriller. While it's not scary in the slightest, Case 39 does put a unique twist on the killer child trope. 6/10 |

Run All Night (2015)
Just another Liam Neeson flick. I wasn't impressed and I thought it was 20-30 minutes too long. And what's the deal of starting a movie by showing the (near) ending? "Hey, here you can see what happens towards the end of the movie, where it happens and who'll still be around at that time. Now let's go back in time and actually start the movie." The Asylum aka Backmask aka Exeter (2015) "A group of youths mess around in old asylum and stuff starts to happen." Entertaining possession flick with some bloody action. Worth a watch. |

Would You Rather (2013)
I watched this on the recommendation of a friend. It's a very simple movie; there's not much of a story. Would You Rather is about a group of people who are invited to a dinner party with the promise that one of them will win a sum of money if he or she wins a game. Obviously because this is a movie, this game of would you rather isn't going to be your average parlor game. What the contestants have to choose between is life-threatening, and only one person is going to get out alive. Since there's virtually no plot to the movie, it does feel like you're watching one fucked up YouTube challenge at times, but what saves this movie from being completely unbearable is the twists that the host puts on the game. It does make the film rather unpredictable and incredibly intense. Many scenes had me cringing because of the grisly nature of some of the dilemmas. There are a few glaring issues with the entire premise; it is mentioned that this game is played yearly, so why didn't one of the winners call the cops after finishing the game? I mean you were held hostage for a night while you were practically tortured, and seven people ended up dead. I wouldn't call this a particularly enjoyable film, but if you just want a crazy and intense little movie, Would You Rather is a decent choice. 5/10 |

The Others (2001)
I decided to watch The Others again, which I watched back in December, so that I can see what all the praise is about. Whenever the critics give a horror film great reviews like this movie received, I typically agree with them. I thought that now that I've seen movies like Repulsion and The Innocents that I could better appreciate what The Others tried replicate. While I love how it tried to go ultra-retro, the problem with The Others isn't that it isn't scary. There are many scenes that were very well executed. It's the fact that after a certain scary scene, the movie would just stop dead in its tracks. There were be a couple of minutes where the tension is rising and the atmosphere is layered on, but after the scene is over, it goes back to being extremely slow and boring. I'm fine if there is a scary scene and then the movie slows down a little bit, but The Others slows down to an absolute crawl, which was probably because it didn't seem like Grace was really interested or scared by the "ghosts". What made movies like Paranormal Activity or The Babadook so effective is that you could feel the characters' fear throughout the entire film. I didn't get that from Grace at all. 4/10 What sucks even more is that I really want to like this movie because I loved The Innocents and Repulsion, and it seems like this is another movie I'd love, but I simply can't force myself to like a movie. |

God I feel like I should love The Others. It's like the perfect movie for me, yet for some reason I don't like it. I'm on the hunt for why everyone thinks it's such a masterpiece.

Jupiter Ascending
5/10 I liked some of the special effects but other than that, I was completely bored with it. Seventh Son 8/10 A lot of fun, I am a big fan of Jeff Bridges, The Loft 8/10 Good, twisted thriller. The cast was awesome. |

Saw "Spy" today. Very funny movie. Who knew Jason Statham could be funny?! Highly recommended, all actors did a great job with their roles.

The Ring Two (2005)
It took me too long to finally get around to watching this. Being such a huge fan of the original, and hearing dreadful things about the sequel, my expectations were rather low. While it's nothing exceptional, The Ring Two is a moderately creepy sequel, even if it does seem like a departure from the original's themes. In The Ring Two, Rachel and her son, Aidan, have moved away to Oregon to get away from the terrifying events that occured in Seattle, but Samara has followed them and plans on taking Aidan's life for her own. Something you'll notice from the very first scene is how much different this movie is to its predecessor. Where The Ring used the seven-day time limit to create tension and simple, yet haunting visuals to scare its audience, The Ring Two seems to focus more on big, flashy special effects to overwhelm the viewer. That becomes a huge distraction throughout the entire film, as the CGI looks cheesy and outdated today. This tone of the movie also seems very unfocused. The tone meanders throughout the entire film, going from your average ghost flick to a mystery-thriller like the original to a sort of evil child movie. That's not to say it isn't engaging; The Ring Two is, for the most part, rather entertaining, and it never tries, fortunately, it never tries to be too "intelligent", and then end up being convoluted and confusing. The plot itself is very tight and controlled. It's just tonally inconsistent. I also want to mention the incredible score. It's seriously one of the best and most memorable scores to any horror film in recent memory, and it really adds to the creepy atmosphere of the movie. The Ring Two is certainly not a remarkable film, but it is an entertaining and creepy little supernatural thriller. 6/10 |
Insidious 3 is coming to theaters here soon, and I still have yet to get my horror fix in theaters. I've never seen the first two chapters, so I'm knocking those off my list now. Off work tonight so good a time as any.
Insidious Very Poltergeist, but I enjoyed it. I'm going to have to fan art that demon. Fucking sinister I loved it. They sure do insist on a lot of loud noises to scare their audience. Can't say I support that as a scare technique in horror, but the movie was good at building suspense, so that made it easy to sit through. Insidious: Chapter 2 Oh lord more shrieking. we get it, title, you're a horror movie, move along. Seriously, the noises. Just no. But that aside, it was an excellent continuation of the first. Ended the story and opened way for another just perfectly. I can't decide which is better because like the first three Fri13ths, they're parts. I feel they should be counted as one. But I do look forward to seeing 3 now. Jurassic Park I don't think a review is necessary. I'm getting ready for Jurassic World. 8) |

Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrells is his debut movie. Snatch his second. They're both great. Solid casting and acting, fun characters and lots of dry humour. Mean Machine is a remake of The Longest Yard (1974), about a pro footballer ending up in jail, coaching and playing with inmates for a game against the guards. Lovely movie. Statham's part isn't that big in this movie but it's hilarious. Crank 1 and 2 are probably my favorite Statham movies. They're so over the top and fun. Jason plays a hitman who's been poisoned and has to keep up his adrenaline level or else he'll die. It's a total blast! |
Personally out of that lot, I'd only really recommend Lock Stock and the first Crank.
Started watching "Killing the Softly" tonight, seems alright. Interrupted by baby, as per most movies I watch these days...so many left partially watched... |

The Tracey Fragments
Basically its a film shot with various screens displayed on a single screen, changing size and length/width. They show different parts of a scene or connections to the current scene. It could have been interesting, but the story's dull. A small breasted girl(this is something referenced a lot in the film) in highschool with awful parents who likes the new boy. She's told to see a psychiatrist, but she's not crazy. Blah blah blah. Couldn't finish it. 3/10 |
