I agree. Not bad, not exactly groundbreaking, but enjoyable

Most recent:
Ring Two. Better than i expected. I liked it in spite of myself (cant hold a candle to the first one, though)

Then, i saw the greatest action film to be made this century:
Equilibrium

Newb had been extolling it's virtues for forever here, and i finally got to see it. Not a single exagerration has been made about it. I love the matrix movies, but this one slaughtered all three of them by itself.

Look who's back from the dead....

Did ya like it?

I thought it was great

Angra 08-26-2005 04:52 AM

I think Equilibrium is sooo overrated in here.

Might be better than Matrix3 though.;)

By the way, nice to see you back Voddy.:)

EXTR3MIST 08-26-2005 08:35 AM

Basic Instinct.

Superb - some smashing gore, including the icepick-thru-the-nose bit at the start which I believe was cut from the USA release.

Rob Bottin's rubber and latex effects are still the best around.

Equilibrium

Darkling 08-26-2005 02:11 PM

Bought Saw and Dawn of the Dead Directors cut recently - Both are good, but Saw is an awesome film, really enjoyed it.

Yellow Jacket 08-26-2005 05:48 PM

Red Eye

Surprisingly very good! Definitley wipes the bad taste of Cursed out of my mouth.

Carrie [Original]

It was OK, but not as good as I had heard. Worth seeing though.

You know, I have never had the slightest desire to see that movie. Not sure why.

Anyway, I am watching Strange Days now. Excellent film.

ChEEbA 08-26-2005 10:46 PM

You should see "Shattered" instead.

Hey, I just looked this one up. It looks interesting, thanks for the recommendation.

Angra 08-27-2005 01:48 AM

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" 7/10

Not one of Burtonīs best, but at LEAST as good as the original.
I liked how Burton made the Willy Wonka character a little deeper by digging up his childhood to explain his weird personality. The original didnīt.
But the absolute best in this movie (And iīm sure alot of adults will agree) was Deppīs performance as the super eccentric Willy Wonka wich, of course, was absolutely outstanding. Though i have to say that Gene Wilders performance as a more insane Willy, in the original, was just as impressive.

The children (Including the main character) and parents in both versions was equally annoying. And a thing that buged me a little was the parents lack of effort to help their own children. That was just so unnatural.

But itīs always facinating to see Burtonīs fairytale universe.

Angra 08-27-2005 04:50 AM

"Valiant" 5/10

Well made but not very good.

You don't know what you're missing - the ending, for starters, is awesome...

EXTR3MIST 08-27-2005 06:51 AM

Basic Instinct - the final scene really fucks with the audience, helped along no end by Jerry Goldsmith's evocative score.

Actually, the main character (Dennis Christopher from Stephen King's 'IT', Necronomicon, Doppelganger, Chariots Of Fire, etctera...) is obsessed with 'film-noir' and classic horror movies...When his own life spirals out of control, he assumes the roles of the lives of the characters that he loves in order to carry out his goals...Goals that are based on revenge and his sense of justice...
